Check your reedsand clean the your carbs really good. I had a similar problem and it ended up being a tiny piece of dirt in where the needle seats in the carb.
I picked up an 87 back in february in pieces. A box of parts, and a motor with a cracked case. With all your help, money, and a lot of time I got her all fixed up. I got it running Friday before memorial day and took it up that day for the weekend. She ran like a champ.....until I cartwheeled lmao. I bent the shit out of my j arm and cracked my rear fender in half but it was a hell of a ride! Here's some pics
Now after she cartwheeled
It's not 100% the way I want it but I had to rush to get it ready for memorial weekend.
UPDATE: I finished my carb cleaning. I started with the right since that was the side giving me trouble and sure as shit there was a little black speck behind the main and in the needle slot. Cleaned it all out, cleaned the left side and no more problem. It's 2am now so I don't wanna go rippin down the road. I'll let you know in the morning I it still stays fixed.
I'll pull the carbs, clean them with compressed air and some love, then check reeds while I'm at it after work. I'll post my results as sometime tonight. Any more input until then would be greatly appreciated.
I also check my trans fluid and it's only halfway on the crosshatch. I'm 99% sure it was full before all this. Here's a video of the sound, hopefully you can hear it.

The very en of the video is when you can hear it the best
Would it be plausable to think the right carb could have gotten plugged with dirt once I opened it up? It runs fine at idle to almost 1/4 throttle then it just bogs into a throaty sound when you get past 1/4 throttle.
I'm used to my plug wires kind of clicking onto the plugs. My wires just kind of go on but aren't super tight. Should I squeeze the plug with pliers to try and make a tighter connection? Also, would I be able to see the spark during the day?
TORS gone parking brake gone. I ran it for about 5 min in 2nd and 3rd gear with no problem. It cooled down then I ventured up to mid 4th and gave it a rip. she took off like a champ but when I slowed down I heard it. It's similar to the sound of a 4 stroke (makes me want to vomit) when I give it gas now. It bogs and the right side is smoking less than the left. I switched wired but it is still on the right side. From what I can tell the right side has a slight miss or bad fuel/air mixture. I have no idea....
Sorry to keep posting, im on the go though. When I noticed the noise I killed the bike. The right pipe was not as hot as the left ( the right side also had a leaner and oily looking plug before this.) leak down test was perfect, too.
It's only when I give it gas. The plugs are oily, and visibly wet. The right side is worse than the left. I just did a compression test and they're both at 140 (or close to). I switched the plug wires with no noticeable change. I used new plugs with no change still. My stator is new from sheerider1026.
I'm breaking my shee in by what my clymer says. I got to 4th and ripped on it for a sec then when I came to s stop I can hear a nasty throaty sound. It hardly even wants to drive. Wtf happened? 27.5 pilots, 1 turn out on the air screw, middle needle clip, 800ft at 80 degrees, 310 mains no airbox lid.
I should have specified. I'm at 1.5 turns out, 27.5 pilots middle clip on the needle, 800ft elevation, 80 degrees, no lid, 310 on the main but will be going down after if chops. No motor mods, just pipes and reeds really
I'm really paranoid after my build, just to warn you all. Here are my plugs after she warmed up about 3 or 4 times and then driven for about 2 min in 2nd gear. What do you think? The left plug came from the left side and the right came from the right.
Clymer says 2.6 qts is the coolant capacity, but I've only managed to get like 1.8 into the radiator. I've ran it a few times at idle to see if would go down but the radiator is still full. I checked the impeller when I reassembled everything and I'm 100% sure there was no coolant in it already. What do you think?
