Ben Some of the best things in life start with a B: Banshees, Babes, and Beer

Right on Ray & Kira, best of luck to you both

Yes the yz400f is a 4-stroke, that's what Doug Henry rode back in the day when Yamaha first brought it out, they later punched the displacement up to 450 (and what 439 in the yfz450), same basic motor. I'll die happy if my Banshee is the last quad I own. I don't envy dirt bikes and I don't pity 4-strokes heh, I like what I got and shee's good to me. I could care less who can't handle one, ride what ya want...

Patriot got my vote, but nothing against anyone else, some really good names listed here and they turn out some fine work. But I will say that I'm more than happy with what Dan did with my RZ jugs, and he's an awesome guy to deal with, thanks man I appreciate it!!!

Allright now we're talkin, heh. Sredish, I'm not so sure top speed and mass hp is gonna make or break Baja, I think reliability and consistency play a bigger role. That and who's got the biggest fuel tank, heh. 1000 miles and 40 hours is gonna take it's toll... Right on Meat, we're gonna need all the help we can get, but any chance you can make it over here? I mean, I'll do whatever I can for anyone that can get close. I know I can get ahold of a 4-door F250 so if some guys want to fly into El Paso, TX or anywhere between Roswell and the starting line, I can pick 'em up. I'll have a gooseneck trailer and maybe a big enclosed one by then so I can definitely haul some quads too... How many riders? I like Big Blues' idea, the more the better BUT the entry fee is gonna hold us back, we need to find out if that price is per individual rider or for a team... Who's riding ? We got 3 for certain right? Me, Scott and Mike. I'm sure I can get Chris (ridingorhiding), Josh (ABM-Banshee) and our WOR teammate Jason to ride as well, and possibly Dustin (warwgn). For a 40-hour race I think the more the better, even with a 6-gal tank we'll need to pit a Banshee roughly every 2-3 hours, if we swap riders at the same time, we could have as many as 20 guys in the saddle on different sections... Where\how we gonna build a baja banshee? Good question, we got options right now, we can build one from scratch or use one of our own. I'm down for either, and I'm offering mine if that's what we decide on but it's certainly not set in stone. chase team members? We got a few now, here again the more the better I think. parts donations? Anything off my quad is fair game. sponsorships? I listed mine, anybody else? I have a good letter drafted for sponsorship requests (at least it has worked for me so far, heh), so if anyone knows who I should send one to for the Baja effort, speak up. chase vehicles? Same as above, couple guys spoke up, anyone else? spare parts? Same as above, anything I got (not a whole helluva lot lol) is on the table. Don't write it off so soon fro, it's a year away, how the hell do you know what you're doing next November?! Heh.

Aw c'mon J.J., ya got a year to plan it, you know you want to... Right on txblueshee, I got a cooler, who's got the beer?! Sounds great Big Blue, BansheeHQ invades Baja...I can see it now...
-
Good idea rebel, hmmm here's an idea; an HQ project bike, start with a beater, everyone puts in what they can, then we raffle it off to those who participate after the race...or have NYUK chop it and double our money heh. If we are buildin' a bike from parts that we'll get back, anything on mine is fair game, and I hope to have the RZ motor done this winter. And BTW, since there's no Roostfest 2005, mark yer calendars boys, this is gonna be at least one of the big HQ get-togethers if we make it happen...
-
Bigboy: I'm offering to use mine. Dunedemon: dead serious, if it wasn't for the entry fee I'd have already been down there... Meat where you at? Tats you down for tha trip?! Evil, Blue Deuce, Yamahammer, anyone else, who's down????

I'm there. The entry's a little stiff but I can pitch in some, one of my current sponsors is my employer, heh, so I can count on a truck & trailer to get there, probably either a 4-door or a single cab 1-ton...can pick from a 20' bumper-pull trailer, 28' gooseneck, or a little 5x8 Haulmark, well by next year I may have access to a 7x16 enclosed. Got another sponsor for fuel, at least enough of a sponsorship to get my truck there and back, and possibly enough fuel for the Banshee (pump gas tho)... One other sponsor will likely kick down with a hundo or two for the entry fee. I also have a couple discount sponsors that might help if anyone is building a baja bike; 15% off PRM Products, 15% or maybe more off Twin Air filters, Dan @ Patriot hooked me up most awesomely but not sure if he'd extend it to others, and might have Works and Clarke by next year. A couple of my Wide Open Racing teammates also have gotten discounts from SFB, Elka, and Jannsen but I don't know the details. Anyway, can't commit 100% that my RZ Banshee will be ready (still need an LR crank) but either way we can count on my Banshee for the race, for part or all of it. I bet I could talk ridingorhiding, ABM-Banshee, and our teammate Jason into making it there, possibly with their quads, anyone know how it works? Like can we trade off quads or not?

Speedi Sleeves work great. We use them occasionally on heavy equipment here, and the tractor lines we sell sometimes offer them OEM...probably the most common application is on a crankshaft rear main seal, but not sure if I'd trust it not to leak on a Banshee crank (not saying it wouldn't work).
-
Indoob, naw I think you're right, stock they aren't all that fast, but I don't think they're a piece either...just ask Doug Gust heh. Unless he sinks a few grand in it, take him to the dunes and he'll see, don't think his Z will give your Banshee too much comp...and it's always nice to have a thumper around in case you need to get towed back to camp lol!

Ahhh that was great. The ruler is my personal favorite hehe

Oh well shock covers that changes everything , heh j/k. Mix the oil to what the oil manufacturer recommends, if it says it's ok to run at 50:1 that will work...IF you're jetted for it. When you change ratios it will affect the air/fuel ratio and hence the jetting will be affected. There isn't really a right or wrong oil ratio, just different oils, 32:1 is probably the most common but people will run anything from 20:1 to 100:1 (with the appropriate oil).

Bigboybanshee is dead on, invest in a Clymer and dive in man. If you've got fuel and spark, all you need is air and compression to make it run...but if low compression is the problem I would get in there and replace all the seals while you're at it. Good luck.

Ok scoped out the online microfiche, hard to tell but it looks like that switch works off the lever and not hydraulic pressure, so you should be able to just remove it. If there's any doubt about losing brake fluid, back it out slowly and see if any brake fluid comes out (I don't think it will). BTW welcome to the HQ. Now post some pics of you and your Banshee! Hehe j/k

Right on Ducman, congratulations! A dune trip to remember, heh, that's cool.

Right on Fixitrod, BTW my shift shaft had just skipped on the shift star nubs, just had to pull the clutch cover & shift lever to move it out a little and it recentered. Anyway, BradDaMan, this might not be relavent, but there's an outside chance that just moving the shift lever up or down a spline will improve your shifting (of course it won't if something is fucked up inside). From what you described it almost sounds like the shaft itself may be bent and gets in a bind sort of when you try to shift...
-
Brake light switch probably, my '96 doesn't have one so not sure how it works exactly (don't know if all the fluid will pour it if you remove it heh)...but then the brake light wouldn't light up when you hit the fronts...
-
I'm running Skat-Trak Hauler Extremes and love 'em, along with Mohawks on the front. I've never had anything but excellent service from Skat-Trak, those are some great guys to deal with. Never tried Edges but like led said, they are supposed to be a good all-around paddle...I drag some and trail ride and no complaints with the Haulers, they damn sure hook up.

Heh, Ozzy's got one, Trick Daddy now, Kid Rock was on one in Mexico w/Jesse James, anyone see that episode of "Ride with Funkmaster Flex" where he rode a KFX400? He shoulda been on a Banshee. I'd like to see what West Coast Customs could do to one (Pimp my Ride), but I know they wouldn't touch the motor lol! And that's half the fun...
-
Guess I'll tear up this $27k check then LOL!

Going to 34's...damn JKJK what you been doing to that beast?
-
Antwa, if the jetting wasn't changed and it's running rich now, it may need to be rejetted...it's summertime in the southern hemisphere now isn't it? If the air temps are higher now than the last time it ran perfect, you may need to drop a size on your main jets. Be careful going leaner though, as it's an easy way to cause some damage. It almost sounds like the shop just tried leaning out the airscrews to try and overcome the rich condition, that may be why it's more sensitive now to revving up (lean) when you turn off the fuel petcock. So if it was mine I'd dial in the mains and then adjust the airscrews (going by how it idles and responds right off idle, NOT how it idles up when you turn off the fuel). Good luck.

I've spent hours poring over those pics Meat, that RZ Banshee is tits. Baja 500/1000 is on my short list of races I want to hit someday, along with Pike's Peak and some National TT's. I used to live in Parker, AZ where they run the Parker 400, not sure if SCORE still does it but I always wanted to check it out... I'd be all over an HQ Baja effort. I'm sure ridingorhiding, ABM-Banshee and the rest of Wide Open Racing would be willing to pitch in too. Hell with my Patriot RZ motor/tranny, ridingorhiding's long travel Elkas all the way around, Meat's monster fuel tank and Jason's insane riding ability, it would be a hell of a good time just being on the pit crew, and swappin' riders and/or machines along the way would be a blast. Let's go to Mexico!!!
