  1. When I mean internals, I mean the valving. All the compression adjustments are in the resevoir. Yes that changes, but the valving itself is the same. As far as Elkas valved by someone else, I agree with you there, thats what I'd do If i had the money (funny how its always "if I had the money"), but I was talking about from the company. I wonder if you can just buy the raw shock body from elka, and not even have them do anything in the first place? I've seen a guy with the fox shocks, but I didn't get to talk to him. Id like to see some diagrams of them, see exactly how they work. Natalie won the championship on them, so they can't be awful.
  2. Well first off, having all the adjustments in the world is not a replacement for a properly valved shock. With a well valved and sprung shock, you really shouldn't have to adjust anything. The adjustments should be a fine tuning tool, to help extract that last little bit of performance. Elka has decided that they need to have the most adjustable shocks on the planet, so that it can help mask their valving problems. Elka is starting to become exactly what Works has been for a long time. You can still get some "custom" shocks directly from Elka, but mainly all they do is build a couple different types of shocks for the retailer, and thats what you get. 2 different MX shocks, one for heavy people, and one for light weight people. They've gotten too big for their own good. So they make the shocks super adjustable, market that as a huge benefit, when in reality it is just making up for their shortcomings. Now Im not saying they aren't any better than works, they are WAY better, in both performance and quality. But I would take Axis, PEP, or TCS over Elka any day of the week. Elka marketed themselves to where they are now. Give out tons of sponsorships, get everyone to use your shocks, and the masses will follow, cuz everyone just says Elkas the best. Go and look at exriders.com suspension forum. Elka is the only reply you get over there any more, theres even some trying to say Elka is the best bar none. I've ridden different setups, for riders close to my own weight, and the while the Elka setups performed well, they didn't feel near as refined. I've talked to several shock builders on the net, and they all feel that Elkas valving program is not as good as others. TCS has their shit together, but since they don't give their stuff out to everyone, people don't think their as good. Oh, and Elka has the exact same internals in all their shocks. And you can get TCS without rezzies for just a little more cash than the bargain Elkas. Ok, thats my rant, my view of everything.
  3. Ethanol mixes with gas, but I don't think methanol will mix well if it will at all.
  4. Mixed reviews are enough for me to stay away from it. If it worked well like it was supposed to, then there wouldn't be mixed reviews. Most people would be happy and satisfied, and a couple would have some problems. The fact that so many people that I've heard with it didn't like it, makes me think its not that great. And the people that didn't have any problems either managed to get it working well enough for their setup, or simply didn't know enough to know that it wasn't working that well.
  5. Thats my opinion too. Sure those pills might do something, but all in all, I think its a load of crap that was made up to make more money. If you need a pill to make you feel better, its the same thing as any other drug (coke, pot, alcohol, whatever). Just this one is legal, and prescribed by the doctor, so it must be okay for you. Take yourself a vacation, go riding for a weekend.
  6. I would throw the stockers back on and save your good tires if you can. Ive heard of some places that won't let you run the 1/4 without drag tires (only 1/8). Course last time I was at the track here there was a guy with a shee that made a 119 mph pass on bald stockers.
  7. A new quad? No, im kidding though. The track here requires gloves, leather or otherwise racing type jacket, and long pants. Possibly boots too, not sure though. Tires don't matter. It changes from track to track. I would plan on having gloves and a leather jacket though.
  8. Well Im sick of my old grill, so Im about to make a new one. The way I look at it, metal is cheap, and I have the tools available, so I make my own. Heres the pattern Im thinking of, a warped checkerboard. I think it will good when I get done, but who knows.
  9. Cuz their free? Which makes me think, I wonder how many pros are running the valving that elka sent their shocks with, and I wonder how many had someone else valve the shocks for them. My vote is TCS, they impressed me more than the elka setups Ive ridden.
  10. Thats what I was thinking, dude had to spend $100 to get new plugs? Hell, he deserved it then.
  11. If your only drag racing, aluminum would be lighter. Titanium is strong and lighter than steel, but aluminum is still much lighter.
  12. Therese a few places that I know of in SC that aren't too far from that. TNT motorsports or something like that is one. It has an MX track and quite a few miles of trails. Theres another place right near the border that hosts one of the GNCCs, but I can't remember the name of it. I'll look online and let you know later.
  13. Yeah, but your still stuck in the airport. Congrats on the laptop, hope yours treats you better than mine did me.
  14. Stock should be close to 130. And don't get a cheap guage or you might get a reading thats not even close.
  15. I can see it now [announcer voice]Introducing the all new 2 stroke powered Yamaha Exciter. For pleasure you've only dreamed of![/announcer voice]
  16. I wouldn't do it in your bare feet, I cracked a bone in my foot kicking in sandles. But yeah, I would get a compression tester, sounds like you should rebuild.
  17. As for the license how old are you? Last I heard, NC wasn't that bad on licenses, so you could probably get a license there. And what part of NC are you in? Im in SC, and know of a few places that wouldn't be too long of a drive if you were in southern NC.
  18. phazer, exciter, sounds like star wars. I guess you'll have to excuse those of us that live where it doesn't snow.
  19. Well Ive seen a guy do 119 at the local drag strip, on his way to a 10 flat quarter mile. He was beating crotch rockets all night long. Only a couple busa's could beat him. Course I bet he's glad there weren't any KX500s there, he might have gotten beat
  20. I wholeheartedly agree. mattwpissylittlegirl, You don't like us, get the fuck out
  21. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't talk though since I must not be able to do a pull up
  22. Intake plate for open airbox, or pods for no airbox - $100 pipes - $500 porting $300 carbs $400 timing plate - $35 shaved head < $100 total < $1500 (probably right at $1000 if you search for good deals) and you should easily be over 60 hp. Nearly double a stock banshee.
  23. My opinion, the guy comes on here asking what size cubs he should get. Who better to talk to than a person that actually builds cub motors. I know I would rather talk to an engine builder than a bunch of people on a forum.
  24. Hmm, well I did a reverse lookup on his address, and it came up with a listing for Maralyn Occhiuto (age 46) at that address. Did he sound like a kid? Oh, and he's on yfzcentral too (he was there this morning). His email address: [email protected] He posted his phone numbers on yfzcentral too. 631 270 4089 -- home number Im guessing, but it doesn't match his address. 917 309 8243 -- cell phone number
  25. Hmm, well I did a reverse lookup on his address, and it came up with a listing for Maralyn Occhiuto (age 46) at that address. You have any idea how old he is?
