Swaie Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Okay I went for a ride yesterday to break in the new motor. I noticed that I had no power, I mean no power on the bottom side. It was breaking up really bad until I hit the powerband. So we get to the sand pit and I change my plugs because of the break in oil. Now I still have no power. I still have my stock carbs on but I added the tors eliminator kit, and K&N Intake box where I use to have the k&N pod filters. I took off the top off the box and my seat and it ran alot better but still no power on the low to mid range it has power on the top but it still breakes up on the top. This is the worse part. I noticed that the left side wasn't firing so I would rev it a little to see if I could get the left side to come online. It would start reving out of control, I would have to shut it off before it blew. I don't know what to do. Where should I start? What should my jetting be with my mods. My elevation is 328 ft. Quote
714banshee380 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 sounds like your carb is getting stuck sand might have gotten in there and now the throttle is stickin... take it apart clean it out real good and put it all back together Quote
LS1Inferno Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 sand might have gotten in there and now the throttle is stickin... take it apart clean it out real good and put it all back together That should be the motto of the Yamaha banshee repair manual Quote
99bansheeAdam Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I had somthing like this happen to me, Mine was the tube between the two carbs that acts as a equalizer on low end. It would rev out of control till I put it in gear and rode it. Don't know if thats what you have going on but give it a look. Quote
Swaie Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the help, but i think I posted this in the wrong forum. Edited February 12, 2008 by Swaie Quote
gentner8 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 If the carbs check out, look for an air leak somwhere, maybe even a crank seal has started leaking. Just a thought. Quote
kawiking Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 i had mine rev out of control..... it ended up being how i ran the throttle cable. but for the breaking up, i dont know. Quote
2bzy2p Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 could be the sign of an air leak I would do a leak down test..if its suckn air it will lean its self out and pop the top end..then again it could be slide sticking or cable not adjusted right!Take your filters off and look through and see if the slides go all the way down. sa3ood_banshee Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 mine did tha same think last weekend, since i have a stock filter i greased tha sponge which is on tha stock filter(not tha filter, tha end on tha mount, between tha airbox and filter)i put a gd amount of grease and it ran normal again, check if ur pods are on there tight sa3ood Quote
Swaie Posted February 14, 2008 Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 I think my problem is that my bike is running too rich. because it was jetted for the pods and now I have the the K&N box in there. I'm going to start from there. Quote
Swaie Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 Okay, my throttle cable that came with the tors eliminator kit was really stiff, so we started looking at that. took the carbs apart and cleaned them...Still stiff. Then we tried cuttin the spring...Still stiff ran like shit. Then we swaped the slides out of another parts banshee and it started and idled really high like it was about to blow. So we adjusted the idle adjustment...and she purred like a kitten. So the saga is over it runs like a bat out of hell now. My partners were all making fun of me talking bout how 2 strokes suck and should have bought a honda 450r now they are shaking. It feels so strong on stock timing, I don't know how it's going to act after I bump the timing to +4. Thanks guys for the help. Quote
