banghead Sorry guys if I may be bothering you with a stupid question but How often do you guys rebuild, maintain, or whatever to your engine? Please tell me your mods too. Again sorry for such a question but I'm just trying to figure out what to get . . . 06 Banshee or 06 700r Raptor Thanks

i have gone 2 or more years on a 75 hp gas banshee. a rebuild will depend on how good you take care of your bike, oil changes, good premix, clean air filter.don t suck in air ,water or dirt and it should last a long time.a lil bit of maint. goes a long way.same goes for a raptor.

only when the engine needs it. if you keep up on easy maintenance its no big deal and can go years without rebuilding. alot depends on how hard you ride as well..to rebuild a banshee you might have 200 bucks in it. to rebuild that craptor is gonna be outrageous if something happens. on my yfz450 the dealership says it should be rebuilt every 6 months if you ride hard. all the parts needed are like 200 bucks for it. i figure i should have rebuilt mine 3 times now. thats crazy..

my thoughts exactly. 2 strokes don't necessarily require more rebuilds or scheduled rebuilds every 'x' hours of riding. if it ain't broke, don't fix it :D my buddy's '01 craptor just took a crap on him a few weeks ago. $1800 at the stealership to get it rebuilt with a vito's 686 kit.(??) 2 strokes are simple and a 4 poke has a lot of shit to go wrong when anything lets loose. but then again, in general, 4 poke motors do last longer without any rebuild maintanance. i wouldn't base which machine to get on motor rebuilds though. go more on riding style and which will suit your needs better. take care of either one properly and you'll get years of running good without major work to it. I know people that are on the stock bore from the mid-late 90's on their shee's. Other's I know blow them up it seems like a few times a year. Getting everything dialed in correctly and taking care of it I think is 90% of the deal. If you wanna go through alot of mud/swamp riding I definately would get something else, remember what this macine is capable of and never take it outside of its elements and you will be fine with regular care. Mine is more apart than together, not because it's unreliable, it's because I can't keep my hands off of it messing with stuff and adding aftermarket parts to it. It's like a drug, once you start you cant stop modding. Good luck with you decision.

AMEN

The philosophy of my Banshee for the first 3 months I owned it "Ride for 2 hours, work for 2 weeks, ride for 2 hours, work for....." Basically if you don't have everything exactly how you want it or how it is supposed to be, you will be back at the drawing board and emptying your wallet. But that goes for any and all toys.

How do I ride??? Like its stolen........but its a Banshee :notworthy: ......if it is stolen the cops will never catch me :headbang:

Lot of good advice. Maintain it properly, and you should never have a problem.

Half-ass it and you will join the rebuild-it-every season club.

I find it funny to see ads that say "04 Banshee, fresh rebuild"

What the hell did they do to blow a stock 04 already???

Couldn't agree more. Just take care of it & ride the shit out of it! Still on my stock '97 topend, my shee's modded, but is also maintained better than anything else I own. :shrugani:

Thanks guys for the replies - Another question though - When you say "rebuild your engine" - What do you literally do (sorry if I may sound stupid - just making sure) and is there any additional "rebuilding" when you have certain mods on? I mean I'm not looking for cheetah engines that are big bored to like 500 but staying at a 350-400, ported, pipes, bigger carbs, reeds, K&N filter, etc.

Thanks :headbang:

A "rebuild" to me means a new bore, pistons rings and gaskets.

A ring job and a hone is just a lazy summer Saturday.
