I have never seen a liquid cooled yz 490, that's not to say they never made one, but you may wanna check, I believe, that they were always air cooled, until they quit making them....

ceramic coating decrease in power?
slowpokebanshee replied to slowpokebanshee's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
cool, I will have it done, anyone know a good place in so-cal, anmely san diego, or around there to do it, I checked one place, they want $150 is this a good price? just for the expansion chambers? -
I recently acquired some PT mids, and would like to have them ceramic coated. but somewhere read that the coating retains too much heat, and effects horse power. does any-one know this to be true? I have heard the effects both ways, some people say "more" power, while others say less, I personally, don't think that it would make any difference, at all. but what do I know? next question: anyone know of a good place in San-Diego to get this done?

I ahve 20x10x10 haulers with ten scoops, way overkiill, if I could do it over again, I would get eight scoops, good for wheelies though, bad for the"hill" can't spin them. but If I air them to about ten-twelve, little better just rides like shit.

I thought it might look good up next to my desert tank, maybe even things out a little, nad also add some "fat" bars with high bent to smooth thingss out a bit... what do you think?
-
sounds like you need to file some material off of the carb body, if they are still beveled. I can't remember exactly, but I think the instructions say something about 2mm need to be removed. goto toomey's website, they have instructions you can print out.

Please Help with CPI's and Jetting
slowpokebanshee replied to NugShee's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
you say 2 into 1 k&n filter is that like a pro-=floww setup? or like the toomey one, basically do you have an airbox? and with or without lid? -
according to the FMF website, they say with just pies added (Fattys) 30 pilot, stock needle, 260 Main Jet, but if you have an open airbox, 30-32.5 pilots, 280-300 Main jet, based on their suggestions, I can only guess they "pad" it a little bit, so as you will run a little fat, due to different machines running a little different from each other, and to allow zero liability, for motor damage, I would maybe start with 30 pilots, and 300 mains, and see how that goes? but if you have the lid on your airbox, I would probably think you are closer to 280 mains....stock pilots....

I found the price I paid for the MSR system X protectors was $115 a piece through the local parts shop.

I am interested in buying a Hi-Flite desert seat, does anyone have one, and is it worth the bucks? it looks like a good idea for the dunes?
-
I have the stock bars and can turn lock-to-lock w/no problems, but I think I wanna get a hi-flite seat, and maybe the trailtech computer w/fat-bars to raise things to teh new height of the tank, smooth things out a bit., any-one else have a hi-flite seat? do you like it?

What silencers will work with PTR mid range beside

which side broke? -
according to my Clymer manual, the main jet is 145, and the pilot is 42.5 do you have any mods? I "hopped" up my wife's Warrior pretty good, so if you have any questions, or need any jets, lemme know, I have the stock ones. and a pretty good selection of larger ones. right now I have a pro-flow intake system with K&N air filter, swiss cheese air box hot-cams camshaft, stock piston, FMF power Bomb headpipe, w/Fmf 4 square silencer.runs pretty well, seems to hang with my brothers Z400 Suzuki..up Oldsmobile "Glamis"

learning to fly, comfortably numb, and shine on you crazy diamond, gotta be the best, but there old stuff rocks also, talkin' bout one song I don't remember the name, but talkin' bout something with a bicycle . heard they are gonna put the wall on broadway soon...should be interesting.

also check to see what type noise restraints if any are included in emisssions testing?
-
okay I installed the pipes today, they are mid range, and I was able to use the stock silencers, for now, curious if I should still start with 290-300 mj, or maybe smaller, due to factory silencers...duncan says 280 mj, w/open airbox, 4th clip needle, stock pilot. I have clamp on K&N's w/stock silencers, and 27.5 pilots, stock needle clip position, 250 mj. looks to be fairly lean 6th gear plug chop shows very light, but with new plugs, not sure if it's accurate, felt lean though not much on top....play some more tomorrow hopefully.

I have a right side fat boy silencer, brand new, either I need a left side or I have a right side for sale.....care to make any deals, or maybe you want to buy a pair of silencers, and split them? lemme know. -
first of all, I need to know what sort of gases they test for , I live in California, and we test for five gases, here,:HC(hydro carbons), CO(carbon monoxide), CO2(carbon dioxide), O2(oxygen), and NOx(oxides of nitrogen) I am guessing not as strict as here, but If they do not do "road side testing" and it is just an annual inspection, you may be able to "temporarily clean it up" at the expense of performance, for instance: very basic: CO reading compared to O2 reaading, when the mixture is rich CO is high, o2 is low, when mix is lean CO is low, o2 is high, w/out knowing what they test for I can only guess? If your timing is advanced, I would retard, I would also lean out the motor, substantiallly, let me know if any of this helps, and maybe I can advise you more, I work at a chevrolet dealer here in California, so any advise I give I can only syacomes from my experience on working on cars (four stroke, pollution controlled vehicles) but I will help If I can

wut kind off tranny oil need help fast!
slowpokebanshee replied to yanks5164's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
redline shockproof light weight gear oil, gonna change to ultra light this winter, and see how it goes.... could be a spokesman, I use the water wetter, pre-mix, and the tranny oil from redline -
just bought myself, my wife, and one of my friends chest protectors last season, I bought the MSR system X ones, wore them all season, with no complaints, (even the wife didn't mind), only time I notice I have it on is when I turn to look behind me, then yes it is a little bit restrictive....but I think it would help alot, my pal broke his collar bone(among other stufff....) when he crashed, they said it was from his helmet when his neck "folded" and the general consensus was that he may not have broken his collar bone if he had been wearing a roost guard, but he probably would have still broken ribs punctured lung/spleen etc.... I had one pretty good "get-off" this season, pinned in third, through a turn, i nwhich the bike landed on me, and I got up and rode away with minimal bruises etc. maybe it would have been worse w/out, but am happy I had it on...

thanks for the info, I am going to try them with the stock silencers this weekend, for fit unfortunately won't get a chance to ride for another week or so, I will start with 290 main jet, and 27.5 pilot, and go from there, I was at duncans site, they say stock pilot, needle and 290 with open air box....hopefully I can run this setup until I can come across some used silencers, for these pipes, duncan want's 229 for the pair? no offense, but they don't look much nicer than say DG silencers but twice as much money???? anyone know where I can find them cheaper?
-
well I was going to purchase some CPI pipes last week, and then a buddy of mine gave me some pipes, for free.....they are paul turner, how do I tell the difference between high rev, or mids? and they did not come with silencers, so which silencers will fit these pipes? also where is a good starting point on jetting? sea level (San Diego/Glamis) stock carbs w/ clamp on k&n filters stock motor 87 octane w/40:1 redline thank you
-
wow someone else uses redline besides me.... once again I will talk about how amazing it is you can use it on oil injection bikes, and pre-mix....(if you have kid bikes etc.) curious what ratio I run 50:1, 40:1 If I plan to run the hill a bunch....

cpi pipes w/fmf Q silencers?
slowpokebanshee replied to slowpokebanshee's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I decided to get cpi's now where from? I tried the shroties racing.com, it is not a good url? any other ideas? -
I am interested in purchasing some cpi pipes, but am afraid of getting tickets for noise/spark arrestors in the local forest areas, I was wondering what the chances are that the new fmf Q silencers would fit on the CPI pipes, I mostly ride Glamis where it is not an issue, but sometimes during the summer months we go to national forest areas that are pretty strict, or would I be better off saving the stock pipes/silencers for the summer.??? anyone have a better ideas?
