kotin6 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 sent cylinders to Jim yesterday. cant wait to get back home and put it all back together Quote
cam2 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 ouch. actually all you have to do is buff the top of the piston and you should be good to go. J/K Quote
JArmShee Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Damn. Do you have a good story to go with that? Quote
racer Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 toasty. look at how the ex side of the piston is gone, you had some smokin EGT's. Quote
Nighty Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 2 me this looks more like the ring cought the exhaust port and cracked a piece or the crown off. that could explain the rattle you heared before. Quote
kotin6 Posted April 21, 2005 Author Report Posted April 21, 2005 Yea its shitty but I had a good time untill it gave and since I had to get in there anyway my wife was cool with spending the port money. Quote
dune_girl Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 (edited) from looking at the picture it looks as if you were running your bike to lean... If it was detonation the piston would have "holed more towards the center of the piston" before the edge of the piston melted or broke off....Its possible that it could have been caused by an air leak but for both sides to have an air leak at the same time is unlikely...unless the head was not torqued down. If the head wasn't torqued down the pistons would have seized from lack of lubrication from coolant washing off any oil on the cylinder and piston.... Edited April 21, 2005 by dune_girl Quote
theeechozen1 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 My bike detonated and did not get "holed"....the pistons started to come apart on the exaust port side. Quote

FORMULASPEED Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Its a Namura power piston isnt it? Quote
y2kbanshee9187 Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I dont see whats wrong with it Quote
racer Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 detonation is caused by running lean 358487[/snapback] can also be caused by lack of proper octane rating. Quote

kotin6 Posted April 22, 2005 Author Report Posted April 22, 2005 my best guess is the fact that I run like 80mph on a consistant basis, I do all street riding and drive it to work and shit. Just wasnt set up for that. Quote
sheefreak Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I agree w/dune girl, sdd, and just about everyone. You were lean. Those little pits you see in the top of the piston are from hot chunks of piston. Head probably looks the same. But you get to get a nice expensive port job out of it, so what the hell. Quote
