The jetting between my 28's, 33's, and 35's were almost the exact same. The different reed cages affected the pilots more though. All of them liked the 162 mains the best. I think most of you are running too rich, especially on the pilots. I ran best w/ the 42 pilots on the pwk carbs....and I noticed huge differences between the 45 and 42 never mind a 50....... Most of you don't want to spend the time to jet your shees in properly, you can gain more w/ jetting then you can w/ mods....spend the time, you only have to do it once.

New top end, how should my jetting change?
Banchetta replied to 2Smoker's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
sounds like your doing your homework. Let us know your final jetting when your done. -
Go w/ any high rev pipe. I'd say T5, Pt highs, CPI, PC, or maybe even rockets. I have tried rockets yet so I can't really comment on them.
-
I'd try disconnecting the tors also...I fought w/ shees before thinking it was jetting and it turned out to be the tors. Disconnect the little black box above the left exhaust and disconnect the parking brake switch. Takes 2 minutes and worth a million. If it still persist, then go down to 300 mains. One way to tell if the needles are affecting or the mains is to hold it wide open and see if it cleans up after a few seconds. If it does, then your needles are too rich. IF not, then its your mains.
-
I think your fine for testing and I'd do it..Slap them together and run it for testing. Check your plugs and fine tune the needles and air screws...I'd think your real close to the jetting you need. I've had good experience w/ pc pipes as well as every other pipe on the market exept for rocket, dg, cpi, and shearers. Most jetting is pretty close and within 3-5 sizes...Your a little richer than I'd start w/ for pc pipes, so roll w/ it. Keep us posted.

New top end, how should my jetting change?
Banchetta replied to 2Smoker's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
The clip positon can change performance drastically on certain pipes...especially fmf pipes...4th or 5th clip will be your sweet spot, if it sputters before powerband, then go back to the 4th clip..trial and error...I'd start w/ a 290-300 mains since its now ported, you will need a larger main...the pilots might have to go up also w/ the porting, but I'd try the stock pilot first and see how it runs w/ the throttle response and how well it starts when cold and hot...keep us posted. -
Since you have the pipes. Throw them on, jet them in and you'll see and know how the T5's run. Then when you ride other shees, you'll know the differences between pipes. You'll notice huge gains over the stock pipes, mostly on top...As far as low end pipes not pulling on top.... I get over 90mph now w/ the stroker and 88mph w/ no porting. The low end pipes have more torque and can pull taller gearing so they make up for top end. Banshees can be mountain goats and when the power comes on way earlier, it doesn't have that hard hit like the high revs do. They are smooth and more predictable...A lot of people get bad impressions of midrange and low end pipes...High revs means your just putting your power at higher rpms...meaning less torque, more wear on the motor, and harder on the clutch.

Runs good and slowly bogs and dies?
Banchetta replied to Shee_Rookie's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Like Dave and Rod said, check for spark. Did you just look at the plugs or put some new ones in? You can't tell by looking at them. Try some new plugs and check for spark and go from there. -
My shee ran best w/ 162 mains, 42 pilot, and needle 2nd clip from the blunt end...I ran a little larger main in California, but the pilot was still spot on....I noticed a huge difference going from a 45 pilot to a 42. I still had a dead spot at 5500rpms though and drove me nuts. I don't know if the head/domes did the trick or the compression, but it was worth every penny.
-
You didn't put something back together right. If it ran right before than the jetting has nothing to do w/ it...Check your slides in the carbs and make sure the cutaway is facing the air box, also check to see if the choke tube is between the two carbs (1/4" x 2" long) you could also disconnect the tors and go from there.
-
You have other problems. Your jetting should be very close w/ a 290, 25 pilot...sounds to me that it might be your tors acting up...try disconnecting the little black box above your left exhaust and disconnect the parking brake switch...also make sure your slides are in the right carbs....cutaway facing the air box. then check to see if your choke tube is in place between the 2 carbs.

I haven't read the whole 5 pages of this thread, but I can tell you guys this. I got more hp on the dyno w/ my stroker w/ the 35's than the 26's, 28's, and 33's...bottom and top...I also had a dead spot that I couldn't get rid of. Dave at Noss gave me a set of heads to try out...My squish was way off w/ the stroker, I was running a spacer plate w/ 158psi...I put Daves head on and boosted my compression to 185psi and problem solved.....I think the strokers need a little more compression to match porting and stroke...What is everyone else using for compression on there strokers?

For trails, I'd get some ptr mids....Next in line would be some fmf sst's, then dmc or Bills. Stay away from pc, toomey, trinity, cpi or other high rev pipes. They won't work as great on trails and you'll be clutching it a lot more.

runs best with air screw all the way in
Banchetta replied to roosthrower's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
If it likes the air screws all the way in then your richening the mixture, which means you might want a larger pilot and readjust the air screws... -
W/ stock porting, you will lose hp....
-
Sredish is right. These are only baselines. No one can tell you exactly what your final results will be...You are better to start rich and work down. Big deal if you have to change the jets to lean it out. At least you won't be changing pistons... As far as listening to the manufacturers specs.....

Have you had a chance to call them yet for the group discounts?

I've never ridden a shee w/ front ohlins, but I've ridden a shee w/ a rear ohlins and I've ridden shees w/ full elkas. I've never ridden such a softer ride then the ohlin rear......I was truely amazed. I currently run Works front triples and stock rear and want new shocks all around as well and have been asking the same question.....My buddy has Elkas all around and I"m not that impressed from his to mine and I"m running a stock rear....I was more impressed w/ the other shee w/ the stock fronts and ohlins rear.....Decisions, decisions, decisions.........anyone else????
-
The high revs are from an air leak or cable holding up the slides a little...Your motor needs air to rev up. Find where its coming from.
-
It'll range and average about 2hp on one jet size...at least w/ all the dyno runs I do average about that.
-
There was a 7hp gain on my shee w/ the v-force reeds over the ported stock cages.....The powerband was very erratic and untamed though...no smooth power, great for drags....I bought a set of pyramids and haven't ran them on the dyno yet. Keep an eye out, I'll be doing that shortly..The pyramids run a lot smoother. We'll see about the gains though on the hp and torque.

anyone have any experience with paul turner?
Banchetta replied to nickxc's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
A lot of people run the mids, since they are a proven pipe, but no many have tried the high revs...PT claims they are very similiar to the T5's power curve. -
runs better with air fuel screw out? help me
Banchetta replied to yama_banshee's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
sounds like you should clean the carbs w/ compressed air, if the problem persist ,then try a smaller pilot. -
I"m runnin a 4mm stroker w/ PTR mids and low end porting. I'm running 185-190 mains, 58 pilots....cgk needles 5th clip from the blunt end.
