  1. Like most places, Rampart was great until everyone and their brother started going. Best advise is to go during the middle of the week. That place was never designed for quads, I have had so many close calls on my bike with on coming 4x4 quads and the trails are mostly single track with very little room to pass. It's a great place to ride, just not on weekends and holidays.
  2. Not so far fetched on the price. I have looked at having custom items injection molded and have had quotes come back up to $60,000 (depending on the part). It takes machined steel molds that cost a ton of money to have produced. Company's like Mair and Clarke have to look at the return on their investment and to be fair I think most would argree that the Banshee would not provide a good return being that it is no longer available in the U.S. (new that is). I still think it's a worth wild project and am interested in what you come up with. Keep us posted.
  3. Hell, What happened to the front left a-arms? Not sure I would trust my life to that.
  4. I try to have an extra set of filters and switch them out after two days in the sand. You'll notice some really fine silt in your carb boots after about three days of hard sand riding. K&N filters are nice as far as air flow (that's what I run) but they don't seem to catch as much small stuff as the old foam filters.
  5. That's pretty much what I figured but thought with your background you could confirm it. Thanks.
  6. [Also one thing people don't think about, if your drivers license is suspended or revoked, you are NOT allowed to ride/drive/operate ANYTHING on OR offroad. That includes ATV's. Hey Matt, how would this apply to kids under the legal age to have a license ? Couldn't they technically keep them from ridding?
  7. As long as you have a current bike registration sticker from your home state you do not need to buy the Ca. sticker.
  8. Buttercup - 99% of our trips are spent there. I call it the sand dunes for grown ups. Gordons well - I end up crashing almost everytime I ride over there, its a good place but just some bad voodoo for me personally. Glamis - Was great when I was in my twenties, ok in my thirties, and no way in hell you'll catch me there on a big weekend now that I hit fourty. I just can't drink that much any more.
  9. They recently built a hotel/casino near the Algadones exit (right off of I-8). If you stayed there you would be no more then ten to fifteen minutes from Gordons and Buttercup.
  10. Did you mis-place your bike too? Just take the measurements off of the frame, or buy a cheap stock grab bar.
  11. I played around with different lengths by stretching the stock swingarm. Started at +2 then +4 and finally settled on a +3 and really liked it so I had a nice round house carrier style made to that length.
  12. Nice bike!! I like how you converted the stock swingarm to a roundhouse carrier.
  13. Here is something that does not get mentioned much and that's a neck brace. I just returned from Buttercup where I had a huge crash into a witches eye, went head first 8 feet down into a hole. My neck brace saved my life and in my opinion is what makes a helmet work to its full potential. I ended up with a broken collar bone and several bruised ribs but would have been much worse without the neck brace. Just my 2 cents.
  14. I like the look of that, you might want to just weld on some mounting tabs and do away with the tube clamps.
  15. You have to cut behind the shock mount in order to keep the angle of the shock the same.
  16. Did this one a while back, a little over built but better safe than sorry.
  17. I think I'll end up buying a whole bike form Josh in pieces. ----- Thanks for another smooth transaction and great part.
  18. What these guys said, $2500 - $3000 . What I would do is replace some of the high dollar aftermarket parts with nice stock stuff like your shocks and a-arms, sell that stuff and you should still be able to get $2500 for the bike. Then sell the few aftermarket parts --- should in the end put you closer to what you want dollar wise.
  19. I think you would be better off to do away with the key all together or re-locate it under the seat. If you are determined to incorporate it into the riser I would get with JD from JDS customs and have him make you up something. http://www.jdscustoms.com/
  20. These guys have some nice quality made lights and a huge selection. http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_lights.htm
  21. Thanks Badbar --- Joe.kent pm me if I can help you out.
  22. The only time my wife steps into my domain is to bring me a sandwich or beer, she's usually pretty busy cooking and cleaning inside the house but every once in awhile I'll have her tidy up the shop.
  23. I would go with anodizing. It goes into the metal instead of just coating it so it is less prone to chipping and scratching. How long it sets in the tank will determine how far the color will penatrate into the metal. The only other consideration between powdercoating and anodizing might be your budget.
  24. I just welded a large fender onto the frame.
