jjfizzle51 Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 hey all i need an impact wrench for little thing here and there not a real top of the line one but one that works what do you guys think about this one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=90798 and is that enough torqe/volts to take off a flywheel and put it back on thanks for any help Quote
eehsnab2 Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I call harbor freight tools "throw away tools" because after you use them once... they are probably worn out. Some tools are probably alright for certain things but I wouldnt trust this one to snug up my wheels nuts or flywheel... There's an old saying "you get what you pay for." A good alternative to that one is a Ryobi impact gun that isnt that much more that you can get at just about any Home Depot or Lowes.... I use mine out in the dunes when my compressor isnt convienent to lug around. Quote
watkins Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Heres what I have. I love the thing, you can hot charge it, use it hot. Has a battery gauge too. Great product & its 28V. Only downside is the cost, but its worth it. http://www.milwaukeeconnect.com/webapp/wcs...rentProd=281126 Quote
jjfizzle51 Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 alright cool come to think of it im only going to need it once well twice for re-intstal so ill rent im guessing probly 10 bucks for rent so 20 bucks instead of 100 and up but thanks for all the help Quote
pimpeinkc Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 but a tank and impact,,, bout 100 is all i have in mine and works great, also the cordless is nice when on the road,, but i have not got that far yet.. Quote
wesw Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 i bought a 1/2 drive electric cordless one. pepboys and napa sell them. works great for small stuff. have liks 225ft-lbs of power will do a lot. 60 bucks is what i paid for mine Quote
Wallrat Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) I bought this one from harbor freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=31877 ) about the same time that I got my shee. That was something like 2.5 years ago now and I've used it hundreds of times - from wheel lug nuts, suspension parts, and plenty of work on the banshee. I'd say I easily got $50 out of it, but I bought it when it was on sale for $35. Talk to the guys at harbor freight, the guy at my local shop just gives me rainchecks on the spot for the sale price of stuff so I don't have to wait for the sale of that particular item. While harbor freight stuff is somewhat disposable, for the price you can't beat em for stuff you only need on occassion. I'd chose that one over the cordless if I was you since electric impacts tend to suck juice and I doubt those harbor freight batteries are any good. Edited January 5, 2006 by Wallrat Quote
RNBRAD Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I use some Harborfreight air tools. I bought a central pnuematic die grinder from them for like 7 dollars on sale. I was so skeptical at the price I bought a good chicago unit as a back-up for 80 dollars. These units were identical in design, weight and performance and have yet to ever need the chicago unit. I've had the central pnuematic diegrnder for a few years now and have worked the living piss out of it. I did the same thing with their impacts, and I swear their 25 dollar impact is stronger than my 100 dollar unit and it is made just as well. Quote
eehsnab2 Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I agree with that... sometimes you get good tools sometimes they are crap. Best thing about them though is that if they are crap your only out a few bucks. Quote
iceman Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 i buy all my tools at pep boys. the perfomance tools have lifetime warranties and theyre cheeeeaaaaap. i got my grinder from them for $30 and it works just as well as my dads $120 one. it may break soon but its got a lifetime warranty. plus it was only 30 bucks. Leadfoot350 Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 harbor freight takes back broken shit too. They dont even ask questions. I have done it 3 times. Ya and when you buy something there ask them if it ever goes on sale and they will usually give you a rain check for right then to get the big discount. Its like the employees give away the stuff. BakoBanshee Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) I just picked up a 21 gallon vertical air compressor for $169.99 and a $17.99 impact driver from Harbor Freight and they worked well for me taking off and putting back on the flywheel and clutch basket nuts.
