  1. aaaah, so I see why you were asking me about that. The 34mm Flatslides would work perfectly.
  2. The 35mm works perfectly with my Gorr port. If you have stock carbs, you'll gain from top to bottom with the carb. Yes, it will work for you. I would not go to a 39, too big and not enough vacuum in the low rpms.
  3. The 450r hubs did NOT fit. Now, according to Service Honda, there's two different part numbers for ex hubs. An older one and then a newer one from a year or two ago. Now, I also think the newer part number is the same as the 450r part number, but I need to go check. I was really hoping it'd work.
  4. He said boost bottle....
  5. JDawg, what elevation are you at, where are you man??
  6. Three words: Read your plugs. If it's bogging and all, kill it right then and check your plugs for oil and such. Don't just keep throwing mains in there just to "try out". You need to get a bearing on what you've got going on. Take it for a ride, even if it's at 5mph and kill it when your doing everything you can, then read the plugs. Sure it's not the TORS acting up? The "first kick starting" is the pilot and has nothing to do with the main, so the two don't even relate.
  7. Haven't tried it yet... too lazy. I'll let you know as I'm gonna try tonight or tomorrow. Scott
  8. Is it actually "ported" or just cleaned up? In theory, it is possible, because, as Big Blue said, the faster airflow will produce more vacuum, allowing the possibility for more fuel with the same jet. If it was just cleaned up, then it's possible that it's not really flowing much more air, but it's much faster, hence the need to back the main off. I have actually heard of porting causing the main to go down, but only with small portjobs and cleanups, but it's very rare that I've heard it. Scott
  9. Perfect. Thanks.
  10. the f'in desert is getting more rain that us....
  11. Ummm, you must not be watching the same weather report I am....
  12. Get it ported and buy my 34mm Flatslide Mikunis....
  13. F'ing awesome info there man. What year is your ex hubs off of? I'm wondering if they changed them some this past year when they changed the body style, because the newer 400ex has the same part number as the 450r, which I have. Guess I could always just pull a hub off the 450r and see....
  14. Have you actually tested the compression? Sounds like someone was just giving you "ideas". While not saying it is or it isn't, it'd be good to validate that with some compression numbers. If you can get those and get back to us, then we can give you an idea of what's up. If you compression is for sure low, then you'll either have to put a hone job and then rings or bore the next size with some new piston and rings. Not too big a deal. If you need to put a new top end in it, this is a great time for a little portwork. You can get it done inexpensive if you ask around and it's easy to do it then. I sent my cylinders off to get bored for the next piston size as well as ported. When I got them back, they were ready to go with pistons and rings included. Think it was 4 bills out the door for the whole deal. Cool, let us know.
  15. Someone just told me they heard a rumor that 400ex hubs will fit on banshee axle splines. This would be very very interesting to find out because they're the same bolt pattern as my honda, so, I'd be able to swap my Honda wheels/tires back and forth between my banshee and Honda. I don't have any wheels for the banshee as I sold my only set of beadlocks. I was going to put the stock tires on banshee wheels, but if the 400ex hubs work, then I can just use the stock rear wheel/tire from the Honda on a reg. basis. What you all think?
  16. Might try searching in the drag section farther down in the forum list. I'm not a big dragger, but the idea behind it is gearing. The taller the gearing, the faster you move forward. I'd say 20" at the least for running drags. 18's would give you loads of tire spin and make it harder to gear up. The 20's will give you better gearing options, IMO.
  17. I have a pair of 34mm Mikuni TM Flatslides I'll sell you for $180 shipped. The PWK's are nicer IMO in comparison to the PJ's. I've heard a lot of peeps complaining about the idling/starting circuit of the PJ's. Also, there's a reason they're discontinued. Now, the Flatslides are very nice carbs. Everybit as nice as PWK's if not more, and they have more flexibility in tuning. You can use the same type of jets that the stock carbs use and they're a favorite among engine builders. Cool, pm me for more info. I have a thread started about my 34mm flatslides in the For Sale section with pictures. Scott
  18. Don't let em get ya in the tight technical stuff...
  19. sorry, just realized it was tires only. i thought the wheels were going also....
  20. The PulseCharger is a new wave in exhaust technology. It uses that cone on the end to actually produce a vacuum that speeds up the flow of the exhaust gases. They are for 4-strokes, not for 2-strokes. They make them for the Rappy, YFZ, 450r, Z/KFX400 and I think that's it, there may be a couple more models now, dunno. It's said to have some amazing torque gains. He is a very big regular on trx450r.org and goes by the handle, "mixxer". He is also designing his very own cam specs and his very own piston specs. Not something Wiseco or JE makes and rebadged, but his very own design and having a company forge them for him. His first prototype tests of the piston have been amazing and he has very high hopes for his cam as well. He is also a master in 4-stroke head porting, although he is not currently offering that as a product of his company at the moment, he will do it in certain circumstances. He does dyno testing on a regular basis and uses the K&N Filter copmany's dyno for his testing. As was said, he really knows his business when it comes to 4 strokes.
  21. Like dajoctrtdrrdyrd said... 91 is fine unless the compression has been bumped up to a pressure that would need a higher octane, which you'd probably know about if that was the case. Race gas is a necessary evil, not a luxury. When you start modding to a certain extent, it becomes necessary. It's a total waste if it's not necessary, and expensive also at $6/gallon or more.
  22. that is shitty. I can swap my needle out in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. I can have the main changed out in under 3 minutes. Give me about 7 or 8 for the pilot. Should be less time with the new intake due to clearances.
