if it had been sitting awhile just coulda been that the oil have settled out of the fibers some and just made then lil dry .. so there was more friction.. and you spun clutch around a lil sure it moved like normal with clutch pulled in...

i use 2 qts of type f.. and change it after couple hard weekends of riding .. oil is cheap compared to what could happen..

sounds like axle bearings.. with quad sitting there grab the grab bar and wiggle quad side to side and see if there is movement around the bearings and axle... easy to check them.. could be just a lose axle nut too but doubt it

it will run but not run right... you will need to put a stroker plate under the jugs to raise the ports...

i got a plus4 round house and i use stock brake line with plenty of slack..

plus 4 would be the best for trail riding.. i think 6 tad too much unless its open trails.. but i would suggest if your gonna get a new swing arm i would spend a lil more and get the round house its not that much more and you will thank me later... plenty of used plus 4 around just look...
