is it me or does that clutch cover look loose, and looks like its moving?

If the clutch cover was loose, there would be 1.6 quarts of transmission fluid on the floor of his garage. Looks like it's just the motor shaking when the rpm's come back down.

Did you ever listen for the noise with a stethoscope or long 3/8" socket extension? You might think that's a crazy or stupid idea, but you will find the noise with one of those two things.

try this. I couldnt tell from the vid but just step lightly on the brake lever and rev it again. there should be a rubber grommet to hold the lever off of the case or mabe its vibrating on the foot peg.

Good idea, change the oil and see if it makes any difference.

Where are you from dan? Canada?

Changed the oil. Didn't really make much difference at all.

Like I said before though, if I let it idle and let it get hot, it won't make the noise. I have to give it 3-4 squirts of 300m sprints for it to become audible.

It sounds like it's coming from the kickstarter area, but even if I hold the kickstart, it still does rattles?

From Queensland mate. Formerly Perth. This isn't YTRY4 from PPCC fame is it?

Tried that - but couldn't exactly isolate where it was coming from.

It does sound like it's coming from the Kickstarter area though? Need to emphasise that it only does it when really hot.

When I took it in for the dealer to look at, he didn't seem to fussed because it really didn't make the sound that loud.

The only option I had was to cut skids down the street and risk being arrested LOL. I didn't do this, and thus the bike didn't get hot enough to make the noise. :(

i'd make them fix that... take your water pump cover off (it's just a cover) & see if it's louder ...i'll guarantee you if they have another shee there, it won't make that noise, that is annoying as hell

Where is this cover mate? I will give this a try.

Will coolant spill everywhere if I do this?

That's odd for a new Banshee to be making a sound like that. However, I bought mine new and I was riding one day not long after I got it and noticed it making a ratteling noise. I checked it over and discovered the bolts for the heat guard on one of the stock pipes had vibrated loose and was causing it to rattle.

Not saying that's what your problem is, but be sure to check them also.

Yeah it is  Joe also has a banshee and is on the forum somewhere, what was your nickname on PPCC?

Haha small world!

It's Dan. Aka [bANNED] who used to own the GT-R. Nice looking ute there mate! I just recently sold my STi and bought an SS Ute because I had visions of buying a bike. How things change!

Did some more riding today. Pulled the left side of the motor off and couldn't find anything. Had a feeling it may have been the gear lever as it sounds as if it's from that end of the bike. Also tried the kickstart, so I tore a bit of that apart too and it wasn't louder at all.

Long story short - I've come to the conclusion that it isn't internal. Spent a bit of time tearing it apart and none of the noises got louder. Almost sounds as if its coming from in and around where the carbies are?

So I tore all of the plastics off. Removed the airbox etc. Unfortunately couldn't isolate it so I left it be. It just doesn't want to be found!

I'm just going to try and make it looser/louder and hopefully make it someone elses problem when I take it in for mods! :)

Game on.

09 banshee I thout they stoped making um in 06 ?

Yamaha never stopped making them, they can still be purchased in other countries. '06 was the last year you could buy them new in the United States, they stopped the sales of new units due to emission laws/restrictions.

I just overhauled my shee..after an hour of riding and tuning I developed a rattling noise from right side...turned out clutch adjustment nut come loose (guess I didn't tighten it good enough) anyhow it come loose and went through crank/clutch gear and busted my clutch cover..

OK... took the bike to the local Yamaha Dealer here. Pulled the bike apart, stator cover, clutch cover, exhausts off and checked inside both cylinders with a bore scope etc. All seems to be fine and he could not fault it. He made a note with Yamaha so if anything adverse happens with it relating to this issue, it will get sorted out under warranty.

Anyway - I was happy with that!

Got home and went for a ride, and would you believe it I found this stupid noise!

Once it's nice and hot, the rattle begins - so as a last ditch effort I put my foot on the gear shifter/lever, put a bit of weight on it and GONE! Give it a bit of a revv and it appears that I've isolated the sound.

Thing is, the shifter itself is on really tight and is not loose at all. Could it be the shaft that it is connected to? This would explain why I could hear it on the other side (kickstart side).
