For those of you who use this or know much about it, it asks you about your gear ratio if you have had them swaped out, I still have stock gears but if I change it in the programmer that i have like 4:11 or something would it run like it had 4:11 gears?

only way to actually change the gear ratio is by changing your gears in your differentials. im asuming you wanna change the gear ration to compensate forthe bigger tires...you need to call somewhere who sells that shit and get prices on it. its not cheap and if you cant install yourself its really gonnaget expensive.

high price for gear, that aint no shit. my dad's got to get a new set for his 77 Ford 3/4-ton in the rear end and they're like $600

Junkyard Hunt! My jeep came with Dana 30 front and a Chrysler 8.25 rear. I found two Dana 44's in a junk yard. Rebuilt both for around $200 and run them on the Heep now. They both had 4:10 gears too. Yay!

The hypertech will only correct your spedo if you are runniing a different tire size or rear dif ratio than stock. The only thing it can physically change about your transmission and how it drives is the shift firmness.

your running 38's on stock gearing?????? :o:whoa:

I'd regear that thing SOON, or put some smaller tires back on it till you can regear...Your tranny has to be hating life right now!!

Not to mention i'll bet she's a dog off the line.... :flush:

NO SHIT!!!!! Who sold you 38's and said you could run stock gears?! I canged gears just to go to 33's.

I have the programmer also. You tell it what gears you have, so it can adjust the computer to run with other than stock gearing.

With 38s, you need more than 4:10. You need at least 4:56. I don't even know whats past that. I know you need 4:56 for 35's

I put 38's on it, It doesnt need gears for performance so it seems i guess just for the life of my tahoe, im going 42's within the next month or whenever the tire gets bald enough.

4:56 is the largest i can go because its a 1/2ton.

And in my programmer the biggest tire size it offers is 34''

I run 37" rubber on stock gearing. I have 3.73's and a Powerstroke though. But I tow frequently, heavy loads, all that stuff, and it's a Ford. :P I have no problems. Anyways, you're going to have alot of problems with the Tahoe down the road on 42's. Hubs, ball joints, tie rod ends. All that stuff. It isn't large enough to handle the shear loads on it. Every few months you'll be replacing front end components. Not to mention the gearing. 4:56's will bring you back to around stock RPM ranges provided you start out with around a 3:55 or so, stock. You are still turning a much larger load however. 42's are alot of weight. Also, bear in mind that your rear end will suffer as well. Beware of the C-clip coming off and spitting an axle, which will flat out ruin your day, if not someone else's as well. Be very careful with it. 1/2 ton equipment and big lifts aren't meant to be....
