burleybanshee Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 I have never ridden a banshee with the clutch lockout. Looks like it would be nice for drag racing. How is it for the dunes, up and down shifting all the time? Quote
dajogejr Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 First off, what kind of mods do you have that may or may not warrant a need for it. They are nice, and for drag racing pretty much a must for a modded shee. They're not bad for duning, they allow for the use of softer clutch springs so the pull isn't so bad. However, dunable override transmission and lockup I think are the key for any real kind of drag racing and dune riding... Quote
Karzy5150 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 from what i have looked at i have only seen them used on higher horsepower bikes around the 70-75 up to keep from smoken your clutch when your are at high rpms, but i could be wrong. Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Like dajogejr said, if you don't have the Hp you are going for overkill. Unless you plan on pumpin' up the bike later............ Quote
yfzdunejumper Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I put a 14:1 piston in my 450 and hit 56 hp that weekend. I also went through 3 clutches (stock, EBC, and Barnett) that weekend. I came home and put a lockout on it and have never had a problem with it since and I am spraying a 25 horse shot of nitrous now. I love my lockout and think you get you moneys worth. I just put the "new" style cover and lockout on my shee and it looks good. I will post some pics of the new cover tomorrow. Quote
burleybanshee Posted January 2, 2007 Author Report Posted January 2, 2007 Sorry should have put why. Been told by the engine builder my shee's around 60 hp. I was thinking of putting in a 4mil stroker and having it reported for the 4mil. I am running a tusk clutch and been fairly happy but it is not lasting as long and is a much heavier pull with the Barnett springs. Looking for less of a work out and less fade to the clutch when i am dragging, but i still want to dune. I wasn't sure how easily the lockout disengages the clutch when I would want to down shift. locogato11283 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 what year is your engine? replacing shift springs and the shift shaft with a modded one from FAST will help your shifting. the lockup is going to severely hinder shifting tho when dragging no matter what you do unless you have an override. yfzdunejumper Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Really? Again I am new to the banshee world and all me experance comes from my 450 but on the 450 I couldn't tell one difference except it don't slip. My 450 shifts (I know banshee's have shift issues anyway) perfect everytime even when sparying it and thats over 70 hp. But maybe the shee is differant than the 450 but I wouldn't think it would be that different it works the same. Quote

That 450 gearbox is very, very new in comparison to a 20 year old plus tranny design.... Just think of that in those terms....double or triple the HP for the banshee (Very easy to do)...and you can see why the thing don't shift... Quote
Animalman294 Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 How is the dunable over-ride, and does it make that much of a difference. I have the shift shaft mod and the lockout, shift star mod and think that I am going to try it that way before I look at the over-ride. How does that work exactly, and what do they run as far as cost. I think for the amount of dragging I do compared to the amount of duning, I will be fine with what I got......... Quote
sheefreak Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Animal, I was thinking the same thing, then went a season w/my current mid 80's hp setup. I will not purchase another item for my quad before I get a duneable. Any time I have my bike under full power, it shifts like shit. Forget about power shifting unless you want to loose your tranny from mis-shifts. Quote

Having a lockup with a stock style tranny does not "Severely" hinder your shifting when drag racing. I have a K&T 10 mil cub on alky witha lockup and stock tranny. I do fine drag racing. Ask Big Red if I have trouble shifting? Quote

Animalman294 Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Yeah, I talked to Jeff again and he told me that I would be fine with my set-up. I don't do taht much dragging to justify spending the extra money on it. I think it would be better spent on shocks.......... Quote
