  1. x2 on letting us know elevation, id bet your CDI is fine don't buy another one if you haven't already. As for your pickup pull the stator cover and the pickup is mounted to the stator, its the little black box beside the flywheel. There are two bumps on the flywheel, rotate it so that its in front of the pickup and set the gap between the bump and the pickup to the thickness of a matchbook cover. Clean your carbs completely if you haven't done so, the stock stator for the most part will cause you less problems in the long run given the history of the aftermarket ones. If you've got a flywheel puller the thing to do might be to go ahead and swap the stocker back in.
  2. Double check your idle screws and make sure there the same, if you've got the same size jets in both sides you might have an air leak in the non rich side causing it to lean out. A leakdown test would find it.
  3. The reason I was looking at new cyl's just because I know exactly zero about the history of this motor, I was thinking if I can find a good deal on a set of jugs already machined and possibly with the port work already done I could just bolt them on with a new set of pistons and be back together with no more downtime. Then depending on the condition of the stockers they could be bored and sold or ported for another rainy day. This bike is a 1987 and as far as I can tell it is stock, but then again I haven't pulled the head to look or measure either. As for the health of the bottom end again I don't really know... I know I SHOULD tear into it and check everything out I just have a riding trip in a couple of weeks that i'm not willing to miss.
  4. Okay last time I checked my compression was on the lowish side on this engine... about 105psi I'm thinking about re-doing my top end, I know zilch about what's previously been done to this engine if anything. What I *THINK* i'll need to do is this: 1) Grab some cylinders 2) Grab some pistons for the cylinders 3) Get a top end gasket kit 4) tear down the top end and replace parts. That being said 1) What have I overlooked in my list above. 2) Can I do this without splitting the cases? 3) Should I split the cases and check it out anyways? 4) I have a riding trip im supposed to go on May 20, 2010 - Should I wait to tear into it until I return? (the engine is currently out of my bike anyways) What do you guys recommend? I've got a little extra cash lying around, this bike is a trail bike. I have a FMF Fatty pipe, and open airbox w/ K&N are the only breathing mods.
  5. When trying to kick it over are your plugs wet with fuel? <- meaning kick it several times, give it some gas when you do it then if it still doesn't try to fire pull the plugs and make sure they've got fuel on em. Have you done a compression check?
  6. Thanks for the waterpump cover!
  7. Replace your plugs, sounds like they're fouled. Could be caused by running too rich, are you plugs really black and oily?
  8. I'm gonna chime in with my .02 I bought my shee second hand, its a 1987 model and it was in very sad shape all over, the plastics were rough, the engine looked rougher.. Still had TORS system, carbs leaked and the thing bled gas all the time. The jetting was WAY off, the tires were bald, the wheels still are garbage (dented and such).. As for cranking up and running, that it did.. Without fail every time. I got this thing around November or so and found this site looking for some help with it. Come to find out the thing was missing intake to airbox boots & an air filter, and the crossover pipe for the intake, the silencers were completely gutted. Anyways the first thing I did was get get the airbox re-connected & the jetting right, which was trial and error based on the advice found here, Then I worked on the cosmetic aspect of it some and fixing the little mechanical issues that i've found thus far. Things that have broke / gone wrong. 1) The keyswitch went bad, it wouldn't stay in the run position, just driving along and it would vibrate until the contacts disconnected and the bike shut down!, Relocated to trash. 2) It quit shifting... This turned out to be the little screw that holds the shift star on.. It didn't have any thread locker and backed out (But it only took it 23 years to do it doesn't look like anyone had ever been inside there but anyways it took a long time hehe) 3) Stator burned out after I washed the shit out of it.. I read to waterproof my stator cover but I didn't get around to it and had to replace the stator.. Lesson Learned! 4) It's bleeding oil, new oil seals are on the way didn't start bleeding until I pulled the clutch cover however. Of those issues one of my 4 poke buddies ribs me about having her torn down a lot since I got the shee. He likes to give me shit saying "All the time you've invested working on that thing you coulda bought a Honda and not had to mess with it.." I just respond with "well I might have bought a Honda if I was a little girl" However from above you can tell shee was in pretty sad shape, of the 4 big issues ive had 3 have left me with no start but at least 2 of them could have been totally prevented had someone done some checks once in a while on it. That being said i'm just as much to blame since I didn't bother to go over the thing with a fine toothed comb when I got it. I *SHOULD* have pulled the clutch cover and inspected it, I *SHOULD* have waterproofed my stator cover. In Conclusion, ANYTHING you buy will require some degree of care, your riding style could have to do with how much wear and tear your bike takes too.. Properly warming your quad up before taking off on it, actually greasing the grease fittings etc. Yeah I've had to do some work to a 23 year old four wheeler but it still starts on the first kick and is still spanking four stroke ass!
  9. hmm appreciated but i don't really like the desert tank look :\ is much appreciated though.
  10. I need a white radiator shroud plastic, and white gas tank plastic, good condition, don't have to be mint. Also looking for aftermarket exhaust if you have any hanging around there, pipes + silencers. Silencers must have US forestry approved sparkies installed and intact

    WTB Exhaust!

I want to buy exhaust for my stock, non ported shee. I ride exclusively trails and ATV parks no dunes near me. Prefer Black but im not picky on the finish Silencers MUST have US forestry approved spark arrestors installed & intact Shipped to 28147 Cash in hand!
  12. What exhaust setups you got left? Need pipes + silencers for a trial ridden shee
  13. I would like to buy a black radiator cover and black tank plastic, i have my stock red one's that i've brought back to life and they're in pretty damn good shape now if you're intrested in some red ones. failing that let me know how much you want for your white ones/black ones and send pics, i'll post up some good pix of my plastics in the morning. shipped to 28147
  14. I currently have my banshee torn down to the frame cleaning and painting it. When i bought my shee it was in pretty sad shape visually and didn't run very well. I am putting new oil seals in as soon as they get here. Mods - far as i know stock engine with no porting. No airbox lid with K&N Filter Tors Removed The previous owner pretty much gutted the stock silencers see exhibit "A" Needless to say it's pretty loud and i don't have spark arrestors.. See exhibit "B" & "C" (opens with quicktime) Exhaust Sound - standing in front of the shee -- http://www.pondtunes.com/personal/banshee/bansheesound2.amr Exhaust Sound - standing behind the shee ---- http://www.pondtunes.com/personal/banshee/bansheesound1.amr I've been considering some aftermarket exhaust and dropping a tooth on my front sprocket.. What I need: A) Exhaust that won't be louder than what this thing already is - pipes / silencers I only trail ride, im in the piedmont of north carolina there are no dunes. C) Jetting recommendations based on my mods Elevation is 791 feet, temps in the summer hit upper 90's thanks in advance! I've seen a couple pipes/silencers for sale here that i'd go ahead and buy but if i should hold out for a set of gnarleys or something I will.
  15. Lmao i MUST hear this!! Sound clip please!
  16. Thanks guys think i've got a set on the way! If all goes well maybe i'll need more!
  17. Got stock headlights?
  18. Got stock headlights by chance? Entire assembly is okay just need the lenses really
  19. I need at least one headlight lens, the entire assembly would be okay but not a deal breaker i just need the stock glass lens/reflector!! shipped to 28147
  20. Go buy new plugs instead of cleaning them, clean your carbs, make sure they're synched then try again. You could also do a compression check to give you an idea of cylinder health.
  21. hmm! 26 bucks sure beats the quote I got from cascade! where does one aquire a 26$ gripper?
  22. I would like to see what seats you guys are running on your red/white shee's My seat foam is fine however the seat fabic is a bit worn and blah looking.
  23. if you've been in there check your gap between your pickup and the bumps on the flywheel... if it's too far it will be hard to start and could possibly not even run as the pickup wont trigger and fire the ignition! the gap between the bumps on the flywheel and the pickup should be about the thickness of a matchbook cover.
  24. Just an update got back from our camping/riding trip to Uharrie where we had a blast. My little sheet metal screws and homemade brackets for the battery and CDI held up great, despite a LOT of jumping, quite a bit of rocky/bumpy hill climbs and a rollover off a 6 foot embankment... (i got no good excuse lol it was pitch black and I just didn't see it) Anyways the brackets for my GPS were much thinner and didn't survive the fall, so the next morning I got up and straightened my clutch lever and mounted the GPS flat to the plastic that housed the keyswitch. It's much more stable here and is just as visible/usable. As for battery life I ran my LED's & GPS/mp3 player constantly while we were there and I got about 12 hours of ride time on a full charge running everything. I probably would have gotten a little more had I left the mp3 player off but who knows it worked fabulously. I think i'll float my ground so I can keep it charged with the shee next.
  25. Stock stator for the win
