91/99 banshee Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 well i took the ole shee out, and it ran fine, but everytime i stopped, the overfill in the back would start to leak. the hose that run on the top and goes to the front of the shee was leaking a lil. not alot, just kinda seaping. any ideas as to what could cause that. i mean, shee is running fine, just getting a lil hott i guess. is the resevoir suppose to be filled with fluid, or not. cause right now, mine is. let me know. thanks in advance. methyman Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Check to see if the radiator is full of coolant. If it is I would suggest putting a water temperature gauge on it. It could be the water pump plastic gear stripped off or possibly a head gasket if it pushing the coolant out of the radiator. Quote
locogato11283 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 something could be pressurizing the coolant system. Quote
slopoke Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 depends on the mods and riding conditions. Slow tight trails on a hot humid day is gonna let a little water go. could be a weak cap or bad seal on the cap Quote
HiRoller Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 It could be the water pump plastic gear stripped off I just had this exact problem. Replaced the gear and put in a billet impeller. Quote
Snopczynski Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 With the bike cold, fill the radiator all the way up. Then set the overfill resevoir at the low mark. If your riding and that resevoir doesn't fill up, then its not getting hot. Just moving around can allow coolant to come out the hose under the tank. Hearing noises in the radiator is normal as well. Just remember: FULL RESEVOIR after a ride=HOT! Quote
91/99 banshee Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 ok, conditions were the sandhills, and it was round 98 outside. didn't ride hard, and not for very long. just round 10 to 15 minutes a run. didn't want to push it, since i just redid the carbs. but i did let the motor get cold, and went riding, and the resevoir did fill up and fluid did come out the hose again. added more fluid to the radiator. i don't know where the gear is that you are talking about to check it, so if you could let me know, i will check it. and how do you know if the cap is bad. just by replacing it or what? thanks for the replies. Ieat4strokes Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 IMHO, them resevoirs are junk....I could never keep fluid in mine, i deleted it all together, just keep rad. full and your good to go. Leaked all the time, replaced impeller, still leaked......deleted it, not a prob since Quote

Snopczynski Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 I don't know what to tell you guys. I have run an overflow bottle on all 3 of the bikes I have owned. Never had an issue with overheating, and never had a problem with the resevoir. Quote
91/99 banshee Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 yeah, i dont know what is going on with it. i have had it a lil over a year, and it's never done that. but it seems like after i cleaned out the carbs, all this stuff is happening to it. how do you sync up your carbs. i checked the slides, and they both pretty much go up and the same time. i don't really know what you guys mean by sync'n. let me know. thanks for the info guys. Larry's Shee Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 If it's leaking around shaft, you need new seal. Thread screw into seal (not to far) pull it out with plyers. Check that shaft isn't scored/grooved, lightly sand with fine emery cloth if it is. Pop new seal in. Quote
