421 cheetah cub 68 bore need exhaust

421 cheetah cub 68 bore need exhaust
dajogejr replied to midospike's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
You bought a drag race motor, give it drag race pipes. take it from me, I tried using stock carbs and T5s on a 421 cub motor...waste of time. I mean...it's got a drag port on it...why choke it down. If you dune more than drag, get CPI pipes. If you drag more than dune, get Shearer pipes. I'm not a fan or 2 into 1 carbs for Cheetah or Cub motors. Kind of pointless if you ask me. If you're gonna keep it on gas, a pair of 35PWKs or Mikunis will do just fine. Do you plan on running race gas or pump fuel? -
Motor woes - right side piston/rod damage
dajogejr replied to tgbanshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I guess I should've went to Wiseco's site..I always reference Magic racing, they don't have the .010 on their site... Thanks for the correction!! http://www.wiseco.com/PDFs/Catalogs/CB07/YamahaATV.pdf -
ESPECIALLY since he said dunes, sand puts more load and suck more power (and fuel) than just old hard packed dirt trails....

Motor woes - right side piston/rod damage

My guess is the bore/machine shop didn't have the pistons when they were bored. That is critical in my opinion....mic the pistons, mic the bore...and get tolerances in check. I've seen a LOT worse...and you're a smart man for not neglecting that motor and pushing it back to camp instead of being a hero... Buy the pistons, take them to the machine shop with the cylinders, and have them machined to spec that way. I'd bet the left side had one of the following, if not more: Air leak plugged carb And it can't be a .010 overbore..if he used Wiseco pistons. They go from Stock to .020 for the first bore, ask what kind of pistons, they could've been cheap junk. At this stage, I'd tear it down to nothing and go through the cases, the crank, everything and check it all out...just to be sure! -
I didn't see a 10 gallon gas tank on that...other wise, he sure ain't going 60 miles on a stock tank with that motor. Clean bike...up until he put craptor plastics on it.....I bet it is an awesome duner for sure. I could build my bike twice for 12500 though...

Thanks Stu...but I'm going to play it safe on this one. Since Titan racing built your cub, ask Tim what he says. A general rule of thumb, for cubs on alky....is 150 to 175PSI... .040 to .050 squish. The less compression, the more timing you run. However, each builder is different, and Titan racing does nice work. I would ask them how they'd like it setup...they know their race package better than I do...

Wait a minute...Bansh. And I'm on PS...but I'm not defending them...just calling it like I see it. If it's not a PS sponsored or sanctioned event, how can they catch blame? I'm sure there is a thread with a bunch of people talking about going, etc. We have that here. Hell...on PS and HQ there are LONG threads about going to Silver Lake dunes and a sand drag track a few hours from Silver Lake. Does that mean HQ and PS are responsible if the track and/or dunes are left in a mess? No....half the people at the dunes don't even know what HQ or PS is.... However, if it is a PS sponsored/sanctioned event....I would back you 100%. I'm no fan of Charlie Ohton, BTW... However, the site does contain a wealth of knowledge for many....and plenty of good friends as well...

Gonna be tough considering they're gonna be on my bike up there this weekend...LOL. I gotta give the 15's back to hopper....sorry... PM USA on PS. He's selling his cheetah bike, he has brand new 14 Paddle Extremes...ask him if you can borrow them.
-
I borrowed a set of 15 paddle extremes....LOL....

Since you already have the 18...I'd say build a 4 just so you can see what you can get out of it, Shane... Unless you like tuning more than riding, I say stay away from a Turbo...they're a real PITA. Don't get me wrong, tuned right, they are absolutely amazing....and very hard to beat. But they're just a tuning nightmare.... If anyone can get one to run, it's Dan Hull. Just be ready to ride that turbo bike...in the end of '08...

Picking up my Cheetah Cub tomorrow ?
dajogejr replied to smuttdawg's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Why?? Use the same oil you plan on running at the same mixture from tank 1 of day 1... -
What are you looking to get in trades...whatcha need?
-
He means it a lot of power in a narrow range of the RPMs, all upper RPMs. That's a drag port... No low, no mid, just all top end, upper RPMs powerband... Great for one thing...drag racing.

PM [email protected] I'd bet he'd help.... -
Not for long...big motor suck fuel. That's pushing it for gas, alky...you might as well buy a new motor... You can richen up your jetting a hair for longer runs...but, when the bowls get sucked dry, it doesn't matter what jet you have in there... Lean...pop...bang, done.
-
Not really...like Snop said, that tire you picked has little puncture resistance... I've always liked realtors, but they are heavy som bitches.
-
Kenda Klaws, cut every other row off the tire. You'll be fine.

Looking For a Pro circuit system or a Toomey system

Well..in that case, it's time for surgery Doctor...LOL. get a Clymers manual...best step by step with pictures out there. Remove each carb, clean it very well. Pay close attention to removing the pilot jets and clean the tiny holes in those with a piece of speaker wire. The pilot circuit on the carbs controls low speed/low throttle response. Make sure you do one carb at a time, so you don't accidentally swap parts from one to the other (yes...it does make a difference. Each one has it's own slide and float bowl) Set your air screws to specs, syncronize the carbs (so they open/close) at the same time, and clean the air filter assembly. I bet that fixes your problem...
-
With that gearing...100 or so...depending on how big your rear tires are. That motor can probably pull 16/39 and hit good numbers. Here's the real problem...you're going to suck those float bowls dry, and smoke that motor. Unless you want to look into some type of fuel pump setup, running WOT for a while is not the greatest idea....when you starve a motor spinning 10 K or so out of gas, you're starving it of all it's lubrication too (2 strokes, of course)
-
OK... What kind of riding are you going to be doing, (dunes, desert, etc?)?? What kind of mods do you have to your bike? How long is the swingarm on your bike. The first two numbers on the tire size are the tire height and width, the last number is the rim diameter. So...if you have 9 inch rims, a 10 inch tire isn't gonna fit, and vice versa...

Friends of mine went to the UP on a long trail ride...and got a chance to hit some wide open roads...flat, hard packed dirt. Two riders of similar weight and skill, (each about 180 to 190) the 800 was bone stock, the TRX450R has a pipe, air filter, jetted...and he'd beat the 800. Now...it wasn't by much, he said his best race, 1 bike or two, worst race, a tire. Now he also said they never got to top the bikes out...the 800 would probably start pulling with all that motor on top. However, correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't that 800 a TANK??
