Serious Problems After Porting And Rebuild.....
Banchetta replied to KEVPOPPAPUMP's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I don't know for sure, but I'd stay away from any synthetic oils for the tranny...I'd think the synthetic properties would make a clutch slip, but I'm not positive.. -
I was under the impression that flat slides yield more power, but you LOSE throttle response. With a round slide you have throttle response, but lose a slight amount of power.... I don't know. Someone please correct me if I am wrong..... And if possible, show proof. Call me "doubting Boony" or something. It's just what sticks in my head...... From what was explained to me, the flatsides provide better low end and less top, but it doesn't make sense... Why would draggers want flat slides...........can someone clear this up????
-
You said it won't fire.... I thought you had no spark!!!!
-
300 mains, try stock pilots first, needles moved to the 4th clip from the top, adjust air screws to throttle response....
-
Take your air box lid off?? Over oiled air cleaner?? Try smaller pilots?? Where do the air screws like to be at??
-
I'd say 3rd or 4th clip from the top. Try both and see which one you like better. Should notice a difference on the bottom end...
-
I needed richer pilots on mine. The only pipe I've jetted that I'd recommend richer pilots....Sorry Deuce.. I'd say 27.5 or 30 pilots, 330 mains at 30 degrees out, and 4th clip from the top on the needles....
-
Sounds like the mains are too small for the colder weather. I'd go up 2-3 sizes. Try 290's..
-
I know a few people that have their 250Rs done from CT and quite a few people on here have had problems w/ them... I wouldn't suggest them, anyone else, but them.....
-
Jetting is just as important and has just as much powergain as any mod on your shee.....not to mention, you could blow it up if your too lean...
-
Thats amazing how rich yours is running...I agree that the reeds will run it richer. I run my mids on the richest setting w/ boysen reeds...but thats my shee. I raised my friends shee w/ fmf golds to the richest setting and it woke up tremendously. I was amazed, but when he put boysen petals in, it fell on its face. Drop the needles to the 4th clip from the blunt end and it woke up again.. any other setting leaner would make it hesitate at lower rpms before the powerband. Most shees in my area like the 4th clip position w/ reeds and richest setting w/o reeds....I've also tried the 27.5 and 30 pilots in several shees and none of them liked it exept the pc pipes...(never jetted in toomeys or cpi personally) I think the high revs tend to like a richer pilot then the mids.... the richer pilot does help the shee start first kick when cold, but has a slight hesitation when I whack the throttle. My friend had the same problem w/ his sst's. He had 30 pilots. I adjusted his air screws and it ran better, but still wasn't right, the air screws liked to be at 3 turns out. He dropped to 27.5's and it got better, but still liked the air screws out at 3 turns. He dropped back to stock and it has a nice snap to the throttle response and low end.....but who knows, I wonder if the desert riding is affecting this also. A motor w/ a load on it will require more fuel, then a motor that spins easier......

Try disconnecting the Tors, little black box above the left exhaust and parking brake switch....
-
I would start w/ 330's at that temp...ARe you running w/ no air box lid?? or cut lid?? If not then go w/ 310's to start and work from there...Needles should be in the 3rd clip and try stock pilots and adjust the air screws to the best throttle response. If the air screws like to be .5 turns out or less then try a larger pilot and readjust the air screws...If you find the shee starts hard all the time, then go larger pilots...
-
Larger carbs aren't required, but you'll benefit a little w/ them w/ the porting...2hp gain w/ larger carbs on a port job...most trail riders like the 2 into 1 or the 28PWKs for the low end response....I've tried ported stock carbs and 34's and lost hp w/ both....I have polished cylinders...
-
Title sais it all....since the flatslides are supposed to be better, I was curious if this would solve the throttle sticking problem w/ water and at the same time have better low end from the flat slide. It would also be awesome if the 2 carbs would be connected together so the throttle would be alot easier, kinda like the snowmobiles.......hmmm.....am I just dreaming??
-
He's probably talking about the carb top. I had a '89 that was the same way.....I'd like to try some PWK26's......the flat slide is supposed to have better low end, that'd be sweet!!
-
Hey Ben, I was just curious, you always like a leaner needle and richer pilots then I'd normally suggest. Is that common in your area on most pipes??? I've tried larger pilots (27.5) on about 7 different pipes and none of them like it exept the Pc pipes....most shees in my area usually like the richer needle to...just curious if our areas are that much different in jetting....
-
My friend did .025 over and had over 160lbs and never fully broke in.....I wouldn't go over .030 w/o running race fuel...
-
w/ no porting, stay stock. You'll lose hp on a larger carb...the larger carbs only benefit w/ porting...you also might want to cut the air box lid or remove it if your not riding in mud....that'll give you great gains..
-
The pro circuits on my shee liked a richer needle position (one notch) and definately larger pilots.....You must have a hard time starting it w/ stock pilots....Granted, you won't get rid of all that hesitation, thats the powerband of those pc pipes and the reason why I don't recommend them for trails or sand pits. But you can get some of it out w/ the jetting...you should notice a better response w/ the air screws .5 turn out from seated. I'd get a set of 27.5 pilots and try different air screw settings after... make sure you raise the needle one notch by lowering the clip 4th slot from the top....you have to pull the spring back from the top of the slides and shake the gold clip out, then the cable will be able to come off and you'll see two philip screws on the top of the slides, take them out and the needles will come out of the slides...

Jetting Toomey Pipes And K&n Filters
Banchetta replied to screamin_banshee_2003's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I agree w/ Ben. That'll be a good start. I'd go w/ the 30 pilots....I'm no big fan of bigger pilots as you can see. The only pipe that I've seen like the larger pilots is the PC pipes....of course, this is w/o porting. Porting will require larger pilots... -
Boony, I rode 2 different shees w/ the sst's. I think they have a lot more low end then the fatties. My friend threw his sst's on and put 30 pilots in and it sucked on the low end. I convinced him to go back to the stock pilot since his air screws were liking the 3 turns out badly. Since then, his is instant powerband at the touch of the throttle at low rpms....you think the one you rode might have been off on the jetting???
-
Don't put it on its grab bar......W/ the -2, wheelies are easy as hell and don't have to go back as far...If you have to put it on its grab bar to load into a truck, the a longer grab bar won't work, the shee will fall back down..

Gotta Go Ride'n Tommorrow And Shees Broken
Banchetta replied to XTShee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Try bypassing the kill switch on the handlebars, its the black/white or yellow striped wire that goes from the kill switch on the handlebars to the gas tank. By the gas tank, there is a single connector, disconnect it... I've also seen the little black box do what your saying...Tors...is that disconnected/?? -
Jetting Toomey Pipes And K&n Filters
Banchetta replied to screamin_banshee_2003's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
There hasn't been a lot of info for jetting on these pipes yet, but I'd start w/ 320-330 mains, and maybe 27.5 pilots...go from there..
