Ya I love it when people ask me what brand a certain part is on one of my toys and I get to tell them that I made it myself. Well...only if it looks good. If it looks like crap it usually ends up as scrap. Some of my prototypes look crappy and I'll bolt em on just to see how they work but then I always make a few more to get it down right.

Alright Scott! Way to go twist! One of the hidden benefits of riding a twisty is that your friends will treat your shee like a fat chick No need to make up reasons why they can't ride it.

Does anyone use a no link or -2 swingarm?
Wallrat replied to Holyman's topic in General Banshee Discussion
No, extending the swingarm is done on drag bikes or bikes with tons of power to keep the front end on the ground, not give more traction. Shorter wheelbase = tighter turning. Having a wider quad is going to give you more stability which means you can take turns faster. A few guys on here run -2 swingers even on their strokers. Sure its easier to get the front end up but if your trying to ride a track your not really doing a whole lot of 0-60 runs. Better to have more traction and better handling than the ability to drop the clutch and haul butt in a straight line. -
My guess is her conversation with her friend went something like this: "Boy I can't believe I thought he was cute. He got all weird this year didn't he? I dunno...like he was cool before but now everytime I acknowledge his presence he acts like he's about to piss himself. I have to ignore him now for fear of staining my shoes yellow."

Difference between sparkplugs B8ES vs BR8ES?
Wallrat replied to richybanshee's topic in Product Reviews
Now my question is: Some of my buddies ride BR9ES plugs (colder plug). When and why should you do this? -
You east coasters are gonna hate this

Actually JT, I checked out the 30-day forecast and Glamis is set to be rain and 45 degrees over prez. weekend. -
Installed Toomey TR6 pipes and now having problems
Wallrat replied to Ruff Ryder's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
In case jetting is a mystery to you here's the deal: Anytime you modify the intake/exhaust of a carburated engine you allow more flow. The jets are small nozzles inside of the carburator that regulate how much fuel enters the engine. By adding the pipes you allow more air to go through so without changing the jets you'll develope a condition known as 'lean', meaning that there's too much air and not enough fuel. Being lean is a very serious condition and can cause you to overheat, seize, or even melt a hole right through your piston. Hopefully the damage done already isn't too severe. For a more in depth look and all the info you'll ever need on jetting, check out BenBB's jetting FAQ---->LINK -
Ricky Stator and lights or Battery...
Wallrat replied to 98bonerSTOCKshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I'm not too well read up on the whole battery issue but TRAILTECH has a small how-to written up on their website. In regards to your 200w stator... There are 2 different circuits running on your stator. One is ignition and is the same as a stock stator. The other is for lighting. The stock lighting circuit puts out 70w, yours puts out a full 200w. You can run any number of watts for your lighting as long as you don't go past 200. You can even go slightly over 200 but your lights will dim and look yellowish. -
If you were running on a stock port/stroke engine I'd say the head was probably a better way to go. I figure that since you've got added stroke in addition to the added air/fuel flow of the porting, your stock reeds are probably holding your engine back from it's true potential. Also if you had your stock head cut as opposed to running a spacer plate you probably have higher compression already so your gains would be less by switching heads. The added stroke will add compression regardless. So my vote would be for some V-forces.
-
The added stroke comes from having the pivot point on the crank placed further from the center. The 795 series pistons do have the wrist pins located closer to the top of the piston in order to accomodate the added stroke. I would check the compression and see if he has his timing advanced any before I thought about running a lower octane. The timing advance can be in the form of a different stator plate or an offset woodruff key on the flywheel. You'll need to pull off the left engine cover and use an impact to get the flywheel nut off. After that you need a Yamaha flywheel puller to get the flywheel off. Pick up a Clymers manual ASAP and it'll show you how its all done.

Why are you going to Gordon's when half the HQ will be at Gecko?

Glamis 10-day forecast

If you don't want to pull the head you could just pull of the tank and stick something long down the spark plug hole until it touches the top of the piston. Measure the difference between the top of the stroke and the bottom of the stroke. Stock stroke is 54mm so if its a +4 you should have 58mm.

I've got the helmet speakers from my old Chatterbox which I then run to an MP3 player kept in my camelback. They aren't the greatest speakers but they stay in the helmet with some velcro. Usually after I pull my helmet on I do need to slide my fingers inside and position them correctly. You could make your own pretty easily. Just get some headphones that are low profile but don't fit inside your ears. Make sure they have wires going to each ear so that you can dremel the headpiece off. Pick up some velcro at a crafts store and stick the rough velcro side to the back of the speakers. That side of the velcro will stick to the helmet liner fairly well. Its best if you can get headphones with a very short cord which plugs into an extension. Sony makes some like this with volume control on the extension. This way you can minimize how much wire hangs off your helmet when you take it off.

Banshees can be very reliable depending on how much you build up the engine. All quads are going to require regular maintenance. With a 2 stroke that regular maintenance just includes having to redo the topend about once/year or so. Its an easy job and after the first few times you'll get it down to a 30 minute job. You can actually build a pretty fast shee without having to worry about reliability. More than enough to beat mildly modded 4 strokes. The only drawbacks to the shee are the outdated suspension, poor chain adjustment, and having to buy 2 of everything when it comes to the engine.

A shortened swinger gives you more traction, better handling, and better control in the air. Only downfall is that it makes the front end lighter on steep climbs. -

What's wrong with your shee?
-
I'd say bolt em on and see how it rides. Just bring your stockers along with you in case they're too stiff. Changing em out in the field shouldn't be too difficult.
-
Naw they're easy to jump...its landing em that's tricky.

Rod, try hitting up Mat (formally MrMatt). He's out that way. I dunno what he's up to but me and the wife had a great time with him and his wife at roostfest.

Measure the I.D. (inside diameter) on the engine side of the carb.
-
That's what I did.

Check out the east coast guys for Glamis thread. A bunch of the east coasters will be out there camping on pad 1 at gecko. Dunedemon and myself will be camped out in the sand about 300 yards away from pad 1. Whatcha gonna be driving?
