Snopczynski Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Is this guy one of the other members fucking with us? This is a 2 into 1 intake and pwk carb. 2 into 1 link Quote
mdhc500 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 ok another question what is a 2:1 carb? the way i take it is it takes the 2 carbs the motor has and combines them. is this right? y would you want that? Dont bore it... I would do like these guys say and get a good Dune port job and possibly, maybe do something with the head to bump up the compression ratio and run a 50/50 of 93OCt and race fuel. Also the little things add up like having the crank welded, getting good reeds, finding the right intake solution, etc... Quote
gregrob Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Easier to tune, and good for midrange throttle response, but hurts you on the top end. PWK is just a series of Keihin carbs. Instead of saying "get this, get that" I'm going to tell you to call Kevin Herr. The porting he does is custom for your riding style, weight, elevation, other mods, desired HP, budget, etc, etc. It will cost you around 600 bucks to pull your cylinders, put a new top end kit (O rings, gaskets and pistons) and a midrange port job. New carbs will run you 300ish. new intakes and filters figure another 100 or so. A set of T-5's new is 500ish, used you can find them a lot cheaper. Timing plate is cheap. Set your timing at +4 or 5. Then like daj said, you need suspension to put it to the ground. You can pick up a set of YFZ 450 shocks or used aftermarket for a couple hundred, and have your rear revalved by works, tcs, etc for your weight and riding style. Just giving you an idea, it's not cheap but you can do it one piece at a time. I'd recommend you start gathering the supporting mods now, and hold off on the port job until you need to do a top end rebuild, so you're not wasting a bore on good cylinders. Get a cool head with 19 or 20cc domes so you can stay on pump gas. That will raise your compression which can give huge gains. Within reason, compression and porting are the biggest things you can do for power. You can put the head, carbs, pipes, and everything now, and be all ready to go for porting.... Quote
nick t Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 ok so would t-5's work better than t-6's when i bought the bike it had t-6's on it already. so if i use the t-6's i can do it for about a grand? cant i do the whole cub thing for like 1500? Quote
Snopczynski Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 cub motors are usually for drag racing. You also need to have some decent technical knowledge to tune the bike and fine tune it. T6 pipes would not work well for anything but a stock banshee motor with no porting. Quote
nick t Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 so if i get ported a set of t-5's is a must? Quote
Snopczynski Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Are you a pretty new rider? Do you know what you want to do? Peoples recommendations are going to be based on what the bike is going to be mainly used for. One guy may like a t5 for a trail pipe, but I say pro circuits. Then another guy make like a t5 for a play dune bike, but I say pro circuits, dynoport twin pipes, or old school fmf gold series. Or even a cpi. I am not a big fan of a company that copies other pipe designs. Or also has a tendency to design pipes that go backwards and actually make less power when they are supposed to make more power as the models progress. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 #1 thing is to ask your builder which pipe they recommend for your setup, period. Quote
Snopczynski Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 #1 thing is to ask your builder which pipe they recommend for your setup, period. yeah, your gonna want the power to work in the range he cuts your cylinders at. Quote
nick t Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 to answer your question no i have no idea what i want. i am not a new rider but im also not a vet. im 17 been riding since i was 5. the closest thing to a sport quad ive ever been on was my ktm 250 dirtbike till i got this. i used to ride utility quads but i caught the bug and decided i need more speed. my question wasnt necesarily about t-5's i guess i just ment something other than a t-6 is a must? Quote
Snopczynski Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I would start out with some bolt ons that will get you power but leave room to do more as you get better on the shee. Maybe do some pipes, a cool head with domes, timing advance, lighten the flywheel, put in a clutch kit, and start from there. What do you mostly ride, and how do you want the power delivery i.e. low-mid, mid-top, etc...... Quote
nick t Posted April 30, 2008 Author Report Posted April 30, 2008 i ride mostly open fields behind my house. indiana is nothing but fields. when i do ride i go to WV or KY and do trails. is there a setup that is just a general setup that can be used for trailsand MX and just an all rould fast quad? Unfortunately that would be a 4 stroke. (except for the fast part) Quote
nick t Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 anyone that has a dune port, how much power increase did you get? as a side note cpi pipes. are they custom made for your engine? i was looking at getting a set if i needed a new set. but they are used Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 your gonna want a trail or mx port. Something with an exhaust duration between 185 and 188. Your gonna want to stick with a low-mid pipe or mid pipe. I.E. Pro circuits, fmf Gnarly, FMF Fatty, dynoport twins, and PTR mids. I would run about 155-160 psi compression for pump gas. I would run about 175-185 with race fuel. Dome size is gonna variate compression based on your exhaust duration. I would start with bolt ons though. Quote
