I kick for days and my banshee will not start. In order to start it i have to get it pulled everytime and it seems i have to pull it further and longer everytime. After its warmed up it runs and kick starts fine.

I looked in a manual i have for solutions and it says it could be a fuel issue, compression issue, electrical issue, and or a spark plug issue. I checked my compression, 118 and 120 at sea level, and the plugs have a spark. So i've deduced that its either a fuel or electrical issue.

I believe it could be the cdi magneto, ignition coil, or something with the carbs. I've read some of the threads and am now starting to doubt its a magneto problem if i read correctly; if the plugs have a spark then the magneto must be okay? If not please clarify what the magneto does and if bad, is it enough to cause it not to kick start cold. I also have yet to clean the carbs to see if that helps cause i dont want to waste time if it doesnt sound like its the problem.

So this is where i am. I dont want to take it to a shop and end up spending the same amount fixing it, as ill eventually be selling it for. I just want to get it starting reliablly so i can sell it. So if anyone could help with a cause or solution to my problem, i'd appreciate it.

the problem could be in your carbs. have you checked the ait filter? are you using the choke? could be your jetting. if you get spark it doesnt sound like its the magneto. depending on your mods you may be low on compression.

Unfortuneatley you can't count the stator out just because you have spark. It may even look like good spark. I have seen this exact case several times and it end up being the stator going bad. Check all the easy stuff first; spark plugs, filter, getting gas, clean carbs, etc. If everything checks out, I would first borrow a stator if possible to see if that is your problem. Another thing you might check is to make sure your float bowls are not swapped around, if you do not have the correct bowls on the correct carb, your choke won't work properly. Good luck!

also what octane gas are you running? too high will cause it to start hard when cold..new plugs? too rich on the jetting?? does it run perfect after its running or does it not have the top end that it once had..or chokes up?? good luck

When I've had problems with cold starts, the pilot jets have either been plugged, or too lean. Air mixture screws may need to be adjusted in also. If it's a carb issue, then I think you are too lean. If it's been setting for awhile, you might have some varnish in your carbs, that's plugging something up. Clean the carbs and adjust them, and eliminate the fuel issue, before tearing into something else. It's a fairly quick and cheap fix, plus it's not very hard.

i'd try that before diving into the more complicated stuff, also make sure the crossover tube between the carbs is on. B)

Dang you both beat me to it. You can check the resistance on the stator to more or less determine if your problem lies here. I don't have my Clymer's in front of me, but I'm pretty certain it covers the resistance figures in there. Or if you have an honest stealership in the area they will usually test it for free. I had to do that once when I had a stator take a crap on me at the dunes, and I didn't have my multimeter with me. They're usually glad to do it, because they figure they might sell you a stator out of it. Also, everyone else has hit the major things to check.

I had a similar problem, was hard as hell to start. After cleaning the carbs and new plugs the problem was still there. I wound up adjusting my air/fuel mixture screws and making sure both carbs were in sync. after that my shee went back to starting on the first or second kick

i had an after marcket cdi that went bad on me and it would take 50 to 100 kicks when engian was warm or cold put stock back on and started up 2nd kick every time. or your slide could be stuck if u have the safty device still hocked up it wont run had that happen to me before to. good luck
