Hey guys I got friend that got his bike back from a local shop and they told him the trick is to block the intake holes off are they full of it or is it just for drag racing I never heard of that before or maybe they want him to tear it up and bring it back to them,

theres not really any trick involed... some inclueing my self use intake with built in crossovers.. others just plug them... there has been no dyno runs to my knowledge that have yeilded any results of power increas becasue of the crossover... i do know that if your planning on a boost bottle your basically adding apaper weight to your intakes... :) have fun

I tend to agree.

My personal opinion is that the crossever in between the left and right intake tracts are not necessary with the caveat that you will need to more accurately tune your carbs without the cross over inorder to maximize performance. With that said, my opinion is based on theory of operation, as opposed to 1st person mechanical experience. I personally run an intake with a built in crossover. I have run a Banshee engine on an engine dyno with the stock intake manifold crossover ports plugged. It did not make any more or less power, but was certainly more sensitive to carburetor adjustments.

the crossover tube is a good idea to leave on. the crossovertube serves to even out differences in jetting between the left and right cylinders, as well as differences in airflow. think about parely blocked jets or carbs that are poorly synced at idle as well as poorly synced carbs at half throttle and even full throttle.

i have seen a stupid banshee owner who has his carbs so out of sync that at full throttle 1 carb was all the way open and 1 was 75% open. (stupid people who dont buy carb sync tools REALLY need the crossover tube)

actually everyone should have a carb sync tool even with a crossover tube but it is a mystery to me who almost no one has one. a carb sync tool is one of those mUST halves for every banshee owner no matter what brand of carbs you run.

i even see alot of drag racers who have a crossover tube, i dont know of any reason NOT to have one. its not like its going to kill airflow, i see it as a device that can only do good.

unless someone comes up with a real ultimate idea of why its bad and explains why even thought they believe its bad, why did yamaha make every banshee have one?

i guess the same reason trojan made a condom that doesnt always work? i run my intak with a built in crossover becase like said nothing has said that blocking it makes any more or less power..

but we can all agree the boost bottle does nothing over a stock crossover tube or a built in...

if you plug that hole, the only thng it is going to do is nothing, or just mess up your bike. the balance pipe basically sycronizes your quads jetting. Just leave it on.

id have to disagree that it messes your bike up... i know of plenty seriouse drag bikes that either plug them or run intakes that dont have the ports for the tube or a built in corssover and nothing happend to them... it dosnt sync your jetting it balances the pressure between the two sides...

I agree. Boost Bottles just add bling. I have one on mine and do not notice any power improvements at all. Others will say that they have gain some hp but they are full of it.

Thanks for all the replys I run a boost bottle on mine and I have no plans of taking it off and I do agree it serves as no purpose but looks and it is no problem to take off to work around.... :thanks:

if your running stock rubber intakes... keep an eye on the rubber... the boost bottle adds weight to the rubber and can cause it to crack....

Couldn't agree more, mine did the same thing :banghead: Was out riding around one morning, all good to go. Come in for lunch, go back out and started hearing a hissing sound, started to get a little louder so I stopped riding, and tried finding the leak. Couldn't find it just looking around and listening, so once I got my intakes off I noticed where the clamps hold, had big cracks right through. So shee was sucking in air :banghead: So I got some new ones and took my Boost Bottle Off and put a stock crossover back on.
