trex banshee Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 just went out and pulled the flywheel cover and think i may have found the coulpret..I could actually fit a quarter in the pick up coil gapth..I used the feeler and got it down to specs..Hopefully tommorow when i test it out again i will have some good results..Anyways thanks fellas  well good, glad you hopefully found the problem. A business card is also a good tool to use to measure the gap if you are somewhere and a feeler guage isn't present. But anyways let us know if it fixed it. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) Not to hi-jack or anything, but I was just wondering how the pickup coil could cause a problem like that. I don't doubt you or anything, I think I'm just a little lost as to how it works. From what I gather, when the little tab on the flywheel passes over the pickup coil, in will induce a charge, and the current made flows through the coil, to the CDI, and the CDI tells the plug to fire. If the gap is too big in the coil, there will not be high enough current induced. I guess I'm lost from there about why the bike won't hit the power band until so late. Are the plugs not firing at the right time or at all? Sorry again to threadjack, it just really helps me to know what's going on, I'm still having this problem a little bit in my YZ, repacking the silencer helps, but it just hits way too damn late for such a little bike, and everything else(jetting, compression) is perfect. Me and my buddies were completely stumped on this one too, and gave up just thinking it was the way the bike was. I'm going to measure the gap, and check it with my Clymer, but if anyone could explain this, it would definately help. Thanks, Edited August 16, 2006 by LiftdT4R Quote
Lethaface Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 whats your mods and what is your jetting and elevation with what type of carbs? I had a similar problem and i turned out to be electrical (pick-up coil gap) You are the man dude  ..Bike is running much better now..Still have a small issue in the low end but nothing at all like it was..I'm going to get some new plugs and do a chop and see where i am with the jetting..Anyways thanks fellas you saved my saturday ride  Quote
trex banshee Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 cool, glad to hear you got it running better, also on your new plugs gap them to .023 Quote
StrokedOutShee Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Hey, I just traded my yz250 for a 1996 Banshee 4 mil! Great deal because I only payed 1200 for the bike I gave. But I guess this motor should be running so fast that it should scare me right? But no its not scaring me at all. Powerband is not kicking in like it should, I have to rev it like crap to hit the powerband. Also I checked the plugs and they are fine, one is light brown and the other dark brown why is that, also that darker spark plug side has a little more smoke comming out the silencer but not too much. What should I do first? Also can you explain to me how to check the pick up coil gap, I am going to order a manual soon when i get my paycheck. Thanks. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 The pick-up coil is near flywheel, about 4 Oclock posistion. Gap between flywheel nub and pick-up coil. Really should investigate the difference in plug color. Dirty carbs, air leak, clutch side oil suckin Quote
StrokedOutShee Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Ok thanks, I am going to get new spark plugs and check again. Also whats the spark plug gap and does the gap change if its a 4 mil? Quote
StrokedOutShee Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Ok thanks so much, when I rev the shee to 1/4 throttle when idling it bogs sometimes but when I put it into gear and while I am letting the clutch out it bogs all the time at 1/4 throttle. Why is that? I am not putting this in the jetting forum because I am thinking this is the reason its not getting full power like it should. But after 1/4 throttle it dose not bog at all. Quote
oldskool Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 You can have a lean bog or a rich bog. See how many turns your air screw is turned out from lightly seated (all the way in) If they are 1.5 turns out, go one full turn in and test for bog. If bog gets worse, go back to 1.5 plus one full turn out more and test again. Do both carbs. Quote

trickedcarbine Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Should have clarified the plugs should be gapped .020 Pick up should be gapped at about .015 1 Quote
oldskool Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Keep in mind that if you have an airleak, your going to be chasing a tune on your carbs from now on. I did not see that you performed a leakdown test. Very important. Also need those carbs taken apart and cleaned. They may be fine but you don't know. Need to see what jets you have anyway Quote

Need to see what jets you have anyway I took the carbs off today and cleaned them, I'm actually building a leakdown tester, also I think have a air leak in my stroker plates which I'm going to ditch for some stroker domes (also which cc should I use? I'm at 150 feet and I'm going to be using 93 octane) also I'm holding my main jets and I can't see any numbers on there where are they located? I'm also going to do a compression test because it's really easy to crank over. And where do you recommend me buying some stroker domes? Thanks guys really appreciate it Quote
