Lethaface Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 (edited) You need a flywheel puller to get it off..you can get one on ebay for around $15..You might be able to go up to a local shop and ask to use there puller for a hour or 2.. Edited December 17, 2005 by Lethaface Quote
northshore Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 you need to get a puller, you can get it from a local dealer, or off the internet, there like $10 i think, but to get the nut off, you either have to use an impact wrench or get one of those strap wrench's to hold the flywheel while you spin the nut. Animalman294 Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 You definately need the puller, and make sure that it is screwed all the way in or you may rip the threads out. What I did was use the tube that you use for the spark plug to remove or put it in. I put the foot peg back on and rotated the flywheel until the little square balance plate that is on the outside of the wheel was above the peg. I then put the spark plug tool between the little plate and the peg, so that when you put pressure on the flywheel puller the plug tool was held in place and the nut spun right off. To tighten it you have to put the plug tool below the peg and use the same little balancing plate that is welded to the outside of the flywheel. This worked for me hope it helps.......... Quote

locogato11283 Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 thanks alot,,I have a puller I was just wondering about the nut,,I will give the strap a try Appreciate the help 449175[/snapback] do u have the correct puller or just a jaws style puller? you DO NOT want to use a jaws style puller as you can fuck up the flywheel. only use the one that threads into the center of the flywheel. DemonShee Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Had the same problem last week. once you get the nut off spray some penetrating lube on the inside of the flwheel in the area where the nut was. It may take 2-3 good hitts with your impact before it pops off. You may also want to leave the pressure on the puller and tap the flywheel with a hammer to halp lodge it loose. Quote
mxturd Posted December 18, 2005 Author Report Posted December 18, 2005 my puller is the jaws type I think,,,,but it does screw into the center,,is this wrong? Quote
northshore Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 you dont want to use the jaw type, you need one that screws in the center, then you hold it well you screw a stud down, and then boom it comes off! Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 I would not use the little pads on the out side of the flywheel to hold the flywheel still while losing it, those pads are the triggers to tell the coil when to fire, you f them up and you better be lookin for a new flywheel or your bike will run like poop! GYTWYPT Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 NO JAWS you risk warping you flywheel. Just do a search on ebay for banshee flywheel puller and you will see what they look like. and if you need to use penetrating oil then you need to trash that piece of crap impact and get a good one.
