Nitrogen shocks are the ONLY way to go. I put nice Rancho 9000x shocks on my truck, and paid a lot for them. They're hydraulic shocks. Over time, I got sick of the bucking the truck was doing, so I called a shop that specializes in my truck, SuperdutyHeadquarters.com. They hooked me up with some Nitrogen charged Donahoe Racing shocks and dammit if they didn't make the ride night and day different.
The Rancho's have no pressure (you compress them and they don't open back up on they're own, they rely on the springs) and that creates a lot of issues. The Nitrogen has some decent pressure, you compress them, and they'll expand back out quickly, in fact, it took two hands to compress and hold them so I could get the mount bolt in there.
They are a lot better and only about $89 a shock. The guy at SDHQ said the only thing better is Fox Racing shocks w/reservoirs, but he also said they'd only be needed if I was racing off road all the time. Don't waste your money with anything else, get Nitrogen shocks the first time.
They don't make Donahoe's for anything except Ford and Toyota trucks. But, look around and make sure you find Nitrogen pressurized shocks valved for YOUR truck.
