ghostryder420 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I wanna know what any of you have found as a disadvantage of T5's. What, if anything, is bad about this pipe or that you would change if you could. thanks for any advice. Quote
Turbobanshee_kid Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Great all around pipes! Quote
odaen Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I wanna know what any of you have found as a disadvantage of T5's. What, if anything, is bad about this pipe or that you would change if you could. thanks for any advice. 469463 performance-wise, they are very solid for their application. the only complaints I had about them were the loudness and the routing of the stingers. If you run an airbox, the stingers will hit the box or the plastic beneath the seat 90% of the time. if you run K&N pods, they'll burn the outerwears. only reason I care about the loudness, is they are starting to crack down on sound levels at the dunes. Too Many Toys Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 The T5's are kick ass pipe all around. No complaints here. I just needed more top end so I went to CPI's. Loved my T5's though. Quote
knight_ripper Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Whats that....CPI's give more TOP? how is the lower end on the CPI's? I got Toomey's. And since I have never ran anything else its hard to say. My shee kicks ass, and I got no complaints. In fact, I have a few good things to say. I love the sound, they are very distinctive, and loud. but hes right, with them cracking down on 2 strokes, decible level could be a problem. Knock on wood, but I have never been tested so, I dont know what my decible level is. I do know that when I put on the sparky's they tend to quiet down a bit. I had one of their pipes crack a mount...the forward mount by the gas tank. they said send it to us and we will take care of it. A week later I had a new PIPE. Toomey rocks in that realm. Quote
ghostryder420 Posted February 6, 2006 Author Report Posted February 6, 2006 thanks for the replies guys, how is the low end power of the t5's? i know they arent made for low end, but am i gonna have a hard time on slower trails if im not goin fast? i have a pro design air filter and no other mods yet, but a 13 tooth sprocket on the way, which should help in that respect. also, if the stingers hit my airbox, is it gonna melt the plastic or anything? thanks Quote
Too Many Toys Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Ghost Rider: I think you could still trail ride with some T5's. You may have to change your riding still a bit. I really liked the T5's. I never ran the T5's with an airbox so i don't know about your other question. Knight Ripper: CPI's are an in frame drag pipe. They pull alot harder on the top end than the toomeys. Quote
odaen Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 also, if the stingers hit my airbox, is it gonna melt the plastic or anything? any plastic that the stingers touch will melt. you can wrap the stingers or buy some aftermarket heat wraps from Cascade Innovations for $30 Quote
sheefreak Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 FMF Fatty's are an alternative if you would like choices. I have seen dyno charts on both pipes on same bike and power curve and peak are almost identicle. The Toomey's are my favorite soundwise, but the Fatty's sound tuff too, just not as loud. Quote
1.6i Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I love my T5's...great for trails and dunes...with the right jetting that is... Quote
knight_ripper Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 i thought I read on here somewhere that the FMF's were better on the bottom than toomeys. better for trails or somethin. I gotta work my tail off with my toomey's. but they are awesome. Quote
banshee tuner Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I love my T5's: the sound, look, and performance. I never had a problem with mine touching the air box. Once I went to k&n pods the only thing that bothered my filters was the airbox mounts so I cut them off. Quote

Once I went to k&n pods the only thing that bothered my filters was the airbox mounts so I cut them off. 469552 don't get me wrong, I loved mine too on both bikes. both bikes, the stingers hit the outerwears, so I just zip-tied them together and it provided enough clearance. The stingers hit the airbox on one of them and burned a couple nice holes. I've seen quite a few shees with T5's with the plastics melted right under the seat. Normally, you can rig something up to clear everything, but seems as though you could improve on the routing some. Quote
Bansh88 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I have FMF SSTs on my '02. I have about 5 different problems with them. All of which I DO NOT have with my T5s on my '06. Quote
Too Many Toys Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Just wrap your pipes with normal header wrap from autozone and you'll be in good shape. They can rest right against the airbox and not melt it. Quote
