I think it a GMC/ Chevy trait. All the GM work trucks we have had did that. First fuel pump was pretty good, after they have burned the first one up, it is an every six months ordeal. I wouldnt take a GM truck if you gave it to me after all the problems we have had with them here in the ranch.

That's cheap for a part that i hope doesn't go on my truck again :banghead: :yelrotflmao: That sucks, at least you have a GM Employee Discount  Hopefully you get your rig back up and running soon.

I hear you man, you must be feeling my pain. I just put a new fuel pump in my 99 Blazer last week.$823.67 for the thing. its the 2nd one I put in, in 2 1/2 years. and my cousin put one in before he sold it to me. This time my friends dad put it in for me. He's a mechanic for chevy and he told me NEVER run the tank below 1/4 of a tank because the gas is what cools the pump and when you run it below a 1/4 tank the pump is no longer sumerged in fuel so it over heats.

I always buy OEM parts when it comes to that stuff. I have to many bad experiences. And what the hell is up with people and their cars around christmass lol. My friend wrecked his car on christmas day last year and 2 days after christmas I put my truck in the ditch and screwed over the whole front end :banghead:

this is very true. try not to let the fuel get so low. i know this shouldnt matter but it helps. the fuel sending unit in my ranger is 20 years old lol knock on wood. iv been pretty luck just raplced the battery and alernator 2 years ago and they where also original lol so i cant complain but forsure try and keep the fuel level up it helps out on thpwe gm vehicals. they are know for that

I'll have to try to keep it over the 1/4 tank on the next one I guess, hope it helps. I'm tired of throwing 400 bucks into her every few months.

If it ain't one thing, its another.

The bitch is...my truck is in otherwise great shape for a 99, and its paid for. So my cost to keep it on the road is still less than a new truck payment. It just seems this crap always happens when I'm short on cash, or have money set aside for the banshee ya know. :banghead:

Tell me about the -right around Christmas crap, nothing like kicking you when you're down.

As if its not already hard enough to pay for christmas presents for everyone. Then the truck says "Hey! What about me?" :banghead: greedy bastard.

thats why i own 2 dodge cummins.

Is your 2nd Gen a 12V or 24V? Cause you are lucky if you have a 24V and your VP44 hasn't gone out

I dont buy oem parts from the stealership. There is an AC Delco parts store here in my town and they are always half the price the dealership is and if the dont have it they can get it the next day. I just replaced a pump in my dad's 02 3/4 ton chevy and it was only like 250 bucks for the whole unit. And he got 210k mile out of the first one.
