I don´t know how loud is that sound, but everytime I hear my motor "sucking" the air, it has been lean. HOw´s the throttle respond?

My friend has a 421CUB at sea level. Andy from M&M told to use 22cc noss domes for pump gas. The stock plate is modded to +4. -
are mods necessary for ice racing?
Pasi S. replied to UPbansheeRacer's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I have been on ice, but not racing. My friend had a clean-up ported RZ350 motor in his bike and was pushing 59HPs and 55Nm of torque. He smoked all modded 450´s and a modded Renegade. Only thing that could get even was a 525 KTM Dirt bike. Lowered and wider Banshee with a good set of tires makes it a beast on ice. Get a set of used pipes, you will need more RPM´s than what stock pipes can give you. I personally hate the stock Mikunis in winter time. They jammed all the time. Now I have 35.5PWK´s. Get a set of good tires and maybe +2" spacers for rear wheels. Flip the fronts over. Do a timing plate mod to +3 or +4. Get a set of reeds. Boyesen Pro duals or something like that and port the stock reed cages Get your head milled a little. Keep your eyes open for a used -1 or -2 swinger. Don´t use oil in your air filter, when doing ice-racing, and make sure you are not running lean up top. We use this "alcohol based" anti-freeze....thing in our gas in winter time 0.5 to 1%, I think you know what I mean... My other friend had a 47hp bolt on Banshee with a minor port work done. He was using 20" rears with 250 ice studs in each rear tire. 15-40 gearing was good for him. I have 22" Maxxis RazrII´s with 250 studs and I used 13-42 gearing with them. Now I have more power and longer swinger so I´m going to use 14-41 (stock) with them next winter. Max speed what I have done in the ice was 55 to 57 mph, so there was no long pulls. -Pasi S. -
Remember that I am not a pro, but I have been fighting to get my bike to run right. IMO because you have leaned it from the needle. It will need more gas to rev up. Yes, because you have too large main jets. If my carb settings are all faked up, I allways start from the main jets and work down from there. First I will put my needles up to 5.th position and air screw 3 turns out, and mains big enough. Then I´ll start to lean it from the mains to find out the best power. After I can´t feel any more power or it will only rev good but the power feels weak, I go back one size. Then I´ll start to lean my needle to clear out the mid-range and test the throttle respond from the half throttle to WOT. If the midrange feel "fresh" and "light" and the bike runs good, but it will bog a little, I usually go up one size from the mains. If it will bog bad, you have to raise your needle one step. After you have figured your mains and the needle you need to adjust your air-screw to get a good throttle respond and good starting. If it´s best close to 3 turns out, I think your pilots are too large, and if it´s best close to 1 turn out, you should go one size larger pilot. just my 0.02 € If this does not make any sence to you, ignore it. I can´t explain it better in english. -Pasi S.

Cam, I sure you will figure it out fast! It is easy. You can also edit your pic´s in PB or with Paint. -Pasi S.

What 2 stroke oil do you all use?

do not cut your new OEM fenders.

New gas with 32:1 and a set of new plugs... report back. If it won´t do good, don´t ride it. This site is full of professionals who can AND will help you. -Pasi S.

Welcome uk421Shee! I live in Finland, so I´m a tad closer to you than the others.. Hahaa! This site is "all you need to know", so enjoy. -Pasi S.

OK, here is my Banshee. it´s 2006 with the serious amount of plastic. I´m between cut or not to cut... right now it´s NO for cutting. -Pasi S.

I have a set of 35.5 PWK´s. I can´t compare them to AirStrikes but my bike was happy with 40 pilots. I also test 42, 45 and 48, but the best was 40 in my motor. Now I have done more agressive porting, and have CEL´s also, so I´m going to start with 42 pilots and CEL´s in the middle and go from there. Like allready said above your mains are going to be around or below 150. (I´m no pro) -Pasi S. My mods are down there V V V V V V

I pretty sure that this is what you are looking. Here you can see the wires for YPVS controller and the YPVS motor. Is it a 31K motor?? I have 1983 RD 350 YPVS street bike and it is fun to ride. -Pasi S.

Oh my god!! HAHAAAAHAA!! That just made my day a tad better!! OK, I think that Camatv can back this up. In my opinion, if you are not going to make any serious power mods and you are only riding trails. And only thing what you need is a better sound. Then I would get a set of Toomey T6´s. In my opinion they sounds even better that T5´s and they are good for stock port cylinder. The T5´s can handle more agressive porting and give you more top end, but like you said, you will not need a huge top end power. So IMO check the T6´s also. I love the sound of T5´s, I have a set in my Banshee... With K&N´s, crispy reeds, higher compression and porting...the RING di di di bing bing bing bing just make you feel good. Hey Cam, after listening your SSTs a couple more times they sound a little lean to me?? -Pasi S.

Welcome to the BHQ!! This is a great site and all the info you will need is here. First thing I would like to ask from you. How do you feel sitting on your Banshee? ...are those handle bars good for you? It makes miracles to adjust them. You may need to buy a different kind, but after that it feels better. What is the condition of your tires, sprockets and chain? It makes no sense to make any power mod´s if your chain is ratling and your tires won´t hook. How about your shocks? Do they need service? The Jumpy-Pumpy Banshee with alot of power is.... just something. Do you have Nerf-Bars? I think you should have a set to be safe. I think you are looking a good mid-range power like you said above. If I were you with 1000 dollars. I would first maintain my bike to be ready for better power and adjust my "sitting position" to feel good. You can find a used set of good pipes from a 4 sale section. Timing plate is cheap and good mod. Better air-filter and TORS delete-kit. Maybe a set of Boyesen Pro dual stage reeds to replace your stock ones. You will need a selection of main-jets and a set of bigger pilots. Also with 13,14 and 15 front sprockets and 40,41 rears you can adjust your gearing for allmost everything. Post a pic of your Banshee if you can... -Pasi S.

Banshee reliability in cold temperature (canadian winter)
Pasi S. replied to yakidou's topic in General Banshee Discussion
The winter here in Finland is also long and cold. Never had any issues. The coldest has been -26*C and that was too cold for my taste. My face turned to an ice-cube. I have to say x2 for anything above. My coolant can handle -40*C and I use that all the time. What I have noticed is that after -15 I need to richen up the main jets seriously. Only thing I can think of is, that I don´t use oil in my filters after the snow is here, or the ground has freezed. The oil in the filters acts weird and can "bock off" the air. This has happened for me a couple of times and I lost plugs. I use K&N clamp-on filters and I take them off after a hard riding and take them inside to let them dry. My Banshee sits outside during the winter. Use good oil in your pre mix and in your gear box. -Pasi S. -
If I were you, I would also buy a smaller pilots and some main jets to make the final adjustments with your new needles. -Pasi S.
-
OK, we have same pipes. Last year my porting was "un -finished" and it was missing seriously low end and it was peaky. In the winter time I had a 160 mains, xxx needles in the middle, and 42 pilots 1 or 1.5 turns out, and that was -4*C. In the summer time I was using 150(+32*C) to 155 and 40 pilots 1.5 to 2.5 turns. ( I didn´t have any smaller mains or pilots, and I was using a different needle in the summer time) Now I´m going to have a smoother powerband, because I have finished my porting. I don´t know anything about the CEL´s with those small pilots, but let´s see... If everything goes well. My motor runs in the middle of the next week. -Pasi S.
-
Something is definetily not right in that motor. I´m also thinking that you are rich and that´s why your motor won´t rev up top. ...it´s hard to say after that one video but anyway. I´m not sure but it also sounds like your clutch is slipping too. I have a bad slipping clutch in my RZ350 and there is nothing else I hate as much as a spilling clutch. Like Andy told you, try those 300 again and see how it goes. -Pasi S.
-
Remember that I am not a professional on this one or anything. I did my porting by myself and it was hard. I´m happy now because it´s done. I can´t tell how it is, because it is still apart. They say, that if you want to save some low end power, don´t go over 190 exhaust. They also say, that if you want to keep your mid-range, don´t go over 196 exhaust. They also say, that BD close to 30 can keep your low end happy, and BD close to 35 is for top end power. Everything between is between. I have "drag" numbers in my stock cylinders, but my porting is not a drag port. Shapes, angles and time areas makes a difference. -Pas S.
-
What pipes? I have 64.5 ported stock cyls with Noss Head/20cc domes. It has zero riding time with my resent mod´s, but I was going to start with 155 mains, 42 pilots and CEL in the middle. I also have 35PWKs. My porting was not made by any Professional. -Pasi S.

who does the best engine/port work?
Pasi S. replied to gangstahic's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Not true! I don´t trust my left hand!! -Pasi S. -
I´m not an expert or anything, but in my opinion you may be rich on your main jets. If your mains are too big your motor will not rev enough in top end. In my motor there was a huge difference between 2 size in mains. The difference was like running hard and then after ripping like hell and lifting the front end in 4.th gear. ...I don´t know but if I were you I would try smaller mains and see how it will run. If your motor gets too much fuel and can´t rev up top, you get the feeling to go upper gear too fast and that makes you slow. (just my feelings) -Pasi S.
-
... but I think that my agressive stage 8 ported stock reed cages in my street bike works great! Thanks Cam. ...they are "Xtra Fast" I can do 40 all day long. -Pasi S.
-
OK, thank you for letting me know. -Pasi S.
