question on +4 timing

should you have to re-jet after installing +4 timing plate? seems to hesitate off idle and then runs fine from mid to full. also is it normal for the kickstarter to kick back a little with advanced timing?

Any jetting adjustments that youll need to make after timming changes probably existed before you changed your timming- timming should'nt effect jetting. At least it did'nt on mine...

No changes will be necessary with timing changes alone. Also, if your going to make the change, go ahead and make it worthwhile; like +6.

if its kicking back a little on the kick starter the timing is probally advanced about all you wanna advance it.sounds to me like you might have it advanced a little to much.i'd try retarding it just a little bit.

ive heard that banshee ignition timing is poorly and erraticly set and is often already advanced or retarded several degrees by flukes from the factory , get a light and time it and youd get many different readings on many unmodified banshees ,you may very wel l be much higheradvanced than you think ! dont know how true this is, but ive heard it man y times from many different reliable sources

i found the problem, i took the flywheel off and found the key down on the bottom, it must of come off when i put the flywheel back on! i re-assembled everything and it runs great! thanks for the help.

Did you use a advance key or adjustable timing plate? If you used the key you might want to look into getting a adjustable plate. Those keys have a bad habit of shearing off and you can pick the plates up real cheap.

Really depends on where your setting at compression wise when you make the advance. Generally no, you will gain throughout.

The 4 degree timing advance took 3 or 4 mph {on pavement} away from the top end on my 99. It's running a shaved head with 140 psi in both cylinders. With out the advance, my bike revs 500 rpms or more higher than with the advance. The benifit I got from the advance was out of the powerband {lower rpms}.

Mine kicks back every now and then as well. Never thought anything of it. Haven't had any problems with the shee up to this point, so I don't worry about it.

hahahaha...I just did the timing advance...and I almost broke my ankle trying to kick it with sneakers on. I just gave it a rap...and hell yes it kicked back. bruised my foot. LOL. I love this shit.

 

Hopeing that I dont have to re-jet either....but Im going to do some plug work to find out.

Is there anything needed when doin' the install? Remove the flywheel (adj. timing plate), flywheel puller,etc??

The timing plate mod is well worth it. You will need a flywheel puller. DO NOT use anything else or you will destry your flywheel. If you can afford to leave the shee down for awhile I would have boonman lighten up your stock flywheel. I wish i could leave mine down for him to lighten it. If you have access to a air impact it will make life easier. You can get a flywheel puller just about anywhere. Set your gap on your pick-up coil to .020".
