  1. I picked this machine up cheap, and I wanna fix it RIGHT once and for all! I can pretty much deal with the rest of the bike, but the motors seem pretty fussy after reading alot of these topics on here. A few of yas gave me advice on the crank and was hoping to get some help going through this motor. Nobody around my town really knows much about shees, so I'm kinda on my own here. when I split the motor I was told something needs to be done to keep the tranny from falling apart!!?? Is this true? Second, it has a hot rod crank in it with very few hours on it. (This motor is filthy! It's full of sand, and when I took it apart, there was no airfilter! So I want to rebuild it totally fresh!) Should I rebuild the crank or buy a new one? I've been reading and do not fully understand the 4 mil set-up. So I don't know, I'm excited to ride this thing. I'm gonna start taking it apart tonight if I get some feedback. I'm not the greatest mechanic, but I'm not the worst either. I've restored a few Tri-z's, dirt bikes, etc. My son and I are in the middle of a full restoration of his 2003 Blaster, so I think I know enough to do this myself with a little guidance if yous would be so kind. Thanks!
  2. No pics, but not just the piston is melted. The piston actually looks like it held its ground during the overheat or whatever happened. The actual rod bearing at the bottom of the rod is gone, and the bottom of the rod, and surrounding metal is blue from heat. Motors out, not split yet, crank turns fairly freely. Left side piston, rod, bearing look brand new. Right side, not so new. The left spark plug looked tan to brown, and the right was like tannish-white. I knew it was blew up when I pulled the right plug. Would the piston be affected if it was a bad bearing. The top of the piston has a few pits and a couple areas around the edge on top appear to have melted slightly. I actually just got the machine (CHEAP) from a local guy but I know all about what he's done to it. He has had nothing but problems with it. I did not work on this motor yet. He got sick of it, now I plan on fixing it properly. Thanks for everybody's help by the way!! You guys rule!
  3. Its ok nick they are just saying that anyone who knows a little something about motors knows that a bore job just freshens up your motor, it doesn't really ADD power, it just restores what you have lost over time. I think thats why they were saying ditch the mechanic.
  4. I almost lost my faith in Hot Rod, but that thought quickly faded after joining these forums yesterday and searching and reading posts until 2 in the morning.
  5. air leak, as in carb boots, or from not being put together properly? This F'n sucks man its just getting nice out and now this!!
  6. By the way, I'm talkin 4 to 5 hours on this motor. Started and ran fine!
  7. What the hell is going on? Excuse my language, but a fresh rebuilt Hot Rod crank, blew up and melted the bearing and rod right off of the crank! Right side only. Left side still looks brand new. I'm assuming maybe a plugged up jet not letting fuel thru cuz the whole rod turned blue it got so hot! Any advice or suggestions?? Think the rest of the crank will be ok?
