northshore Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I have an 03 banshee, fmf pipes, k&n with no lid, cool head, 19cc domes, and +4 timming. and was wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of running no air box. I ride mostly sand, but once in awile i do ride in the dirt and through semi wet conditions. Quote
cdwood37 Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I personally would run k&n clamp ons with outerwears, the outerwears are water proof and you will get better airflow, I think you can get the whole kit for about 100 bucks with the outerwears. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I use k&n pod filters-but i dont ever ride when its wet-and i ride 90% sand there suposed to give a little more power - some people would say otherwize Quote
Hilarious Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I can attest to the fact that the engine breathes better with the pod filters. I would not run them if you run in wet conditions. They also make it way quicker and easier to jet your carbs too. Quote
joker149999 Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 i run with no air box, buti have outerware's and clean my filter's all the time. more air more power Quote
pipebomb Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 running airboxs here. would like to lose them but it tends to get a bit soggy where I ride. and steam crossings are murder on the intake tract without them. what cha gonna do. Quote
Wicked98Shee Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 i run airbox's on both my shee's, i would like to run with clamp-ons and ditch the airbox. but sometimes we have to cross a creek, and the outerwears are not water proof. if they are then why does it let water thru it when ya rinse it after washing it? they do filter the most of the dirt out of the water that get on em, but you still ingest water into your filter and engine. i could be wrong, but i wont risk my engine. sheefreak Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 If you run through any water at all on a normal basis, I would stick w/whatcha got. You get pretty good airflow w/an open box. You aren't going to see enough of a difference on stock carbs by changing to pods to outway your quad bogging down and running like shit for a minute after every puddle you hit. Quote
MILO Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 (edited) pd foam filters - no lid. we hit some water and creek crossings time to time, but nothing over the box. haven't had any problems yet with no lid. just clean it frequently. usually just the outer filter is dirty, the inner one is usually good. ogre03 Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I run toomey's 2-1 and I ride all kinds of conditions with no problems. Granted I don't cross deep water (at least not deep enough to get up to my filter). I'm happy with it though. It's more up and out of the way than the clamp on (pod) filters. Quote
mnduner Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 everyone whos got a trinity and pod filter what are u running. i checked k&n and have read that some people run them with a 20" angle and some run strait filters. what length filter are you using? and with or without angle Quote
