38mm is too big unless you have a stroked cub motor. For stock cylinder and stock to 4mm stroke with port or no port run a 35mm pwk.

a single 38mm carb is not too big.. your already under carbing the motor by running a single..

if yamaha designed it to have one carb and pipe it would have came that way with only one cylinder..

now it will get realy intresting...lol

i guess with your train of thought a stock motor with a 2-1 intake set up should be running at least a 52mm carb?

A 38mm carb is way too big, I dont know if you noticed, but I am the 2 into 1 king on this board. I got the pipe and the carb. I have seen a 4 mill with a 38mm lectron run way better when a 36mm lectron was put on the same bike. I know of another 4 mill that runs the 35mm pwk and it hauls ass. I do have a buddy with a 6 mill cub motor and a 38mm lectron that does run well though.

I trail and drag my bike, but I'm using a Graydon 2-1 intake with a 35pwk air stryker. I had dual 35 pwk's before, great for all out dragging, but they sucked in the woods. As far as topend, I gained at least 8-10 mph on top with no bogging doing slow in the woods.

What mods do you have done?, what pipes are you running? etc etc. You say you gained 8-10 mph on top with the single carb and also gained down low in the woods? You used the same exact carb for the single setup as you did with the dual setup? Chances are you were over carbing the engine and thats why its running so much better now.

will i be able 2 beat the 4 strokes . will i lose a lot on top end

This is a typical newbie question. The thing you need to understand is, you can build one or the other. You cant build a drag bike for trails, and vice versa. My bike beats most four strokes that have pipe kits and even big bores (in a drag race at the dunes), but there are four strokes out there that are faster than my bike. My bike is ported and has most of the basic bolt ons on it also.
