hi. im gonna do a top-end job soon, and i was wondering, is it worth buying new ones? i mean, the existing ones i have now, which are wiseco from a previous end job, seem to be fine. the reason i ask is coz also some dealers sell the complete kits WITHOUT the bearings for 20$ cheaper or somethin like that. i know i should do it all right the first time when opening the shee up, and i try and do that. but this area im not sure about. has anyone used the OLD bearings with new pistons and had any problems ??

Buy a kit with the bearings. It would cost you around 20 bucks for a set anyway. If you understand what kind of load those bearings withstand you would be replacing them like you should, no need to ask.

Think of it this way... would you wear someones used rubber to do your own girlfriend?

I have reused the wrist pin bearings before, and I am sure other people on BHQ reused them to, with no problems. But it would suck to put it back together and have a bearing failure

i reused them when i put new pistons in my 2003, keep in mind it didnt have many hours on it anyway and was in perfect mechanical condition.

risking a motor over a $20 pair of bearings??????????????????

At least risking jugs, head, and possibly crank.

Hmmmmmmm lets think about that one.

Easy for us to say cuz we are not on the wallet end of this deal but its really really a no-brainer....REPLACE THEM!

When in doubt, get the credit card out!

If you cant afford a $20 pair of bearings now i am sure you wont be ablet to afford to rebuild the topend again later, and if you cant afford $20 bearings you probably cant afford to even go riding anyway.

I am sure some people reuse them but i always replace em.
