dirtydownunder Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 could end in tears, hope your a good faber. every one that cuts n shuts parts, always ends up buying specific model parts.... Quote
Larry's Shee Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105318 Exactly what you are describing. Thought of doing this myself except my son's is a J-arm. Had thought about using a Yfz 450 joint for the upper but never came up with a plan for lower , still thinking Quote
burhead Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Hope you know what you are doing. This is one area I would hate to have fail on my bike. I have a good friend that found out what happens when a suspension component cuts loose on a wide open run. I went and put new ball joints and tie rods on all my bikes after that accident. You could get a set of used ones or at the least go with a set of YFZ arms for minimal cost. Quote
Infamous039 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 just buy some G-Force spacers dont risk your life cutting and welding the arms Quote
Infamous039 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 If you ball joints are done then just save up over the winter for some +2+1 arms, you usually can find a nice set on here or ebay for cheap. Quote
crustydemon Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Just do it, it will be fine. Anyone can weld better than a Japanese robot. Quote
lms1977 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) I cut and welded my a arms as well I did not change my ball joints thou I cut them back at the tube whre they meet to the frame and made them 2 inches wider and 1 inch forward per side. I also relocated my shock mounts on the a arm ot change the stiffness and ride height. works great I have a this now for a few years with no problems I ride real rocky areas and do some jumps. the quad has taken a beating. thats not to say it won break next time. I have also cut and welden my footpegs moved them back about 2 inches along with my rear brake and shifter measure twice and cut once good luck Edited December 10, 2010 by lms1977 Quote
camatv Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 this has been done already thought there was a write up on it also TIM at STELLAR machine is selling the ball joints and will include the mount bullets threaded for them. i think he said around 100 bucks for all 4. not bad. last write up i read the guy got them in and they worked fine. good cheap alternative to +2's Quote
AKheathen Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 i think there was even a youtube vid on it. another thought- whay not just go heims?.... you can get them the same, or cheaper, plus you don't have to buy bungs if you can make the longer bungs yourself...... Quote
midlifecrisis Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 That part # youre looking for is es2074r, its a heim joint off a subaru brat. The main threaded part is 14mm, and the spindle pin is 10mm. I used them on my burgard a arms, and they are fine. Props to NYUK for giving me this number when I was looking for it. In fact I renamed my dog es2074r, so I wouldnt forget it. You will have to ream your spindles to make these fit. Quote
crash&burn Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Can I just order them at NAPA? Or do I have to get them online? This Is The part you should give to the parts store Part #: MOES2074R And this the manufacture's number either should work and i did find them online as well Mfr #: ES2074R Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Just do it, it will be fine. Anyone can weld better than a Japanese robot. Actually the majority of the manufacturing for these bikes takes place right here in the USA. I believe their plant is in the midwest somewhere. Quote
rocz Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 starting working on them today. i notched out the lower shock mounts to accommodate the yfz shocks im using. also went to NAPA and ordered the moog tie rod end ball joints. really digging into the arms tomorrow to get them set up for fabrication. also, what do i need so i can ream out my spindles? you need a tapered ball joint reamer, their not real cheep but the only way to do it right, or take them to a machine shop in your area they may have a set and would probably cost less to pay them to do it than you could buy the reamer for. fastquad02blaster Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Just do it, it will be fine. Anyone can weld better than a Japanese robot. Hell yeah. That's what I was thinking too. If you are proficient with a mig or tig go for it. I think it's a pretty good idea, myself. Quote
