I take it you don't have the TORS system any more. Did you check the carb slides to make sure they weren't stuck open? If they aren't stuck open you are going to want to look for an air leak. You haven't done any mods or anything to the bike, it just started doing this?
I am still waiting on a kickstarter. Looks like some of the guys on PS are getting their stuff, but I have been waiting a month. I pm'd him on PS about a week ago and got a fairly quick response. Reply'd that he had the order sitting there but hadn't shipped it out for some reason and it would be on its way. I am pretty patient, but it has been a month. I will contact him again and let you all know what I find out.
So that is the only reason it isn't letting me? I appreciate the offer and may send one to you, but would like to try and figure it out first. Do you know of any free downloadable programs I can use? That is another thing.... Everytime I post a pic it is small and have to enlarge to really see it well.
I feel dumb, but anyway.... I have been here since 04 and can't figure out how to put an avatar up. I have tried from a pic hosting site, and I have tried to upload from computer. I keep getting invalid format. They are a Jpeg file I believe. I figured now that the web site automatically sizes them for you I would be good to go, but still no luck. Can someone dumb this process down for me???
I am not sure how they are in Glamis, but I have never seen anyone check a stock silencer at Silver Lake, and they check every vehicle that enters the dunes.
As far as using stainless steel, I tried that and got the no USFS stamp speech. So that probably won't work.
Silver lake is by far the closest to you. I ride there all summer long. I must warn you though, in comparison to other dunes it is small potatoes. Silver lake is in the hundreds of acres, where Glamis 200,000 or so acres. Silver lake(unless you just can't get enough like me) is a couple day venture. You could damn near ride every square foot of it in a couple days.
Something is going on w/the tester. At 60lbs you could drag it around behind a truck all day and it wouldn't start. Air leak at the base gaskets won't affect compression so I wouldn't concentrate there. I would try the compression test again and make sure you hold the throttle wide open and kick the shit out of it till the needle stops moving.
If you keep running it in the 220ish range you will have problems. Is it cold where you are at? I ran the same setup as you at one time and ran 320's in the summer. It was rich on the hot days but always ran great. The fatty's like a richer mid, and pilot. If it is cold I would start at about 330's, lower the clip one notch on the needle, and run a 27.5 pilot w/airscrews about a turn out. May even go w/30's w/airscrews 2 turns out. Either one will be close.
I can't tell you from any actual research but have read they need to be about 6 inches. The stinger does indeed play a part in the pipe design and function.
When you say jetting is as should be, in reference to what? I am not saying you aren't correct, just to get a basis as to where you are at w/mods, carbs, filter setup.... Does it smoke bad all the time? If so, what color is the smoke?
The only bad thing w/the straight paddle is you will not be able to turn on a dime like you can w/the sandstars. If you are more worried about hill shooting, and drag racing, definately get the haulers.
The adjustment drunk is speaking of(which I think is what you are asking about) is eccentric. If you loosen the nut you can turn that stud (w/flat screwdriver slot in it) and see the shift shaft arm move up and down. Just get it as close to center as you can eyeball.
No, there are a lot of top notch names, and in that upper echelon, faster guys are the ones that can set their bike up. I am fond of Patriot Racing. But that just happens to be one builder I happened to work w/and am very satisfied w/his work and a nice personable guy as well. Best thing to do as mentioned a million times before is call a few and go w/who treats you the way you want to be treated as a customer.
