Thoughtshewas18 Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Im going to the dunes for 4 days this weekend and I have a 2001 banshee. I have Pipes, Vforce3 reeds, K&N setup, and flywheel. I havent redone the engine and I run 32:1 mix. Im in arizona and I havent rejeted it since I bought it last year. It runs good here but takes a little bit to start some times. (when ihavent ridden in a while) Well I did a test and it just made it over 95psi Am I at risk for the dunes??? Let me know what you think. But its definently a new topend time huh? Quote
1000dollabill Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) it's never a bad idea to use two different compression testers. but 95 is real low. you could rering if it doesn't look to bad in the cylinder walls. but for ~250 beans, i'd be doing a rebuild. just saw the real question. it more than likely wont hurt anything. however you may end up pull starting her for some of the weekend. for a quick temperary fix you could prolly throw some new rings in and be alright. if it were me i'd just do a rebuild. If the compression reading is 95 and you are close to sea level, it would probably be in your be interest to at least rering it before the trip. If you have excessive clearence between the piston rings and cylinder wall the piston can move in the bore and take out your piston and cylinder. You would also be looking at splitting the cases to get peices of piston and cylinder out of your crank bearings. Quote

antmortem Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Assuming your guage is correct, I would be suprised if you could start it cold with the kickstart. It just seems like a pain in the ass to me to have to pull start it and the lack of power you will notice when it is running. It's not like it takes more than a couple hours at most rebuild it. If you have a manual you could pull the head off and check the specs on the cylinder, piston and rings. I don't know how far away you are, but I would hate to drive there to ride then have my shit not start after 30 minutes. Quote

If not, as long as BOTH cylinders are both pushing a little over 95 psi, I wouldn't worry too much about it until after the trip. But like others have said, 'shee's not gonna run like shes suppose to. And it really doesn't take too long to replace the rings yourself. My 2 cents.... Quote

But then I would have no troubles starting it the next day or the day after. Actually it runs pretty damn good and idles great now I did a little tune up with the carbs and filters and oil and such. I think ill be just fine for the dunes and im definently going to do a new topend when i get back. One more question... Are the wiseco rebuilt kits the way to go? Quote
