I just wanted to know what carbs would be good. I basically trail ride, some sand pits and some roads thanks for your help inadvance Quote
rocketboy Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 the 30mm oko carbs from carb parts warehouse work really good IMO ,these are bored out Kehin 28pwk knockoffs .they have genuine keihin circuitry,have lots of hoses,clamps, jets and extras.they can be purchased on ebay for 185$ . I'm not sure how big a plate would yield 28mm or even 30mm worth of carbs. Regardless of the amount however...them's some good eats! 1 Quote

RNBRAD Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 I would go with the Kehin PWK carbs though the mikuni's will work. The keihin's are a little more advanced in their design. Like others have said, I wouldn't go less than some 30mm. The Keihin PWK's have a "D" slide v/s a flat or round that will reduce the turbulence of air flow through the carb and provide you with the best possible throttle response v/s the other two. I would choose the flatslide over the round though if it was between those two. Quote

odaen Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 for a stock motor, I dunno if I'd put money into carbs, myself. the stockers work better than most people think for even ported motors. I'd save up for some port work myself or keep an eye out for some ported cylinders for sale. Quote
Ducman Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 You can get the stock carbs bored for $50, whala, now you have 28mm carbs! Just make sure they aren't bored so much that the slide doesn't seal against the side of the carb bore. You'd get a much better bang for the buck getting some port work done on your cylinders rather than getting new carbs. Some day if you build a ported stoker or get some mean port work you'll want to go bigger than 28mm anyway. Quote

I would rather spend a few more dollars to get a good pair rather than the knockoff oko's. I was thinking about getting some port work done but, I am going to have to change my carbs. I figure I mines well get bigger carbs and go from there. Does any one think thats how I should do it? or should I get the port work, ride it on my stockers for a few months til I can get the cash to buy some carbs? which would be the best well better way to go about it Quote
odaen Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 you'll get far better performance gain from porting than you would from carbs. i'd get it ported myself. the knockoffs are the same carb as the keihin, and if you buy a keihin, it'll be a 28 and you'll have to pay to get it bored to 30. On top of that, they're almost $100 cheaper. Quote

RBD Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 The stock 26 mm Banshee carbs should not be bored to 28 MM as the slide it self is only 27.5 mm in diameter. If you had after market Mikuni 26 mm carbs they can be bored to 28 mm as the slide is 30 mm in diameter. You can oval bore the stock 26 mm carbs to 28 mm (this makes the bore 26 mm wide and 28 mm tall) I do this all of the time with great results. The carbs will flow with in 1 cfm of the Keihin 28 mm "D" slide carbs and will flow more than the Keihin's at 2/3 throttle opening. The stock (genuine) 28 mm Keihin carbs should not be bored any larger than 29 mm as the slide is only 30 mm wide. Yes there are a lot of people that will bore the stock carbs bigger than the slide, but they are only looking for and using the top end and don't care if it idles or runs well off the bottom.
