if you do a search you may find a picture that way.. basically you take and cut the tips of the star.. instead of being tall and pointy, you make them low and rounded over the top... you will notice there are pins sticking out of the side of the star, i usually cut the points of the star down to where they are 1/16" or so above these pins.. hope that makes sense.. you can use a bench grinder.. its very easy to do..

yea no shit, my buddy nate is prolly get'n tired of helping me take this hunk of shit apart.. lol.. this thing sounds different, i gotta tel ya.. not sure how to describe it really.. but its all good now.. its even better than it was before..

if you look closer, that is a aftermarket mono block cylinder. looks like a trex to me (sleeved).. those extra ports are called tripple exhaust ports, my cub has them also.. i assume it helps with exhaust flow and scavenging..
-
finally got the time to finish the cub.. had to replace a bad tranny bearing, then the clutch basket cushions were trashed.. got everything replaced and back together, its running smoth now.. also rejetted the carbs and did some needle adjusting.. now the mid range is a lot better, it was a little rich.. nice and crisp..also bought some sprockets and got it geared about how i want.. now i just need to see how well it will do at the drags.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN A DIY BANSHEE PORTING TUTORIAL
sheerider1026 replied to blowit's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
hmmm.. i would be interested in learning more about it.. i have dones some porting of my own with great results.. there is always more to learn. pm me with details -
the porting looks good. i would not be afraid to let you cut on a set of jugs for me.. doing your homework is what it is all about.. cutting metal is one thing, but knowing how much and where to cut is the key (knowledge as you stated) .. having some base lines and understanding what does what is going to make a big difference in making a set of cylinders scream, or making them paper weights. the port timings you are using should make the bike a fun all around bike.. i think you will be happy (and proud) of the outcome.. the first set of juggs i did where low on compression, so i ported them, bolted them back on to see the results BEFORE i sent them off for a fresh bore.. the porting alone made it feel better than a bike with a fresh topend (it was low on psi). then after i got them bored it was a runner for sure.. some of the guys that went to the badlands seen the bike run.. i am using t5's 19cc domes, single carb, and fmf reeds with +5 timing.. its a strong running bike all around.. good luck and let us know how it runs.
-
i can't remember what the timings where on them.. i have it wrote down somewhere.. it was very mild, i did widen more than raise the ports. it runs very good the way it is..
-
looks good man, how did she run?? the next set that i port will get 188 on the exhaust, and 128 on the tranfers, should be a good running bike all-around..
-
i am running 19cc's in my bike. i am about 600ft also.. my compression is around 165-170.. i am running +5 timing and 93 pump gas.. stock crank, not welded.. it runs good.. like dave said, 19's would be as low as i would go also..

over heating need some help guys
sheerider1026 replied to heater's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
you are definately having some issues here.. i am running 19cc domes with +5 timing on 93 octane.. to me, this is like getting away with murder.. it sounds like everything is outta wack, compression/timing is too high, and your jetting could be lean.. back the timing back down to +4 and see what happens. maybe you are jetted too lean also.. check your jetting. if you still get deto, run some bigger CC domes.. good luck. -
nope. it has a different sealing surface shape.. i am almost positive that a stock banshee head will not work.. i have done my share of research on converting over to a rz setup.. needless to say, i still have the stock cylinders.
-
yep, looks like she froze and cracked.. i would inspect the rest of the coolant system for cracks (cylinders, radiator).. the rz head is different from the banshee head.. if you do not have the electronics for the powervalve system, i would get some banshee cylinders and get rid of all your problems.. a good set of ported banshee cyinders will do great.. good luck.
-
to check compression.. tkae both plugs out, screw your gauge into one cylinder, hold throttle wide open, and keep kicking until the gauge will not go any higher,, repeat process for the other cylinder..
-
what intake and carb is on that bike?? only 2 things that i know cause cracks, hot and cold.. did the engine overheat?? or maybe the coolant froze during the winter due to lack of antifreeze??
-
uhh. no. break in, is the process of the NEW rings seating (or developing a smotth wear pattern) against the freshly bored cylinder.. once an engine is brok in the rings and cylinder have worn to fit together with a tight seal and a smooth precise fit.. if you do not rebore your cylinders (or hone) and install new rings, there is no reason to do the break-in process.. you can take the motor apart a hundred times, and unless you are replacing pistons, rings, there is no need to do the break in process..
-
check the compression, then check for fuel and spark.. those 3 things are all the motor needs to run.. peace!
-
dont underestimate the wooley booger bike!! with just a single carb and a port job i did myself it runs dam good.. ask the guys that went to the badlands ride.. i was amazed with this bike..

i dont wanna run race gas anymore!
sheerider1026 replied to steenasbanshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
that head will be just fine, the higher the dome cc number=less compression.. get a compression tester and check your compression.. hell you might not even have to run race gas with the way it is.. maybe the guy just told you that as a sales pitch.. gotta check that compression with a gauge first,, then check back with us.. i would say 160ish and under is ok for 93 octane.. -

sheerider1026 replied to steenasbanshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
check your compression.. and your timing.. high compression and high timing are what cause the need for race gas.. drop the compression and timing and you can use pump gas.. does it have a cool head?? -
kinda like the wooley boogers huh?? they hook like sumbitch though!!!
-
i have a g force axle as well. its on my trail banshee (blue wooly booger bike!! LOL) .. i love it.. its strong, nice looking, cheap, and has a great warranty.. whats not to like???

yea, i wish i would have went. but i had plenty of work to do around the house and all.. yea, im definately bringing the cub up to haspin, i just got home and im fixin to crack it open, thow those new bearings in, and get this bitch back together.. i hope these 4 snows give me some decent traction, i haven't been able to make this thing hook anywhere.. either way it will be a blast for sure..
