Incoming!!!! Damn reas, hope everything makes it ok, at least you're gonna find someplace else to wait it out...

Just from the symptoms, it sounds MOST like either a failed coil, or as bigboy said a short in the wiring harness somewhere. If your ground isn't making good contact, or the wires have rubbed the frame, or a wire is loose on one of the connector terminals, you might get that intermittant spark. If it was me, I'd start by taking the coil off and seeing if a shop will bench test it. I think even the Clymer says that testing the coil with an ohmmeter isn't very definitive, that like the CDI swapping it out is the best way to know for certain, BUT if you can get someone to put it on a tester that should be about the best way to test it. If that's ok, I'd go over that wiring harness with a fine tooth comb, if every inch of wire is intact and every terminal is secure, chances are it's either the stator or CDI. If the stator tests ok and you get no spark, it's probably the CDI. The bad news is that it could still be the stator. Since I've had both fail, best I can tell you is that it sounds more like the stator (mine had a broken solder joint, that would make contact if you held it right) and less like the CDI (mine gave no prior indication of failure, it just up and quit...2 miles from home...all uphill). Good luck.

HAHA that ain't no shit, those guys were crazy fast. You were kicking ass on the ST, from what I saw there were some serious clay burners running that oval. If I can make it in October I'll find ya, I'll be running #131 this year and tryin' the keep up heh.

The dripping overflow hoses is probably either float adjustment, worn/cracked rubber tip(s) on the float needle, or possibly just a small piece of dirt on the float needle(s). The low end hesitation might be cured by just airscrew adjustment, if not you may need to go a size up or down on the mains. Don't fear the carbs, heh, they are pretty simple once you know what you're getting into, you might check out the Jetting FAQ below. Good luck.

Really? I ran Open Am in both TT & ST, went twice last year and had my ass handed to me the first time (seriously like 15th & 18th), second time I did better (3rd & 4th). Sure hope I can make that National next month...

Crazy Horse Two!!!! Hahahaha just ask Fixitrod, Banchetta and JKJK's brother Joe, damn I spent way too much damn money in that place but god damn was it worth it (night before Roostfest in March heh). Was like freakin' Disneyland for me hehe, of course it might not be quite the same unless you're half tanked on Banchetta's antifreeze concoction... Come to think of it, I don't even remember eating anything or seeing much else but the strip (crazy!), and the airport 3 times

Dam it! Who knows what they are talking about?
BenBB replied to RUNMYTA's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
You got gremlins man, try leaving a half-starved Rottweiler alone in the garage with your Banshee overnight, heh. Hmmm, coil maybe? A high-speed miss is a good symptom of a coil failure, best way to check it other than swapping it out is to take it to a shop to bench test it, perhaps you can talk that guy into checking it out at the dealership (just pull it off and take it in), while you're at it make sure the wires have a good connection at the cap & coil. Kind of a long shot given everything you've described but you never know (still doesn't really explain the lean cylinder). Good luck. -
Nice one jinx! This is one of my favorite pics, from Brashear, TX last year (look close at what I'm lookin at heh): Another more recent one from Tularosa, NM:

BenBB replied to RUNMYTA's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Runmyta, did you try any of the stuff from the other thread that Forcefed, bigbore, and boonman suggested? From what you described in the other thread, it sounds alot like either the head gasket leaking into the cylinder or fuel starvation on the left carb as those guys suggested... -
I agree with Holyman and Banchetta, could be something simple (although not always easy to find) like a wire shorted to the frame or the stator decided to give it up. You can test the stator and the coil with an ohmmeter, check out the Electrical FAQ link below, but if it's the CDI the only way to know for sure is to swap in a good one, if everything else checks out it's a definite possibility. Good luck.

Good call J.J., I didn't even think about the resistance being different on a 200W. Pjw350 since you know you got water in there, I think the stator is still the most likely problem, but one that drying out completely may cure or visually inspecting point to a problem (broken solder joint, loose wire, burnt windings, etc.). Your pickup coil tests perfect and from lookin' at 'em they look pretty waterproof so that is likely fine. Talked to Banchetta last night and he had a flywheel failure with some similar symptoms as yours, might keep that in mind IF a new stator doesn't cure the problem, unfortunately I don't know of a way to test the flywheel other than swapping it out like a CDI. Thanks for askin' J.J., I've had my hands full lately, had planned on doing the RZ conversion in August but my future ex had other plans, heh. Oh well, nothing a TT next weekend and an XC in two weeks won't cure, hope you get some ridin' in back home soon too...

Yep, zilladude is right, the two wires need to be a complete circuit to run.

need some help, don't know what the deal is?
BenBB replied to lastlegwarrior's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
God it could literally be a million things. Start with the simple stuff; you need 4 things to get it to start and run: 1. compression (ya fresh rebuild I know but just takes a few minutes to check it) 2. fuel (premixed and fresh of course, petcock "on"? pull a carb and see if the float needles are stuck-fuel in the bowls? plugs smell like gas after a half billion kicks?) 3. air (air filter clean? your old pipes not full 'o rat nests-don't laugh that shit does happen-air has to get out also) 4. and spark (at the right time-tried new plugs? spark test? check new stator resistance? that last one is also easy to do and electrical shit can ALWAYS be DOA, even new out of the box). I would disable the whole shitty TORS like Banchetta said, unplug the control box just above the left cylinder, unplug the carb tops, and disconnect the wire connectors at the e-brake and thumb throttle housing. If all of the above checks out, move on; leak-down to check bottom end seals, test ALL electricals (see the FAQ below), sacrificial offering to the Banshee gods, etc. Good luck. -
Too much resistance red to green, that's the ignition coil...quick fix would be a new stator AND make damn sure you seal that bitch up, especially that little notch on the stator housing area of the cases between the stator and countershaft sprocket. You might try letting it dry out real good (remove the stator, bring it inside, whatever) and retest it. Electrical probs can be a bitch because alot of times it will come and go, or test fine and still not work. I'm no Electrical Engineer so I don't know for sure, but the higher resistance reading may be a frayed component that shorted and fried, then left a partial connection (sounds real fookin' technical huh?)...the values are close tho so it might be ok once it's dry (ones I've tested are usually way way way off and there's no doubt that it's toast, my last one-stock unit-had a broken solder joint). Good luck.

Been having shifting trouble for a while
BenBB replied to fixitrod's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Thanks fer the post Rod, I'll hafta check mine if I ever get around to tearing her down. Funny thing, that was the ONLY goddamn thing I couldn't get loose when I split the RZ cases, they musta used some industrial strength stickum shit on that back in the day... -
Damn Runmyta, it's been a while, how the hell are ya? Racer714 listen to Runmyta, he's been running 2 into 1's a long time and would know, not that sredish and itsmyforte don't, just that dual pipes require much bigger jetting than the single (they want to make sure you're not lean and blow it up, and they are dead right, but for a 2 into 1 you won't need to start that rich). Good luck.

What Street Bike Fibers work on a Banshee?
BenBB replied to harley_sr's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Heh, I saved this post from Bigmotoxer, can't remember but I thought it was FZR600 plates, anyway I haven't tried them but thought it might help. -
RIGHT ON WALTER!!!! Hey when's the next one? Heh, I had a blast at RF, great to see your Banshee in print man.

In honor of Lefty turning 21 on sunday..
BenBB replied to Brooke's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Have a good one Lefty!! Brooke's got the plan for ya heh. Got a few stupid stories myself hehe; once on Bicardi 151, all I can remember is at one point in the night going to the fridge, and coming back to my buddies (guys and girls both) with a slice of bologna sayin' "let's play name that lunchmeat". Had a waterbed at the time and you wanna talk about nausia X 2, think I passed out in a beanbag. Another time was HS graduation, Meat reminded me about runnin' heh: was at a military school and had already been busted with a bottle of Wild Turkey 5 months prior, got completely hammered but still had all the grad ceremonies/formations/parade to go to the next day. One of the officers found me wandering the barracks in a drunken stupor and proceeded to haul me to his office, luckily he didn't know me so I bolted (knowing if caught-no diploma), across a main street somehow and into a motel parking lot, I hid under a parked car and later made my way back to my room. I do remember waking up on the floor and my grandfather laughing his ass off at me... -
Damn can't believe I forgot "Die My Darling" hehe. "Hey Hey" is another great Zeppelin song, but I think you gotta have the box set or something... NYUK what about "Hey Joe" by Hendrix?
-
I agree, either the axle splines or more likely the brake hub splines are worn (or both). If you don't have a tapered bearing carrier you SHOULD be able to tighten the axle nut enough to eliminate the movement, just be careful not to overtighten it or you will crush the spacer tube and the bearings will shell out alot faster. Good luck.

Right on N1q. Mine's ridiculously simple, my first name, middle & last initials. I've always tried to think of something cool that the two B's or all three of my initials stood for, but just had a girl tell me the best one yet, said she wanted to give me the three B's; breakfast, backrub, and a blowjob...HELL YEAH!!!

Ahhh nothing else like the HQ boys, one of those good things in life like front wheel bearings that just seems to last forever, heh. Just glad I've been along for the ride, there are some of the best people in the world right here, you guys know who you are, good times...

What the hell is up Dune-a-tic?!!?! Haha, it's been a while, good to hear from ya again.
