bansheejoel Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 The ice track i was racing on was a big oval, Both left turns. I was looking at my tires last night and the right rear has some screws working their way out. A few on the outer tread were pulled back a little bit but no screws were missing. Any ideas? Tires are maxxis razr's And screws are 5/8" kold kutters with 270 in each rear tire......Should i counter sink them a little bit. Rite now they are flush with where the head starts. I was thinking that if they were screwed in a little bit farther there wouldnt be as much leverage on them, but i dont want to strip out the rubber either. Damn i wish a company had HARD compund tires to hold the screws better. Quote
motodrumer58 Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 You have to run 1 inch kk screws all the way through and buy new tires and rims for the dirt!!! I had to learn that the hard way. Quote

Also Razrs are way to soft to hold the screw. I would buy yourself a pair of cheng chin 826 rears. Quote
superfastyfz450driver Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 why not try loc tight lolololol, no but seriously everyone i seen ice racing used c 826 cheng shin tires im not sure on the length but there a very hard compound tire Quote
bansheejoel Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 so the tires that you guys are talking about are a hard compund? I see majic racing has them. Ill have to get those for next year Quote
trickedcarbine Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Definitely run the 1 inch. I just watched 2 guys butcher their cross country tires with 1/2 inch studs and they are all over the track . that was one expensive mistake, and it was the guy at the dealer who steered them toward trying to use their good tires. Now when they yank the studs out the tires will disinigrate in the trails. There is a set of c826 cheng shin tires on ebay for cheap and they aren't studded yet. don't worry about the tread being only 50%, you're riding on studs not tread so who cares. they will take 440 each or 880 in each rear if you want two per lug. my shee is sweet with the 440 though. Just make sure you run the 1 inch, there are good deals on the 1000 ct stud packs if you look. Edited February 19, 2010 by trickedcarbine Quote
trickedcarbine Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 here is that link to a good cheap set up http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-Banshee-YFZ450-RAPTOR-rear-tires-rim-CHENG-SHIN_W0QQitemZ290404201765QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_ATV_Parts_Accessories?hash=item439d707525 Quote
25THZ28 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Try coating the threads of the studs in either rubber cement or weather strip adhesive. It does help. I am running the Chens with 5/8 Kold Kutters. Quote
NOS_350x Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 When i raced i went through and indexed my tires after each night of racing. The studs will pull out some. Even the guys with the cheap tires had to do this. Rubbing on someone in a race also make them come out much more. Quote
Pasi S. Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 We use these kind of tires here in Finland for ice racing and winter riding. The studs are glued with Loctite 480. http://www.ajbike.fi/imagemagic.php?img=images/webkuvat/RENKAAT/MONKIJARENKAAT/MONKIJA%20NASTA/CROSSI74-8551.jpg http://www.ajbike.fi/images/webkuvat/RENKAAT/MONKIJARENKAAT/MONKIJA%20NASTA/CROSSI74-8550.jpg Quote
screaminshee Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 The best thing to do would to use the cheng shins. Seen how the season is "over" if you pick some up now put them in the attic of your garge or shed or anywhere where they will get pretty warm. Leave them up there till your about ready to race. By this time those tires will be so hard from basically being baked that you should have no problem with the studs. On another note, a 1" is a must and if you have the option use gold screws and not the black ones. The gold are a courser thread and will hold better, in my experience anyway and you can resharpen the golds and not the blacks. G Good Luck Quote
banshee 268 Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 the mf44 are good but not ama allowed.big thing to watch for if ama is involved.you should use 1" anyways no matter what tire you use.you need them to go through the canvess of the tire, thats what holds them in. Quote
cable Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 I have problems pulling the outside rows otta my right tire so last winter I put a center otta a junk street bike tire on the inside for extra bite worked extremely well and added less than 1/2 lb Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 i was talking with a local ice racer and he told me to get a piece of carpet and put it upside down in the tire and then screw the screws threw the tire and into the carpet, he also said to use rubber cement on the threads so they dont leak.....
