  7. From Monsters and Critics.com Tech News Is Yahoo hijacking browsers? By Steve Ragan Jan 17, 2007, 19:05 GMT Several articles on Slashdot and other websites are reporting that, in an attempt to gain more of a foothold on browser searching, Yahoo is employing some shady tactics. One way for a search engine to gain a popular place among internet users, is to become the default search tool of choice in the browser. You see this in the upper right portion of the browser in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Being the default search engine builds brand loyalty and can return millions in advertising revenue for the company who gets the most searches and the most results. The fight for default search on browsers is well known. Google threatened a lawsuit when Microsoft made its MSN Live the default search in Internet Explorer 7. Google has also signed deals with Firefox and Opera, successfully beating out the competition, as most people often do not change the default settings. Yahoo is taking a different approach. When you install or download a Yahoo program you are given the option to include several

  9. the easiest way would be to right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar (in between the start button and clock/time), then click "Task Manager". Alternatively you can hold down (simultaneously) CTRL + ALT + DEL and click Task Manager button. Click the Processes Tab Click the word/heading "Image Name" twice so that it is in alphabetical order. You can also do this to the CPU or Memory headers to sort by current CPU or Memory usage by that process. Not all processes can be stopped. especially those of system processes. To end a process: left-click a process name and click End Processes. You can also click "show processes from all users" which will populate the list with processes used by any other username/login. If it looks suspicious or you don't know what a particular process is, then google is your friend. In google type (without quotes) "Process alg.exe (or whatever the task name is that you want to identify)" Good Luck. Remember, some processes are crucial to running programs but many processes in use by your name/login are most likely safe to close out of without a meltdown.
  10. I'm sure it'll take a little time but once it starts to happen (with a little help from moderators shuffling some threads to the correct forum), it will definitely help to find banshee info versus general everyday discussion.

  18. Big-boards.com is a well-known site to any large forum owner. The site keeps running statistics of online forums which have a post-count of 500,000 or higher. As I write this, there is currently: 482,826 posts logged on the BansheeHQ forums. The latest goal of the BansheeHQ is to be listed amongst the largest forums currently online. However, we want it to be a natural accomplishment. This means we can't condone postings which are simply there to boost our post stats. The reason for this thread is to keep tabs on the post count (found at the footer of the forum's main page. The 500,000 post mark will be a milestone for the BansheeHQ, and every member on the forums. For those of you who aren't necessarily site owners, moderators, or otherwise have a stake in an online site, it basically is like stepping up from being in the amateur races to the big leagues, amongst the big dogs. So keep checking back, reply with the current stats every now & again. I think it'll be an exciting thread to watch; to be able to visibly see the HQ'ers put their stamp on the industry and show that we not going away anytime soon. And the countdown begins. T-minus 17,174 posts....
  19. Dude, knowing what I know now, at your age if I had the chance to the teenage years all over again... i'd be a man-tramp, mackin' on all the freshmen girlies! So make us proud. Just keep it wrapped,. jeesh, last thing you need is a dependent; plenty of time for that one later in life.
  20. Both the chat and gallery have been re-installed with the latest versions and enhancements. Next up will be the arcade.
  21. I will be working on getting the chat back online and if I get that done quickly enough, I'll do the gallery as well. Stay tuned HQ'ers. -L
  22. The chat is on the list of things to be reinstalled.
  23. The next round of updates/fixes today will be: -Font Size. It's definitely too small. -Gallery update and install -Arcade (if a new version is available) -On the post screen, some of the fonts are white instead of black.
  24. Still working out the bugs, but the PM system is back up at least to see your PM's. I'll be testing further shortly for functionality. I know the post screen is all wacked but I will be fixing that as well.
