After reading Loco's thread about cheap porting I wanted to get in my .02 without hijacking the thread. So...................... Jim at Passion Racing Engines did my porting and I couldn't be happier with the results. I did have to wait a LONG time to get the cylinders back and it wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. He has alot of experience and gets alot of referrals based on performance. Another thing that stands out with me is the customer service. He has always been willing to take the time to explain things to me....... even AFTER THE SALE. But, probably the best quality he posesses is honesty. I didn't want my cylinders bored if they could go one more season, so he was gonna check the cylinders and let me know if they needed to be bored or not. I didn't hear from him again till they were ready. When he called to say they were done he said there was a problem when he was working on them and he had to bore them .02 over. He said it was his fault and he charged me nothing for the bore work. Then he told me he was inclucing the pistons as well. He could have lied and said the bores were worn out and needed to be bored. I would have done that work without hesitation and he knew that. I'm sure there are other honest guys out there, but you just never know till you are dealing with them how you will be treated. I'm glad that I didn't go cheap on the porting of my cylinders ! Passion Racing Engines

Marine, that sticker is great ! I have never put stickers on my ride but I just might have to this time.

Hell yeah !!!!!!!! Those are the costs that are truly to blame right there ! ^^^^^^^^^ All the greediness from the execs, whether it be the banks, big insurance, auto makers, CONGRESS, etc...... is what got us all into this mess for sure. Also, alot of people want to blame this shiat on Bush and Co., but all of this has been building for many years. Neither Bush or any other president will have the power to control CONGRESS. Those crooks just let this all happen because they got to ride with the top guy from GM in his private jet to meet with the top guys from AIG for an all expense paid trip to the best resorts in ST. Maarten a dozen times a year. Then that CONGRESS guy got paid to vote for whatever was in the best interest of his hosts ! How in the world do we get that sort of crap to end ?

Hell yeah. I believe that the economy is screwed anyway. The congressional bunch was looking into whether or not to bail out the automakers right before AIG and others got their multi million dollar bail out money (gifts). I believe that they were finding that there wouldn't be enough left for the automakers. A quote from a news report reads : "With lingering troubles at AIG and other firms, the federally-sponsored Wall Street bailout, initially priced at $700 billion to save a host of troubled mortgage lenders, investment banks and firms, now appears to be only the tip of the iceberg. When combined with other government relief efforts, the figure climbs close to $2.5 trillion, according to Bailout Sleuth, a website that is tracking the funding. Fannie Mae, which was seized by the federal government and placed in a conservatorship Sept. 6 along with Freddie Mac, said it might need more than the $100 billion in funding originally pledged by the U.S. Treasury to stay alive." Sad that we dont have the funds to help those that could impact us the most. They should have given all the bailout money to US familys. 700 billion would have meant aproximately 300k to each taxpaying family. We all would have paid off our mortgages, auto loans, other debts, and most would have had enough left to bank. That would have really flooded the economy with cashflow and all the little guys would be in a better place too. Instead we gave away all that money to those that F_CKED us in the first place. I'm just saying enough is enough !!!!!! Why the hell don't we imprison the crooks that did this, reclaim their ill-gotten proceeds, and use that money to correct this problem first ?

You might still be lean if it feels better with chokes on. Just do yourself a favor and read those plugz. Follow directions for plug chop. That way you know for sure ! -
The top of the pistons don't look bad. That does not mean the pistons are still good ! The pistons need to be measured with a micrometer to see if they are still round enough to use(.001-.002 inch). The cylinders need to be inspected with a bore gage for the same thing. My guess it that you will need to bore/hone to the next .25mm

thats sum bullshiat Sinister !! LOL

See, I knew i was still all wet behind the ears. LOL

Anyone else hear about AIG's bailout party ? Seems that right after the bailout, AIG executives had a big weeklong retreat at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, Calif. to the tune $443,000. Why the hell did we give these crooks any more money to squander ??? :: And where the hell is our Congressional oversight committee when this kind of bullshiat is going on !! Prolly right there with them huh ?

Where is this ? That is a good price ! I agree with Dave that the prices are gonna climb back up soon. Not to sure bout the supply and demand, but I did hear that Opec is slowing production to try to get the prices back up. They are all starting to get scared that they will soon be in poverty. LOL I guess if they arent making 300 bilion/quarter it will put a damper on their island vacation plans.

Yeah, what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^ Never heard of a 6mm crank. Also have not seen anyone testing quad hp at crank. (Maybe I just havent been around long enough) It's gotta be ported. Unless the whole thing is bullshit, I just cant see someone doing that much engine work without doing some serious porting.

That is badass !! I want onea them 1000cc beasts on my Banshee !

you need to ride it and read the plugs. 162 seems pretty rich to me. I have 160s in my 4mil and it is pretty rich at 50-60 degrees. What temp and elevation are you running and what are you using for air filters ? -
how are they gonna rotate with the guide pin in the piston to keep them in place ? There just isn't that much play in them once compressed into the bore.
-
Too funny ! That guy is a f*cking moron ! He got launched pretty damn hard. The guy shooting the video just sits there and keeps rolling the film. What a Friend....... LOL :yelrotflmao:

Glamis is definately better than buttercup if youre into partying !!! If you are just seriously into duning, Gordon's Well or Buttercup (off of I-8 just outside of Yuma) is better. There are some really big/steep bowls and dunes near the mexican border. Not to say there isn't any good riding at Glamis. But, when we do a "guys" trip (no wife and kids) always go to Glamis.

You can get a port job that will be alot stronger than stock and still pretty reliable. Call Jeff at FAST, Kevin Herr, Jim at Passion, and any other builders that others here recommend. Tell them what you want and they will help you decide what is best for your riding style. Keep havin fun with it. We all gotta start somewhere !
-
I agree with Ben. If you are concerned just get a compression tester and check it yourself. He may not have even checked it right or had a good tester. Bottom line..... If the frame and suspension is in decent shape it's a good deal even if you have to have the topend rebuilt.
-
You might check that little drain screw that intersects the overflow tube I had one leaking there once after a rebuild. Just didn't get it clean enough in the seat area. If thats not it, you may have a bad float. I had one get a little leak in the seam and it would get some fuel inside making it a little heavier. It would not let the seat to close all the way, especially after hitting alot of bumps.
-
Yeah, what Sinister said !!!!!!!! You can get BR8ES plugs from O'riley's for half the cost at a bike shop (no shit).
-
prolly have a bad needle/seat at the inlet.
-
Start with clip in the center groove and work from there. Get the idle mix and speed syncrinized first. Then check main at wot......plug chop. Then adjust clip position if needed.
-
Search this forum, use keyword: purge There are kits you can buy to make it a little easier.

Sorry, didn't mean to put u But, Yeah, the manual is really helpful. Also, Try calling A&A Cycle. They are on S.E. 15th in OKC. They have almost always had what I need (mostly stock parts) on the shelf. Bailed me out a few times. (405) 634- 4033
