nick t Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Ok i have an 03' banshee mostly stock. dynojet and t5's is about all i got. I was looking at a cub but everyone says no if im not drag racing. i ride mostly open fields behind my house but i do ride trails if i go somewhere. I want a quad that will scare the shit out of me. im an adrinaline junkie and i want to be scared while im ridding. but i dont drag so how much power would i get out of just a woods port on a stock engine? the mechanic that does most of my work says he thinks i should just bore it out and do something like that. what do you all think? can i get the scary power out of that? i dont really know shit about engines and i will have to pay to have all the work done for me. so i dont understand exactly what the mods do to the quad i just know they add power. i just dont know if its to much or to little. thanx for any help you can give me. i appritiate it Quote
00tbanshee Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 give kevin a call at herr jugs racing.he does a trail port and he cold tell you about how much power you can get out of it.but if you want something that will scare you i would probly do a dune port Quote
Michael Jackson Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 your mechanic is tellin you to bore out your banshee to make it scary fast? i think you should find a new mechanic. Quote

Dont bore it unless you have to! Quote
locogato11283 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 you need a builder not a mechanic.. how much are you looking to spend? that will tell you a lot. Quote

nick t Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 what is the difference? i may have misunderstood him. so a big bore kit is a bad idea? Quote
Derek C. Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 what is the difference? i may have misunderstood him. so a big bore kit is a bad idea? Its ok nick they are just saying that anyone who knows a little something about motors knows that a bore job just freshens up your motor, it doesn't really ADD power, it just restores what you have lost over time. I think thats why they were saying ditch the mechanic. Quote
Snopczynski Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 You do a big bore kit in combination with a port job and usually a stroker crank. If he was recommending a big bore kit, and you dont know what it is, then you probably should wait till your a little more crafty with a wrench. You have to be a good tuner, rider, and wrench to upkeep a well built banshee motor. Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Builders dont even like resleeving cylinders from what I can see.Maybe he was talking about a aftermarket big bore cylinder like Cub,Cheetah or w/e Quote
dajogejr Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 You can big bore a set of stockers, but the gains made are minimal...and it can even set you back in power if done poorly. Porting, however....is where the power is at. NOTHING you do to your motor will compare with porting. Of course...with porting you need to compliment it to your riding style, as well as the port itself. Pipes, carbs, gearing, etc., all play a roll, as well as chassis setup. Time and time again, people build a MONSTER motor but don't take the time to setup the chassis to get that power to the ground. Ok...I just reread your post. Get a dune port and some 33PWKs to match it with your pipes. Hold on. Quote
nick t Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 ok this may seem dumb but i have no idea. what does PWK stand for? what is the number? i have heard of 33 and 38. second can a dune port be used in the woods? Quote

Washburn Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 (edited) You cdan ride a dune ported motor in the woods all day but you will be so focused on throttle control that you wont be fast at all except in straight lines plus your rpms where you want all of you power for woods riding will be to high up in the power band to be a truley effective woods motor. Just get a woods port, Youll be satisfied. you dont want to much matirel taken out of your ports and you dont want them raised to high so it only likes higher rpms. Oh, PWKs are a line of Carbs that Keihin makes. 28-33 PWKs are good for woods motors. A 2:1 Carb intake with a single 35PWK is a good setup too. Edited April 28, 2008 by Washburn Quote
nick t Posted April 28, 2008 Author Report Posted April 28, 2008 ok another question what is a 2:1 carb? the way i take it is it takes the 2 carbs the motor has and combines them. is this right? y would you want that? Quote
