  1. Of my 'answer', you mean I answered my own question, to didn't read further where it says I don't want to be 6 miles from home and find out my front brakes are gone. Sounds like I can leave em or from the other responses though. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  2. That's the basic idea, but I'm looking to make something low and flat. Rectangular like a brief case, but small enough to fit in the rack and to be unobtrusive. I'll figure out the exact dimensions and capacity once I can find an aluminum filler neck/cap combo. But I'm thinking I could get an extra gallon or two that way.
  3. Anyone know where I can get a fill neck to weld in? (preferably alum.) I've asked around locally and I get these dumb looks followed by "wow, you'd think that would be easy" but then a shrug followed by idk. I dont want to put the over-sized (desert) tank up front, just don't like the way it looks and thought a container to fit in a six-pack rack would do the trick and look pretty trick. Esp if it was connected to the stock tank or the carbs via a shut-off and check valve. I just need a fuel cap and therefore a neck to mount it on. You see american chopper and other TV shows fabbing that stuff for custom bike tanks but who's making the fill neck for them? They always seem to just appear.
  4. So does anyone regret leaving the front brake shields off? Yeah I know, I can always just put them back on, but the trails I ride are loaded with loose sticks, rocks etc... and can get pretty mucky too. Seems that the brakes and wheels should be just fine without them but just b/c I don't see a real need for 'em doesn't mean I'm not underestimating their purpose. I don't want to find out 6 miles from home that I shoulda left 'em on. In case anyone's not sure what part I'm talking about, it's 18/9 in (bottom) this pic...
  5. Nice writeup. Saved me quite a bit of aggravation. I used a 1-1/8" 12 pt socket and didn't have to cut it up. Thanks for the write up. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  6. Looks great. What're you running off of it? Is it connected to your stator and if so, what did you use for a voltage regulator/rectifier? Sent from my KFOT using Tapatalk
  7. That's a UK company of the same name and the reason I included the address. Sent from my KFOT using Tapatalk

  9. This is *exactly* what I want from a stabilizer. I was hooping someone had an Alba that could tell me mine sucked or they all suck before I called Alba. Guess I'll just call em and see what they say. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  10. Maybe another way to describe this problem is this - if the resistance I got at setting 5 happened at setting 2 and the adjustment from there to setting 6 (as it is now) was somewhat linear, I'd be very happy with it. Unfortunately, setting 5 is a bit too light and 6 is so strong that about all 6 might be good for is drag. So, does anyone have experience with the 6 setting, rebuildable Alba Steering Stabilizer? 11. Is that 11-click stabilizer an Alba or some other brand? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  12. I wouldn't call it a "sweet spot". That would be somewhere between the 5th and 6th settings (remember 1-4 do nothing). And it's been this way since I got it. My fault for not returning it at the time. So now the question is are they (alba's) all this way? Or is it just mine? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  13. I've got an Alba Steering Stabilizer (rebuildable) w/6 dampener settings. I've been using it for 2-3 years now and its been OK. My reason for getting it was that I was tired of having my thumbs jammed when I clipped a rock (there's a lot of them on my trails). It's served it's purpose since I've installed it, I haven't jammed my thumb even once. Having said that, here's the problem; the 1st 4 settings on the stabilizer do absolutely nothing, setting 5 is barely noticable (this is where I keep it) and setting 6 it sooo tight it's dangerous to ride. I'm in the middle of a rebuild - frame up, powder coating etc. I'm looking to know if anyone has rebuilt this stabilizer and had better performance/range of adjustability or simply had better results from day 1? I'd like to know before I waste time and a few bucks rebuilding this one or if I should just break down and buy another brand?
  14. That's a great idea. Thanks. Damn shame that I just threw away my own bent one a few weeks ago
  15. Hey All, I just got my frame, steering stem and swingarm back from powder coating and the plug on the top of the stem is gone. Probably blew out in the oven. Any suggestions for filling and or replacing the cap? Thanks
  16. Yeah, that's solid peace of mind for sure. Certainly worth the price. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  17. Glad to hear you got it solved. If you don't mind me asking, what's a new harness going for? I'm in the middle of a rebuild myself. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  18. Good job. What's wrong with the OEM coil? Mine's been going strong for 17yrs ☺ Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  19. Might wanna look at this restoration video too...
  20. For what you're talking about spending, why don't you just get new plastics? If you like the original design, Maier is pretty good and there are plenty of others with their own spin on Banshee designs. Dip the piece you have and want dipped and get all shiny and new for the rest. Probably cost you less.
  21. Hey Fred, one more thing, when I first rebuilt my engine several years ago, I was lean on the jets and it pretty much ran on one cylinder too. You may be in a similar situation. I'm not familiar with the setup you're running so this is just something to keep in mind. If the thing is screaming or running a lot faster than you think it ought to be on (esp on 1 cylinder) shut it down and get a bigger main jet. Sent from my KFOT using Tapatalk
  22. I'd actually leave the plug on the non running cylinder and put another in the boot. Hang it out of the way while you start up and then bring the plug electrode to a bolt to see if you're getting a spark. Sent from my KFOT using Tapatalk
