dynodon Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 It really depends on HOW you boxed it up. Example, When I shipp a motor, I use ups, But I also have to put it in a rubber maid type container, drill holes all the way around the top and zip tie the top on. With foam packed around the motor itself. Some shippers are funny about how to package motors. I usually end up paying around 75.00 to ship an entire motor ( depending on where its going), Hope this helps Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 19, 2007 Author Report Posted March 19, 2007 yea thats what i did... its in a rubber made packed with old pillows and blankets and has zip ties all around the top...i was going to go with ups but wasnt sure if there was any shipper thats better.. Quote
black sunshine Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I made a wooden crate, sturdy but hefty. Motor and crate weighed in at 116 LBS and it was $158 to ship from Michigan to Kansas using UPS. I dont know what an engine alone weighs but if you can make it 80# or less the shipping cost is greatly reduced. Hope this helps Quote
woodro77 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 i shipped a motor to OR and im in new york , i put it in a cheap styrofoam cooler (fit perfect ) then put it in a box and shipped it with fed ex , it was around 75-80 bucks , UPS wanted 130 bucks. the only thing with items over a certain weight it has to go to commercial address , banshee motor is over the weight limit Quote
FireHead Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 When I have shipped motorcycle engines, I have used UPS and packed in a thick cardboard box that I filled with expanding insulation foam after the engine was in it. The engine was in a plastic bag of course. As for how we ship engines at work, we use many different shipping companies ranging from DHL to USF Reddaway(my dad is an executive with the company). For packing the engines we put them in a plastic engine shipping container. The company below is one of many that sell such things. They are a great investment if you are going to ever ship an engine more than once in your lifetime. I think one motorcycle size case costs about $40 (they are very volume discount oriented). The full size engine cases are about $100 a piece. http://www.rose-plastic.com Quote
yfzdunejumper Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I have always used UPS and I have always put them in rubber made boxes. I did get a motor once in a cooler but they are more $ than rubber mades Quote

FireHead Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 with ups did you ship it from a normal store or you have to take ti to a frieght store to send it out??? A UPS store will get the job done. I have shipped motors and frames through them. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 19, 2007 Author Report Posted March 19, 2007 awsome... im on my way to ship my motor and drop off my frame for pc... Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 FEDEX!!!! i shipped a craptor motor across the country in a duct taped up box full of towells around it for $60.. and i took a frame to them one time, no wrapping, no nothing and they sent it to wyoming for $75 i think. for comparison.. ups wanted $250 to ship that craptor engine. and i know a banshee engine weighs nowhere near a craptor motor.. Animalman294 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Ya, I built a wooden crate and mounted the motor to the inside of the box with its own motor mounts. It cost about $92 to ship it from Cali to Kansas. Quote
Ben Michalak Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I sent a blaster motor in a milk crate with a plywood top zip tied on and then a box around it for $35 via ups from NY to MA which isnt far but w/e And i shipped my frame etc to from NY to Ohio to my sponsor for PC for $35 wrapped in bubble wrap. I use ups as no fedex locations near here and they always fuck up my shit when i get it as they dont really deliver here they have a person they hire to do delivers and they do it when they feel like it and deliver to the wrong houses....anyways, ups is pretty good on big stuff for prices if you keep the weight down and or the deminsions down. I sent an entire pimped out ttr50 with alot of aftermarket (thus much bigger then a regular 50) i did to it to OR from NY for $150 as it was 150lbs which was good.... Ben Quote
