  1. I hear a lot of talk about their classifieds in this particular thread. PS aside, we have a growing Classified section here. it's not used as much as prob PS, but it could be. Just this week I put a feedback system in each topic. so you can get an idea of how things turned out with that transaction or click Feedback at the top of the forums pages to see member feedback. The more people use the classifieds here to post their stuff, the more people will look at it. And the more people use the feedback, the safer the site will be for buying and selling atv-related merchandise.
  2. New Search installed. Clicky Here for Announcement
  3. Working on a new search today actually. It's kind of an overhaul/replacement of the current search which requires some server updates in order to index the site on a regular basis. It should allow for smaller searches (3-4 letter searches). Stay tuned. I'll be posting in the Site Announcements category when it's done.
  4. I cursed it. Irony at its best. just as i hit submit at 10:30 or so it pooched. which now I think I found two things that are scheduled for 10:30 but should be separated... think i have a bug-report to fill out somewhere.
  5. Addressing the downtime issue, it's been annoying me too. Which is why I took the site offline for a few hours here & there yesterday to do some server upgrades (by that I mean the software platform that the sites run on and the OS). Unfortunately I couldn't have the site up during some of the upgrades. I'm closely monitoring log files and resource usage pretty much on the hour to see trends and spikes in the traffic, and what is being run when the site goes down around 10 or 11 PM each night. I'm on right now at 10:00 and the server seems slow, and intermittent. but up. I know it's bothersome, but to make up for some downtime in the last month, I'm working steadily at a few additions which I am about to make an announcement in the Site Announcements forum now. -Lee
  6. Hey guys. I put back the statistics and users area (bottom of forums home). I had to turn it off to diagnose some weird CPU/Memory issues on the old server, but it should be fine on this new one. As for the shoutbox, I'm working on it, but the one I was using had some known security issues. To the extent that the site could be "compromised" by using the security holes within the shoutbox. And it was, for all intense purposes, a resource hog (memory mostly). Fear not though, I'll find a good one.
  7. Grab a copy of XP with a valid license key and reformat that Vista pc. it's prob. a screamin' deamon but vista will consume it.
  8. i would also highly suggest removing norton. if it lets you. symantec likes to keep residuals around after an uninstall... i've been using Bit Defender Internet Security (about $30), for a long time now. No viruses but more importantly no intrusions. it logs them and blocks them. some of the extras i don't enable but it's rugged. and not such a resource hog like norton tends to be.
  9. linux is the way to go for a server. if you're planning on running a server for a small business, then redhat RHEL (not so much the free version), about $300 which comes with the support contract so you can update anytime. a good free alternative for a server is CentOS 5. it's built off from RHEL 5, and it uses yum rather than redhat's updater. want to know more, feel free. I'm not an expert but I've been building/running linux boxes in production environments for about 8 years now..
  10. Yeah, I was gullible twice today on two diff. subjects. I thought both were good approaches. 1) my friend is leaving for Japan (Navy) and he tells me today that his ex is pregnant. and I bought it. he told me to look at the date on my PC after about 20 mins. of talking back & forth about what he was going to do next about a baby on the way. 2) Next, my biz partner calls me and tells me that we got a phone call and that we could be sued for something. it didn't sound right at the time but i was sort of buying it up until about 5-10 mins into the conversation. haha I've yet to pull anything today, and I'm not buying anyone's stories until 12:01am! -L
  11. And to add to that, a while back I registered wikibanshee.com, which will be a full knowledgebase in wiki format that every BHQ member can help populate! Stay tuned for that.
  12. Hey everyone. I had to move the site to a brand new server. The one it was on was shared with some of my hosting customers and simply put, the BHQ demands its elbow room. In other words, it needed a server to itself. So I went out and got a brand new one. More details to come along with some new enhancements in the near future. My apologies for the downtime and any inconvenience it may have caused. -Lee
  13. No worries, the shoutbox and statistics will be back. I had to remove the shoutbox when I found it was taxing the processor on the server (which was a buggy version of it). I am working on a diff. type of shoutbox to replace it. I've since performed an update to the forums so things will be re-enabled soon. Also I have a new addition to the BHQ coming soon... (hint: new section for the nav. menu [under header])
  14. Please PM me if you notice any sigs or posts that may be unauthorized/unpaid advertising. Thanks for understanding the reasoning behind the removals. I think it'll work out well for the members and those who support the site. I don't mind signatures or images in the signatures but, keep them respectable in size. a huge banner/image takes up space, bandwidth, and distracts from the actual topic/thread. Thanks.
  15. If you are advertising for a company with a text link, URL, or within an image, which does not pay to advertise on the BansheeHQ, it will be removed. It is unfair to those who pay to advertise and support the site to have others getting advertising and business sent to them for free.
  16. Xbox Live (halo 3/rock band/GH 3): Adrenalinez
  17. Just remember the policy please (everyone, not targeted towards this or any other post). No advertising in signatures unless the advertisement is a paid sponsor/advertiser on the BansheeHQ. Non-Paid/non-sponsors ads within posts and signatures will be removed. This policy has always been in place to support those who support the BansheeHQ. Again, I'm not targeting this particular thread, but I'll be posting this wherever it is deemed related.
  18. Great, I needed something to replace the 2007 Joe Rocket calendar.
  19. I am up for selling some shirts. Any designers want to throw some designs my way and I'll consider them. All BansheeHQ merchandise must be sold through myseelf as part of the BansheeHQ. Therefore, if you have a printing business, send me some prices, etc. for bulk-rate shirts, t-shirts, hats, etc. I'm up for getting rid of the CafePress store and starting a BHQ store of it's own if that is what the members want. -Lee
  20. Please see the pinned topic below: http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81703 Please use the above link to discuss further.
  21. As most of you know, the BansheeHQ was down from (most of) July 27 until today, July 30. The temporary site I had up explained that the server was down for maintenance and to move the server. The BHQ wasn't down for site updates. Unfortunately. Otherwise it would have been worth the wait for everyone, myself included. However, the site went down in order to move the server from the data center in Miami Florida to a new data center in Tampa. Eventually I'll be hosting the server at my offices but more on that later. What was supposed to be a 12-14 hour transition, took the data center techs over 3 days to complete. These details are being worked out between myself and the data center, as I am not pleased with the downtime. I appreciate your understanding, and would like to assure that anytime a downtime occurs, I use all resources available to get the site back to operational status as quickly as possible. -Lee
  22. Once I post this, I will be banning him. It appears to me that if he's sending and resending the packages that at least the second time around he would have some tracking numbers. Without tracking numbers, in an internet transaction your word won't hold up. It's too bad people have to lose money over someone they feel they can trust, but instead just get excuses after excuses. If he wants to make it right with you guys, he can contact me and get things squared away. Until then, he's banned.
  23. I'm probably going to have more than my share of vodka & sprite tonight. Why? Because channel 202 isn't the same now: http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=67441 (no i'm not cancelling xm, but it really sux that america is dulling down its entertainment because of a few select people who get offended over words.) Oh, and because it's friday.
  24. Not exactly sure what you mean. Are you suggesting combining the off-topic and general discussion forums, then moving it to the top? -L
