yellabanshee Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 So what failed?....you think it was the impeller?.........Is the motor seized? or will it kick? Quote
MILO Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 So what failed?....you think it was the impeller?.........Is the motor seized?or will it kick? 315557[/snapback] the impeller itself is wasted. all that remains is the shaft, no blades or anything. i'm sure the pieces ruined the seal to the crankcase, which is letting antifreeze into the oil. it runs, but the clutch slips pretty bad from the antifreeze in the oil. i haven't run it since it happened, but i'm just now getting around to fixing it. i just drained the oil and i'm about to pull the clutch cover and see if any debris is in there. i'm planning on replacing the impeller, seal, and bearings. i was planning on just changing the oil a few times before running it too much to try to clean it out some. any other ideas? BrianEb Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Don't forget to buy a new crankcase gasket also. My buddies impeller failed also the white plastic gear totally melted to the green fan part of the impeller. You might want to buy a Prodesign EZ drain while you are at it, becauseif you drain the anitfreeze out of the cylinder jug bolt that small 8mm or 10mm bolt that is located on both sides of the cylinders has a tendency to strip out also. Just some more preventitive maintenence. Bluetraxx.com has a tutorial on how to change the impeller Quote

05bansh Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Does anyone know how hard it is to change out the impellar? I have been thinking of upgrading to avoid the problem you just had Milo. Quote
1800bigk Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 its easy, remove clutch cover, remove water pump covers, remove circlip that retains water pump impeller, switch out impeller, then reverse. of course you have to drain oil and coolant too Quote
SuperChris Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Is this a common failure? Will it make a big difference in how my Banshee cools to get and aftermarket impeller? Quote
1800bigk Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 yes, it has been known to happen on ocassion, no it prolly wont run any cooler. at least mine didnt run any cooler. Quote
64xracer Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 What is the best impeller??? Pro design?? Quote
Fireman-hott Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 IMpeller is easy as pie to replace. Pro design is the one I used. Its a must do if that impeller fails when your hauling ass down a trail expect to overheat really badly. Quote
MILO Posted February 3, 2005 Author Report Posted February 3, 2005 from what i've gathered, it is a pretty common problem. one of those famed banshee inevitable mishaps. i think it either melted or it's stuck in the radiator, cuz i haven't found any debris yet. i'm one of those 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' guys. i figured it would happen eventually, and luckily it didn't cause any other noticable damage. it's not a tough fix, or too expensive, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to make it a mod rather than a repair.
