ATV beads are some of the nastiest to break because the bead are taller and designed to resist breaking with very low tire pressures. A hyper wheel just is not that hard to break compared to an OE single piece design wheel. ATV wheels are also quite different from motorcycle/car wheels too. I am shocked that someone would recommend the 2x4 idea and not even put the board on it's side, more than doubling it's load range. It is certainly not a bad idea in a pinch though. B

Here is maybe an odd question. A friend of mine's place does not have I net, however, there are several unsecured routers in the area but signal is weak. He does not want to pay for net because he does not use it but I friggin need it when I show up. Is there something cheap I can throw on a tall pole to pull these signals better and use one of these unsecured routers in the area? Not sure what is out there.

Typcially, when a bike starts creeping at idle, the clutch basket and/or hub are worn out and grooved. As long as your clutch arm on top of the engine case is not hitting the case with the hand lever pulled all the way in, it might be time to inspect the clutch. Brandon

I concur  You will not be pressing the OE sleeves out as they are cast in place. They must be bored. The replacement liners are drop ins though. I will have to disagree on the freezer method though. We have done a bunch of cylinders over the years and cooling the sleeve will give even more clearance and a press is rarely needed then. If you have the machine tools and plenty of time to waste, things will work OK. There is no better time to port those transfers than when the sleeves are out! B

Well, I am not sure how things are handled these days and for the past several years, they have had these little carts, rocket bikes, or whatever to fill the time slot. One guy in the shop broke his leg (really) so not sure if there was too much competition for the organization or what. I was far from winning anyway because some JA hit me at the start of the race and jacked my bike up. I finished half pack both days. Had someone told me there would be a $1K purse or something, I would have been motivated to set my bike up better. By the way, Banshee guys were funny as hell to watch! NO traction! It is worth it just to say you did it though but I sure as hell would not take my Protrax bike out there for no purse. Guess they probably have guys lined up to do it. I might throw something together some day just to try that out again. We are building a new dome here so that might be reason enough to slide it again.

Probably been 10 yrs since I did that but we were contacted at the dealership by the monsterjam org looking for experienced racers that can get sideways competitively. I was not paid a dime, was given the name jo bob from NY, and was told to drop the ball at the last minute for their "local" guy. Yeah, it is an act to a degree but there was not a ton of rules when I ran, only not to win. Took most of the fun out of it for me too because that was concrete racing and I had a nasty setup for that too. Not sure how you get in these days. B

[quote ... i was hopin the cops would correct it but they were no help There is your first mistake. They are only around to hand out tickets to the tax payers. You think they give two shits about your quad?? Sorry, I just wanted to take another stab at them. For those times when they post "well, when your shit get's stolen, who do you call?" Apparently a waste of minutes if you ask me. B

jetting? air leak? need some input please?
blowit replied to bansheesmoke's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
If your rad cap is screwed up, that will cause the problems you describe. Lean jetting will not cause coolant to squirt out just at WOT. If your coolant temp is not high, either the rad cap or head gasket is suspect. Brandon -
Yeah, if Kevin designed it, I think I will call this company and give them a ration of shit. It happens every day but still irritating. That is not innovation, it is imitation.
-
I am not sure if Kevin Gigot came up with this design first but if so, I think I would be pissed. It's always nice to see someone doing business as copying other people's hard work. I would have to say though, if it was not patent protected, there is no legal recourse.

WHAT IS UP WITH THE "RATING" THING IN MY AUTHOR AREA?
blowit replied to blowit's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Um, I would not exactly tout that proudly.... Though I don't share your pain, I feel sad for you.... B -
 10-4. Big problems back in the day with air cooled bikes doing this and dying. Fins with water cooling is purely a looks thing. Just not practical for cooling. B

What I am trying to do is find an easier way to add leaders with arrows and text on top of a JPG photo. We have plenty of CAD software here but none of them are designed to work with picture images. I have done this before in photoshop but seemed like a huge pain in the ass as there is not a tool to just drop an arrowed leader and text. Granted am I not very proficient with photoshop. What would you guys use to point out certain parts of a picture and put remarks on them?

Sounds like you got some bad advice. Grinding on the top of the pistons is not all that bad if you know what you are doing but he probably did not tell you this will change the port timing too?? I would not recommend making any port changes unless you know what is going on there and sounds like you are best to assemble as is. Many machine shops have " an idea" what is going on but port timing is critical in them. Notching the pistons is a 40yo method of "poor man" porting but also good for testing theories because used pistons are always cheaper than new cylinders and easier to cut. Brandon

Sometimes you have to figure what your time is worth. Might be cheaper to drop it off somewhere. I feel pretty confident you have a carb/TORS/cable issue but you may very well have a pilot jet clogged. I have literally had bikes come in where a guy did back to back carb cleans with no improvement because the fuel tank was contaminated with sand and was getting past the POS OEM filter. Have to know what to look for sometimes. Might try another carb clean and sync and examine that throttle cable. brandon

Thanks, I was about to go back and start looking at data again. guess we will keep running our 25:1 motors. B

What did you find? same as me or stroker? We use the CMM to plot the points, then create a 3D model with the correct dome profile that is FAR from hemispherical. CMM = coordinate measuring machine. Brandon

It's not what you will see, it is what you will feel. Remove the clutch pressure plate and plates and spin the trans axle by hand while in neutral. If it does not turn easily, you have an issue. You should also shift the bike by hand while turning the transmission to make sure it shifts. If you lost your oil, you would likely lose a bearing before you toast anything else. There are bearings on every free spin gear. I am guessing it might be time to visit a shop and have them inspect it. I caught a transmission problem last year that came from another shop. Luckily they did not run it. It had one rough spot while rotating the trans. It was found to be a cracked 5th gear wheel from locking the chain to the case and would have lasted about 5min. Experience can be your friend on this one. brandon
-
No chance of losing a shift fork due to lack of oil. Bearings will go first. Time to open the clutch cover and see what you have. Brandon
-
If it stalls the engine when you engage the clutch and will not shift, you will be pulling the clutch cover off to determine what is up. If you really did lose your trans oil, I suspect you will be pulling the trans. A spun and toasted bearing if not a few of them. Best case scenario is the shift claw jumped off the shift star. I am guessing not though. Sorry about the luck! Brandon
-
You are on target but I did want to find out how you got your numbers for dome displacements? We did all of ours with a CMM and came up with vastly different numbers. Obviously that number can make a huge difference in calculating ratios. Brandon

I thought he had the thing on there! Still does not explain the TORS phenomenon. May be a combination of things. We'll see if this one comes back with the solution for once.

yeah, Wiseco is a specialist in stuff like that. Where it gets expensive is making another blank. I am about to do the same for my PSI motored 250R. Friggin PSI wants to bend me over with their proprietary pistons. Way too heavy anyway. I plan to explore other options. I would say a grand for 4 complete custom pistons is a bargain but I am sure they had a slick blank that did not require too much adjustment.
-
I think the forged blanks has been a problem for us in the past. I heard we are better off designing the tool and the rough blank and going to a forging company than talking with a piston company but I get a little worried with quality. We probably have 10 conceptual piston designs saved but can not moved on them because of the mfg side of things. I have not followed up with Mahle lately but they usually only start listening at about 10,000 pieces so not sure if our businesses will align well.
