  1. Im pushing 160 and the end on my compression gauge isnt as long as the spark plug threads so I figure 165. Before this I had stock carbs, non ported cylinders. These are ported for the stroke. If Im rich why are my plugs dry and white
  2. Do you think its possible that I need to run high test. The regular pump gas has gotten real bad around here, low octane like 91 tops cause they try to push that corn gas shit off on everyone by staying one point higher and 10 cents a gallon cheaper.I have access to plenty of race gas but didnt think it was going to be necessary.
  3. I guess I'll just put the 165's back in and work from there. There's no way that can be lean. I dont even have pods on it yet,I had to rig up one of those toomey 2 into 1's so I had it filtered so if anything it should be restricting airflow or so I would think.
  4. I dont know yet, set my pickup gap and took it out to check the jetting and the county sheriff showed up so I had to split quick.I really think Im lean.
  5. Just took it out after setting the pickup gap to .015 and its doing the same thing. It might also be popping at the top. No improvement and dont want to burn it up.
  6. When doing a burn down/ plug chop should you continue to keep the throttle pinned after you kill the motor and pull the clutch or doesnt it matter. Seems to me you would want to let off or it would still draw fuel but not burn it until the motor wound down.
  7. Depends on the type of riding you do I guess. They look good but sometimes your going to want to get the front end up to go over obstacles and such if you do trails.
  8. beray makes good products and there is probably no reason to switch if you have had good luck with it, I just prefer Klotz and type F in the tranny.
  9. Try engine brite made by Gunk I think, made mine look like brand new.
  10. Sounds to me like your set up pretty good. Maybe a set of carbs?
  11. I know about the traction ,thats not my problem right now. Those are good vids and I'll see about the clutch after I get it running right.I did a leakdown test for about a half hour and it didnt leak at all.Thanks.
  12. No, Im not using any spacers anywhere, stroker domes. The porting was done for the stroke and at BDC the exhaust and all transfers are perfectly inline with the edge of the pistons, No edge at all.
  13. Just checked the pickup gap and I have .035. That might be it. Gearing is 14-41 on little 18 inch rears. There was no need to do a plug chop because with the 160's the plugs were as white as can be, just glad there was none of that pretty melted aluminum on them.I did think I would be rich though. Needle is CGL which I put on the bottom clip and I think that is the same as the CEL on the middle clip but have been wrong before. If it warms up today Im going to take it out and try it with the tighter pickup gap.
  14. It revs clean, no sputter or popping or anything, just low reving. I wouldnt even say it pulls hard till mid but not too bad,its hard to say because I have to shift so soon to keep it in what power it has. Its like its falling flat right before where I think it should be getting on the pipe and taking off. I would guess its my jetting but I have made so many changes to this bike all at once I dont know. Ive read that someone had problems with there pickup being too far away from the flywheel but I dont see how thats even adjustable.
  15. I guess my squish is ok, I thought that sounded excessive but from looking it up on the search Its alright. I originally put 165 mains in and figured Id be way rich so I put 160's in and tried it and was way lean then bumped to 162's and am still a little lean so I'll try the 165's tomorrow .Hope they work because they are the biggest ones I have. Its a bitch because its been going from like 35 degrees to 65 degrees throughout the day here for the last couple days.
  16. Mine is too...a dog.
  17. If it doesnt have Kibblewhite valves with titanium retainers I wouldnt buy it.
  18. Im running the 21 cc domes and I built this to run pump gas, Ive got good cranking compression and everything else is either new or in excellent condition. Carbs are super clean,in sync, I am a little lean on the mains. Get this though, I got about .040-.043 squish. Thats too much isnt it. I was so concerned about having a air leak I put a thin coat of yamahabond on both sides of the cylinder base gaskets and I knew I shouldnt have done it when I did it, That would be enough to throw the squish off but would it make it run that way?
  19. My compression is at 165psi. Pro circuit pipes, Trinity mx port 130 degree transfers, 190 degree exhaust. Which Ive been told isnt the best port job but it shouldnt be this bad. I wondered about the clutch slipping but its hard to tell Its new one from Jeff at F.A.S.T but he gave me the light springs. Even if it was slipping the motor should wind up.
  20. I finally got the 01 back together and took it out today to do some dialing in and am not very impressed with it. I have never rode a stroker so I dont know what I should have expected but it seems like a turd. It seems like I have to short shift it through all the gears because it doesnt seem to wind up. I dont know if my pipes are holding it back or the porting is wrong or what but I know Its worse than with the stock stroke. How is it supposed run compared to a stock stroke non ported? I had hopes of not being able to keep the front end down but I guess thats not a problem. Mods in sig.
  21. I didnt say they were junk carbs, there not but the paticular ones that I have suck.I'm having problems getting my idle set how I want it, The idle/choke knob doesnt change anything, I have to set my slides up higher than I wanted to. Actually when I turn one of the knobs it feels kind of rough so Ill take them apart today and check it out. Another thing that has me worried now is last night I cut my new fuel lines and installed the clear inline fuel filters like the ones Jeff sells and noticed that It somehow runs the lines between the carbs and filters and the filters dry but the fuel is there in the lines between the filters and the tank? its screwed up.
  22. Just so everyone knows, PJ's suck!
  23. A good port job will run three bills on up, you need pipes to match the porting and bigger carbs, intakes to fit the bigger carbs, better reeds, etc, etc, etc.
  24. Right on, if the rain stops I'll go out and get muddy.
  25. My mods are in sig, I have CGL needles on the middle position right now, 48 pilots, and 165 mains. I know Im really fat on the mains but Im not worried about that yet, Im 1 1/2 turns out on the air screws just for starters, carbs are in sync. Most people say run a CEL on the middle position but It seems like Im rich already, I dont know but it smokes quite a bit (32:1 Techniplate).Starts first kick every time with no choke @ 45-50 degrees and idles great. Runs like shit. Real doggy from 1/4-3/4 then trys to kick in a bit then eats its own ass after that(mains).I think a CGL on the 5th position is the same as a CEL on the middle but Im not sure and that would just richen it up anyway. What should I try or look for to get the pilot circuit set and how do you know when to move to a different pilot jet?Where should I safely start on the mains? I have them all from 145-165. About 1400 ft and 50 degrees. Pods on it right now but might go back to open airbox.
